To be in with a chance in the return leg would be brilliant. I can see a difficult night for us tonight and it would take a massive performance for us to get something to bring back to the cross next week.

Seem to be missing a couple at the back due to injury and a Transfer to PL.They are not back in season yet and scrapped through last week on penos, when 2 up from 1st leg. City on a fine run of form and don't concede a lot. If there was ever a right time to play Genk away, tonight is it. Good Luck and maybe there'll be something to play for at a packed Turners X.

Best of luck to Cork tonight, going to be a very tough game, but they have a well organised defence, so you never know they might take them back with the tie still alive. For that they probably will need to score, can't see them getting more than one or two decent chances though.

They will need to be switched on right at the start, these guys will be looking for gaps all over the park.

I hate to cheer on our closest rivals in the last few years but Good Luck Cork!

No. They started in the 2nd round just like last year. The 1st round is for the minnow countries like Gibraltar, San Marino etc. (which we aren't too far off being ourselves)

if that is so how come Dundalk have to play in Tallaght if the sides are in the exact same round as last year?

Martinho II
28/07/2016, 4:33 PM
They got a bye in both years. Have you forgotten about the Iceland games already Marty :)

blame the old brain cells dodge!

wots the furthest that Cork City have gone in Europe since 1984? For some reason I am thinking 2004 and 2005 but I could be badly wrong!

Because they won the second round in Oriel this year but lost in the second round in Oriel last year.

Obviousley in the late 80s/early 90s there were less teamsin Europe, so any team was deeper into the competition that what you would be nowadays.

If you are asking, whats the most number of rounds won, then this year equals 2004 and 2005.

2004 intertoto: Beat malmo and nijmegen. Lost to nantes.

2005 UEFA Cup: Beat Ekranas and djurgardens. Lost to slavia Prague.

Don't ask me how deep we were in either comp.

In 2006 CL: We beat Apollon Limassol. Lost to Red Star Belgrade. If we had beaten Red Star we would have had AC Milan next round for shot at group stage.

This year: Beat Linfield and hacken. Genk......

Edit: in 2006 there was no dropping into UEFA cup after losing so our adventure ended with defeat to Red Star.

A couple more here: http://www.batmanstream.com/football-live-streaming-video-2016-16.html

Cork doing well. Composed and getting plenty of possession in Genk's half.

There is an away goal in this game for Cork. Genk are good going forward but their defence looks ordinary.

Nice player that Bailey.

He's like Daryl Horgan with a tan.

There's a goal in this for Cork if they can keep their shape and take the chance that will come their way. Genk aren't really up to much.

nigel-harps1954
28/07/2016, 6:49 PM
Genk definitely very ordinary at the back but they're excellent going forward. An away goal would be huge for Cork and they've every chance of getting one, but chasing it could kill the tie.

bennocelt
28/07/2016, 6:55 PM
yeah as everyone said, they are brittle at the back. If Cork get a decent chance they could score.......

White Horse
28/07/2016, 6:57 PM
It could be a tough second half for Bennett and Browne. They've done well , but will they be able to play against the pace of Genk for 90 minutes?

For a team "out of season", Genk look very fit and fast.

Shocking performance by the referee giving everything to genk & hammering cork.

Genk are giving the ball away constantly. Cork have to get an away goal here.

Nothing to fear in the second leg, but I worry, like Dundalk, about the lack of an away goal.
Cork were the better side in the second half though I felt.

White Horse
28/07/2016, 7:52 PM
Cork have a great chance to progress. Genk are muck.

They may regret not getting the away goal, it was there for the taking.

Definitely would've been deserving of a draw had we got it. Such a pity we didn't nick the away goal especially with maguires chance. All to play for at the cross next week, will be packed I'd say. These guys aren't world beaters so definitely in with a shout.

MeathDrog
28/07/2016, 7:57 PM
Cork certainly have more of a shout than Dundalk IMO. Very unlucky not to have gotten a better result.
