Well done, Cork might play these lads in the cup final. The senior team could learn a thing or two from them.

We have some great talent in our underage set-up

Artem Dzyuba: "Dundalk uses the British style, likes to play long balls, likes to fight and feels confident in the martial arts."

They don't appear to have bothered even watching Dundalk.

They'd broadcast a documentary reminiscing about it if it was underage rugby.

Should have been 2 or 3 up at half time.
Pen got us through in the end, but we should have been out of sight by then.
Smashing game, two teams with a great attitude, plenty of skill and, indeed, physical bravery.
Kudos to the ref as well, contributed to a free-flowing game.

Very enjoyble night out.

Great stuff for Cork.

How do they fund that though? Is there prize money for this? (Or did I ask before?)

I know Cork are the ones to beat at underage level these days, but have to imagine if we can start qualifying regularly for this, that UCD will get in one year. :)

XI –
Financial Provisions
Article 47 Financial rules up to the quarter-finals
47.01
The home club retains its revenue (revenue from ticket sales, refreshments,
concessions, etc.) and pays all match organisation costs (rental of match stadium,

arrangements, if applicable, installations for the TV production, etc.). However,
UEFA may reimburse some of the additional costs of televised matches.
47.02
The home club assumes the costs of local transport for the visiting club from their
arrival in the city where the match is played until their departure, unless agreed
otherwise by the clubs.
47.03
The travel and accommodation costs of the visiting team’s delegation will be
borne by UEFA on the basis of the reimbursement policy communicated by UEFA
at the start of the season. The difference between UEFA’s contribution and the
actual travel and accommodation costs will be borne by the visiting club.

I'd say your u17s will qualify regularly alright. Once they've become Dundalk u19s.

Chiedozie Ogbene's played a few times coming off the bench and is a regular member of the senior squad, Conor McCarthy started against Shams back in June and I think played in a couple of cup games, I think Cian Coleman has a few appearances too. Other than that they'd all have featured over the Summer friendlies against Fulham, Wolves and Oman.

Oops, just noticed mentioned above. Great to see they're being taken notice of beyond the Pale.

I think what last nights result showed is that its possible for Irish under age players to compete & win in Europe without the need to export them to the Uk & elsewhere as children.
There's an opportunity here for every League of Ireland club to do what City did last night. It would be great to see LOI under age teams do this regularly in Europe.
It also shows school children than if you want to play in European club competitions then the best way is to stay at home & do your football education here.
Its also a big poke in the eye of our much vaunted schoolboy academies & a certain Mr Sadlier who feel that a LOI club aren't capable of providing a football education for our young players.

There's a wonderful opportunity here for the FAI to throw everything they have into the under age system with LOI clubs & stop the exporting of our school children out of the country.Yes football stars have been produced through sending our children through the Uk system but what is the ratio of stars to the amount sent ?
1 in 100 or 1 in 1000 ? Who knows.
All we hear about are the odd one or two who make it but nothing at all about the hundreds of young players returning with their dreams & often their bodies shattered as well.

I'm sure that among the large crowd at Turners Cross last night there were a big group of scouts representing various UK clubs wondering what they had missed.

Well done to everyone at Cork City for doing the League of Ireland & Irish football proud last night

it has never been in doubt that up to 18/19 Ireland can produce as many talented footballers as every other country our size.

The issue is what happens to them then. Most other countries do OK. We don't really. The only difference is a truly professional league.

But everytime you point that out, you get called a LOI zealot...

Good luck to Dundalk again tonight - its weird refreshing livescore every 30 seconds on a Monday night - looking for a Longford goal - to 3 days later putting the LOI hat on again but i hope ye do well again tonight.

Obviously any monies gained at this point should be put to a central pot to promote the league as a whole, as I don't think Dundalk have the admin staff to manage any extra future monies effectively at this stage.

UCD should get 20% of all Dundalk's European money to be honest.

Seems only fair.

Zenit haven't had a shot yet to tax the goalie, I think they'll be happy enough with a point, despite their sparse possession. Dundalk have engineered the best goal chances so far.
