It's only half time in this game Charlie, way too early to say I told you so :)
From the LOI, only Dundalk could give FH a game and I said it would be 50/50, it still is but I expect FH to shade it.
Unlike some others here, I won't use my wild imagination to figure out what actually happened at Oriel pk and attempt to make knowledgeable sounding statements about teams like FH and what transpired at the game.
That would define the essence of conceit.
Just how does anyone tolerate that idiot of a co-commentator on Dundalk fm, to say he knows nothing would be a complement, absolute nonsense is his speciality and he delivers it non-stop.
Dundalk FM is great craic

Don't know how to judge that match. Dundalk were poor so many lads had off nights but were the better side.
Horgan, Massey, Boyle, Gannon, O'Donnell, Finn all guilty of indecision
I thought we would of seen more from FH. I think they are shaky at the back and their keeper is weak under crosses.
I think we will score over there. It's not over by a long shot

A strangely dissatisfying match.
Agree with Jinxy that so many Dundalk players were well below normal standard. It is doubly frustrating that it was clear that they were still the better team on the night and should have taken a lead into the 2nd leg. FH deserve credit for how they closed down Dundalk, especially in the 2nd half.
The tie is far from done and the 2nd leg has the potential to be a fascinating tie. FH will face a dilemma in how to approach the game, while Dundalk are well capable of winning away - I just hope the sloppy goal conceded does not come back to haunt

Same old failings, lads work their socks off for the whole game, and one players sloppiness punishes the whole team. Until this kinda stuff is eradicated there will never be consistent progression. The odd good result here and there and that's it.
WTF prompted you to write this BS?
Ya but these teams are always happy to just sit back away from home and then go for it and win it in the second leg at home.
You can never really judge these teams on the away first leg.
Nevertheless, you seem to have made loads of judgements

I listened to the match and paid heed to the commentators and thats what I gleaned. They were the ones saying it was a sloppy mistake a careless goal to give away. It seems like Dundalk played well enough without creating many clear cut chances.
No judgements just going on experience of how these teams operate away from home first. Always seems a completely different proposition in the return home leg. I am not saying anything outlandish or way off the mark here.

An individual mistake from Paddy Barrett*

From my pov Paul it was a litany or errors starting with horgan not clearing then Masseys clearance not making touch then o donnell and Barrett dithering over a clearance and lennon popping it in the back of the net.
Criminal goal to give away at that level.
I'd a feeling we all knew it was going to happen

Jinxy, I'd always take the opinio of someone at the game than someone listening to, or watching on tv. That's fair enough, the lads on DunDaaaaaaawwwwwwlk Fm made out it was more an individual mistake. I like Kenny, I think he deserves his break, he has been there or there abouts for years, some great performances like PSG, BATE, IFK etc. He was upbeat this morning.
TOD was saying that the game had a potential 1.2mil riding on it, was that total money if they got through this tie, and then had the next round, and/or dropping to Europa, or needing to win the next round? He also I thought wrongly stated group stages prematurely by winning the next one.

1.2m minimum if they beat FH and lose the next two rounds.
If they beat FH and win the 3rd qualfying round, they are guaranteed a place in the Europa League group stages, as 4th Q round losers get an automatic spot in the Europa League proper

Cheers the 1.2 mil I was unsure of, but is that to lose in CL 3rd round and then lose in Europa league play-off round? What if the progression to the final round of the CL, how much is that worth? Its probably better not to question these things at this stage..:)
Ya I am aware of the stages, and losers in the 3rd I think go into the last round, "A total of 44 teams are expected to play in the play-off round: the 29 winners of the third qualifying round, and the 15 losers of the 2016–17 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round."
But Tony didn't put it like that, or maybe I picked him up wrong. I think he meant Europa Group stages but said it like the CL Group stages.

That game reminded me a bit of the Derry 1-1 game in Oriel early season, tentative looking but obviously a better team just not playing well, waiting for things to 'click'. That early season feeling of being a good side but just not putting it together for 90 minutes. Chances missed and then punished by a clanger, caused by a few players - miss-kick, players getting in each others way, some of the uncertainty evident v Longford that was hoped to be a one off. I think FH themselves gave us a plenty of respect with spoiling tactics and time wasting from early on, for a team said to be comfortable on the ball or "elegant". If we had been in top form I believe this tie would be just about done. Their defense looked like they had a clanger in them also, especially their No. 20. If they dont have that much more in them for their home leg, and we play anything near last years away leg performance we we should be going through. Their dilemma on whether to sit deep and hit on the break defending the away goal could actually suit us as especially if they are anyway as cagey we were. It's important but there was almost a total obsession on not conceding the away goal rather than just going out and treating the game as much like a domestic game as possible. The crowd was quite flat too with the edginess all over the ground. I may well rue saying this after the away leg but on what was on offer last night from FH, Cork are a better side too.
I realised last night why I prefer standing areas at games with the ability to move to another spot - I had the really irritating experience of being sat just in front of a individual who must have been randomly picking things to say out of the 'things to shout at football matches for dummies' reference book (and with that faux english like twang) " bury ih (sic)" about a 1000 times even when in our own half, "ah get up for it" when the ball was on the deck, "get rid of it" practically every single time a Dundalk player was on the ball, "ah let him know you're there over and over....then there was the shout for handball at a throw in...for Dundalk, no exaggeration!! He didnt seem to be that beered up or anything, just genuinely not a chap that must go to too many games or even watch a match on TV one thing for sure is that he was like a human tannoy and directly in to my earhole. One guy asked him to pipe down probably out of sympathy. As for people standing in seated areas, if you are at the rear of the seating area, or where everyone stands like in the shed ok, but when in the front few rows to keep standing and stay standing with repeated requests by people behind to sit down or move is just ignorant. I got my ticket quite late so was in among the few stragglers like myself and then a lot of people who wouldn't be in Oriel that often i'd say but I wont be slow aagain in getting my ticket. I bought a stand season ticket this year for the first time rather than the ground so maybe I'm just getting to that age.....

First Qualifying Round: €200,000

Third Qualifying Round: €400,000

Quarter-finals: €6,000,000
Semi-finals: €7,000,000
Losing finalist: €10,500,000
Winning the Final: €15,000,000
Going out in Q3 and dropping to EL then
Play-off round elimination: €230,000
Base fee for group stage: €2,400,000
Group match victory: €360,000
Group match draw: €120,000
Group winners: €500,000
Group runners-up: €250,000
Round of 32: €500,000
Round of 16: €750,000
Quarter-finals: €1,000,000
Semi-finals: €1,500,000
Losing finalist: €3,500,000
Winners: €6,500,000
Looking at the EL figures there again and with the prize money on offer you can see why English clubs in particular treat it like the League Cup and are only bothered at last 4 or 8 point. 3.5million fr an EPL club that goes out at round of 32 is small change considering the transfer fees paid with wages to get in to top 5. In particular for a club with the revenue than can be generated by a Manchester United - might just cover the cleaners bill at Old Trafford.

Would worry about that myself. Decent standard over there. We lost 5-1 away to Shakhtyor Soligorsk couple of years ago, was very comfortable for them.

What time did this start? 4.30?
An away draw would be a great result.
Are they in pre-season? Because they've reached the group stages twice before I think, so you'd expect a gulf in class, hopefully its not one Pats rue.

Good result for Pats, at least they have given themselves a chance of progression despite the negative vibe most people (including myself!) had about them. The fact that Dinamo are seeded for tomorrow's draw means Pats may get a decent draw (for 3rd Qualifying round standards) if they can finish it off next week.
