Rovers did pay a development fee & I thought it was around 30k as he was out of contract, why would an english club be expected to pay 10 times the amount?
Domestic compensation is a fraction of what International transfer compensation is.
If the same level of compensation was used for domestic transfers no one would be able to sign a player who's out of contract !

Maybe international compensation is more than domestic but it is unlikely to be that high, McGinty, Burns & Devoy all left this window for England & the fact their contract was running down a large factor in why the clubs had to sell. If you knew 300k is what you expect at the end of the season, why not hold onto the player?

I think Rovers paid 25 k with max Murphy going thr other way gor around 15k.
Compensation for rovers if Blackpool sign him doesn't arise as it only happens if the player is out of contract and he has 18 months left at least.

Compensation is explained pretty well above, and the below link explains the categories and amount.
https://www.parsalaw.com/fifa-player-transfers
€60,000 per year for every year as a pro (or semi pro) in the Premier Division, €30,000 in the First Division and €10,000 for every season as an underage player.
As regards McGinty, he's 23 next week and players 23 and above aren't subject to compensation.
There's multiple reasons why you'd potentially sell a player below his compensation value.
1. He has a release clause in his contract. Any offers at or above the specified value must be accepted.
2. There's no sell on clauses or add-ons for players who leave for compensation. It was shown with Doherty and Bazunu's transfers how valuable these can be.
A club may be willing to undercut the initial value for a bigger potential fee down the line.
3. There's no guarantee if a player runs down his contract that a foreign club will be willing to sign him for such an amount.
Instead he could end up at a domestic rival for ~€30,000, such as Lyons and Mandroiu.
There's probably other reasons I've not outlined, but it's not as simple as let them wind down their contract and watch the money roll in !

Mark Connolly recalled by Dundee United,Dundalk trying to get him back but that’ll be a big loss if they can’t….
It certainly would! Along with Sheppard he has been one of the stand out players so far this season. There are some positive murmurs doing the rounds, but the only thing that is certain is that news about players in Dundalk should be taken with pinch of salt until the club makes an announcement.

The top 3 teams in league potentially losing their number 1 CB in the last week, an odd quirk that!

Rumoured that he's signing for Derry.
Higgins and Reynolds on a flight to Edinburgh this afternoon too, so adds up.
Anyone else Dundalk like the look of that we could sign?

Surprised at the silence coming out of Rovers, we've loaned Cotter to pats , pico out for a good while is the rumour and you'd have to think if Blackpool come again with a decent offer we'd have to let him go. Still silence on incoming.

Rumour I've heard is connolly has had his head turned by Rovers hence the need for Higgins dashing out to convince him otherwise. And Phoenix Patterson from Waterford is rumoured as well

Robbie McCourt officially confirmed by Dundalk, and Connolly also officially confirmed as not coming back !!!!
Alfie Lewis meant to be signing this week on loan. Runar Hauge also I think.
Real shame about Connolly as he had developed into one of the best in the league, but 'thems the rules' when you enter into loan agreements, and in re-build mode running a tight ship.

surely dundalk could have done better than a sligo sub to replace one of the best defenders in the league?

All about the $$$$, StatSports and Andy Connolly made no bones about it when they took over end of 2021 that DFC would be run as a prudent business. Plus Gartland is still injured, probably in his last season, would imagine first choice pairing will still be Boyle and Bone, but it does feel a little underwhelming at the minute with McCourt whom I have to admit I know little about, just hope we have done enough to finish in the top 3.
Derry will probably announce Connolly later this week and his first game could be in Oriel Park on Fri week !

Comes down to budget. Dundee is looking for a fee (big enough that Dundalk can not afford) apprently.

Oh i can imagine a deal for connolly would have cost more but the thought of paying sligo a fee for robbie mccourt is about as underwhelming as it gets. he'll be on less money that connolly but surely dundalk (and other loi clubs) could look outside the league a bit more. the pool of talent isnt deep enough here , time to look to other leagues around the world for players.

With no hamstrings. Neil Farrugia Mark II.

He doesn’t seem to. I like his pace but when he has time to think his finishing is awful. He is a useful player to have. I think though with Serge coming in , Tunde could be squeezed out and he will never get in ahead of golden boy.

need more wide players with a bit of pace. too many of their midfielders are the same imo. as said above though power doesnt have great injury record, rovers must think its worth the risk. profile of player id go for if i was them tbf but injuries a worry. last thing rovers needed was another 29-30 year old.

Rovers signed Simon Power What is it saying when our champions are signing a player from the 5th tier of English football. He's one of those super quick wingers, a little one dimensional possibly, and like all quicks, a bit injury prone on the hammers. Rovers missing pace out wide, so he might at least be additional in that sense. Best of luck to him, hope it works out for him

I guess we must be working on the theory that either him or farrugia will be fit. We need a centre back to replace pico and cotter...I see Dan cleary has left st johnstone, I assume he is on route to oriel given Connolly isn't coming back. We could do with him if Derry don't get there before us if he isn't Oriel bound

May as leave some teensy bit of excitement in it for the Rovers fans :)
He was fifth tier in 2020/21 (and sixth tier the year before that). Has been two months without a club and I'd suspect he was looking to stay in England but didn't have any good offers. Harrogate gave him a good review when they released (https://www.harrogateadvertiser.co.uk/sport/football/injury-concerns-the-reason-behind-harrogate-towns-decision-to-let-simon-power-go-3692323) him but also flagged his injuries ("We're in a position where we need to be confident that he will be able to start 30-35 games a season, and the way things have gone this year that doesn't seem like it would be feasible at the moment"), which seemed a tad unnecessary.

Can't say I'm over the moon with him coming him but we need pace from wide areas with Danny gone. Maybe Farrugia and Power can just play a half each for the rest of the season....
Cleary coming in is a funny one but at 25 he bridges the gap between our aging seniors and 17-19 year olds who are starting to come on the scene. It's an age group we need a few more at. Will be interesting to see if he displaces Grace on the left side of the back 3.

Delighted if that is true re cleary.
I don't think it's a question of displacing Grace (who is a better player imo) as much as another cb to be one of 3 from hoare, grace, gannon (not really a cb) kavanagh (not really a cb) badly needed, cotter was played left side of a 3 a few times, still surprised he was let out to pats tbh

Yep. First impact was two goals in the 19s final v Galway that got us into the Youth League. Only played 13 first-team games before signing for Norwich - missed a couple of months with injury even then. Great pace and thought he was very similar to Farrugia (who came in the following season) but I think he was a slighter build than Farrugia. Four years in England (and Scotland and Holland) may have changed that.
I'm slightly surprised Rovers have gone for him. Could have seen him coming back to Pat's or Bohs easy enough

Happy to hear we're trying to fill the gap in defence with Pico out.
Think the two fingers thing from Cleary was in regard to him believing Bradley snubbed him when he was on loan with us prior to joining dundalk. We seem determined to recreate the dundalk back 4 it seems...
