For the first time in months, I'm getting a stiffy over all this.
Tapattoni v Venables
I'm not sure if Trap would be the better manager for us despite having a far superior track record. Certain things concern me:
- he doesn't speak English (so I'm told)
- he will 69 in a month
This thread has taken a disturbing turn over the weekend

The Trapottoni story does not add up. He is either using the FAI to get a better contact with Salzburg or is doing a Houllier and not returning calls from the amigos. What happened to the private plane bull****? Malone and his breaking news in the paper of record? Watch the journos turn on the FAI in tomorrows papers.

Wasn't the conference supposed to be at 6:30? Anyone know what was said?

Noely I think it makes sense. Trappatoni has contacted the FAI but the 3 man panel have not all met him yet so they want to meet him before they make their recommendation. They will announce after the meeting that they are not ready to make a decision yet but are further down the process.
They still have to formally interview Trappatoni which also fits into what Givens was saying last week too.

The meeting is at half six. They are still meeting at the moment, they are going to make an announcement after the meeting. Turn on Newstalk.

Your probably right Neil but this process has become the piece of string.

He also said the players will retire if Venables does not get the job and they are going to say it to Givens and the FAI tonight at the awards.
If this is true, and i doubt it, it must show the sheer stupidity of asking the players opinions before the Wales games and also it shows how little some players actually give a **** about that green jersey

i presume there will be an announcement either confirming an appointment or saying that negotiations+interviews are still ongoing before the awards ceremony starts at 8?

Its 90% likely that a manager wont be appointed tonight. Really this process is pure bull****. Supposedly Givens wants more time to interview Trap.

it just shows what a pack of clueless fools that the FAI and the 3 wise men are
NeilMcD
03/02/2008, 6:24 PM
Yeah which is fair enough as the 3 man panel have not met him yet. I would rather wait for Trap than just give it to Venables tonight.

It is rubbish, they will not retire, however I dont doubt that the players would like Venables to be the manager.

Its on Chat soccer, Cathal Dervan said it and T' O D said it on RTE that it is unlikely that a manager will be appointed tonight.

10 more days maximum Statement just made

I reckon it will be Venables, they're playing a dangerous game with him by stringing him along and it could blow up in their faces if Trapattoni is mucking about. they could be left with no-one so I'm saying El Tel to be announced any minute.

03/02/2008, 6:36 PM
10 days. im sick of this!!!!!!!!!

They hardly told the press they'd issue a statement, if they thought they'd just announce a 10 day maximum. Sounds like there's been a hitch with appointing Trapattoni which they for some reason thought they'd be able to unveil tonight as a coup.

Exactly. Something has happened with Trappottoni. Maybe he does not want to be interviewed and wants to be offered the job (which to me is fair enough). Maybe Givens annoyed him when they spoke on the phone. Delaney should be talking to Trapp's not Givens.

Its obvious from tonite that the FAI are doing everything to appoint someone other than Venables. I think we can safe rule him out of the running now. People say what is the rush? Why has it taken so long to send out feelers to Trapattoni, obviously they are scouring the world for someone rather than Venables. They are yet again a disgrace to Irish football with their amateurism.

Trapattoni was in a job, and he has only come into the reckoning this week because he contacted the FAI or the FAI contacted him. Read the Tribune article today about what has happened.

That article also says Houllier stopped returning calls to Givens (head Amigo). I would get Givens out of the loop and let Delaney and his advisors handle this.

Again I ask, why was contact only made this week? John Delaney should be fcuked out of office for this mess. We'll end up with another muppet of a manager, wait and see. The FAI should be appointing a manager not passing the buck.

You're exactly right about getting Givens out of the picture. Trapattoni does not have to answer to Don fecking Givens, his record speaks for itself. Delaney should be in charge of this, and quite simply offer Trap the best deal possible.
If we don't get Trapattoni, the FAI will struggle to save face with the appointment of Venables. It's perfectly clear that he's a last resort now, and how will Delaney/The Amigos be able to say he was the man they wanted all along?

It is appropriate that the Undertones are opening with a song about w*nk ing at the Awards ceremony.

Don Givens, the Chairman of the Selection Panel set up to recruit the next manager of the Republic of Ireland senior international team, tonight met with the Board of Management of the Football Association of Ireland to update them on the process.
He gave the ten Board members a progress report on the work done by himself and the other members of the Selection Panel, Ray Houghton and Don Howe, since he last spoke to the Board.
He indicated that the Panel’s work will be completed within ten days and that an appointment is imminent.
The Board expressed their satisfaction with the progress report.

So basically it's the Italian's to decline it seems. But we'll probably end up with Billy Davies :) as Venables will probably say stuff it.
Trappatoni has a fine CV but he no speka da english, I'm sorry but if the coach can't communicate with the players mano-a-mano then I don't see it working out.
