Gary Cronin has appointed James Keddy as his no 2 with us. He follows him from Bray Wanderers.

I know all about JK as a player but what is he like as a coach more importantly?
Havent heard his name in years. He was a decent player for Drogs and Bohs a good few years back.

Dont believe Rovers were looking at Murphy, Manus and Pohls already resigned for 2022 (maybe 2023 as well in Pohls case)
Not sure you can really say Dundalk were the second best team in the league on their day last season - they finished sixth for a reason and never launched any sort of European challenge. They took points off Rovers, true, but upping your game in one-off matches won't hack it in the league.
Agreed on league form, plus we spent a fair time in 8th and a few weeks in 9th, so that was pretty abysmal overall, but the 6 wins on the trot at home from Sept at least salvaged some level of respect back.
On Europe, actually that was probably the only brightest part so disagree with you on that, had 2 away wins also, could have been 3 only for Abibi and Sonni in the team (2-2 away to Vitesse in the 3rd round), then a perfectly good goal from Duffy ruled offside after 1 min in Tallaght, small margins.....

Well by European challenge I meant that ye never really looked likely to reach the European spots last season. Even when Sligo were stuttering and ye were getting through a round in Europe, the league form was really poor and it cost ye in the end.

Been reported by more then one LOI journalist regarding Rovers talking with Murphy. No smoke without fire.

Reporters copying each other. Manus is signed and pohls is well thought of, has been resigned as opposed to letting him head back to Germany. Where would Murphy fit in? An expensive number two for manus who has missed no matches in the last two years bar two where pohls was given a run out?? Or to replace a young keeper the club have invested 3 years in?
It's no big deal but it's just not credible.

It was reported that Pohls would go on loan to drogheda as their keeper could be off to england.

Is Pohls any good, good enough to succeed Mannus next year or whenever?
Just on keepers, looks like Dundalk will have a new no 1.

Brian Murphy has officially re-signed for Waterford. Really happy with our business so far. The squads starting to take shape.
Really hoping we manage to hold onto Darragh Power.

Have you been on the Christmas sherry sbgawa?
Pohls was in goal for two games at the backend of last season, and conceded 4 goals. He looked a complete liability.
I'd take Murphy now, nó problem.
Mannus was rumored to be taking up a coaching role in NI, hence the sudden interest in Murphy. Think Alan is staying where he is now so no worries for next year.
Hopefully Bradley & mgmt team are assessing keeper options for 2023.

Don't agree PC and considering he could have been let go at the end of the season and was one of the first signed back the management team obviously rate him.

I'd say it was more like Bradley was after him before Mannus signed back. It's no secret Alan has his career after football planned and he's commuting to Belfast all week.

Not directly related but that reminds me of when we signed a guy in 2008 I think, Nathaniel Weiss, who had been "with a Spanish Third Division club". I don't think anyone realised there were about 400 clubs across the Spanish third tier. And even at that I don't see any evidence that he ever played in it.
He managed to get clubs in the Latvian first tier and in the German fifth and sixth tiers after that. He must have had a good agent as he was chronic in the few games he did play in the First Division.

Maybe I’m reading this wrong but it appears James Brown is going to sign a six month deal with Blackburn. Seems mad to me that he’s effectively going on a six month trial. Surely he’s had offers from other clubs in England for a longer deal.

Waterford confirmed two re-signings this morning.
- Darragh Power
- Tunmise Sobowale
Both played 19s at the club, Sobowale has had a few clubs since he came through the 19s. Sobowale went on loan for the second half of last season, heard no reports on how he done. He can play a couple of positions across the team, guessing he’ll play a big part as a squad player this year. Darragh Power is the big one, took the jump from the 19s and looked really comfortable in the starting team last year, a lot to learn yet but he showed a lot of promise and potential last season. He’ll be one to watch out for.
I’m assuming at this stage every club is in pre-season training?

i had assumed it would have been a better deal than that. 6 months to play for the u23s is poor by any stretch considering they could end up in the PL in which case he'd 100% be let go. SPL or L1 clubs surely would have been better.

"While he will train with the first team, Brown will initially play with the U23s side to build up match fitness, given he hasn’t played since the end of the Premier Division season last November. "
Maybe he's been told he has a chance with the first team when he is fit? Can't see him stepping up to that level to be honest but good luck to him. I suppose the worst thing that could happen is he ends up back here and plenty would take him in 6 months.

I don’t think he’s cut out for full back. A lot of the time his pace makes up for his positioning and he can give away needless free kick in dangerous areas. Darragh Power will likely be our first choice right back

Carrillo comes in with a half decent bit of pedigree too. Most of his career in the Spanish third tier, and the last four years in the Slovakian premier. Played with FC Senica last season, same club as Kris Twardek is after joining Bohs from, as Joey said.
It'll be interesting to see how he adjusts to the LOI, the Donegal weather, and picking up the language, as I understand his English isn't too great.

Interesting that they'll promote their new kits as sustainable and then send Kerr jetting off to Pakistan and back, presumably with Pakistani players in tow.
I suspect the latter will far outweigh the former in terms of impact.

Joking aside, when it comes to sustainability a lot of companies (not just Pat's obviously) are bleating about the great things they're doing and keeping shtum about the bad things they're doing (and flying long-haul is actually up there in terms of the worst things an individual can do for the environment).
Unfortunately any benefit out of making your jersey out of recycled plastic or whatever it was is going to be dwarfed by this, and so while we keep collectively burying our heads in the sand about negative impacts, then climate change will continue apace.
If Pat's are going to pat themselves on the back for sustainability over their jerseys, I think it's worth calling things like them out for this. Bit of balance never hurt.

Now I'm wondering if you were actually being serious, or are you just trying to dig a bigger hole to justify your lame joke.
Are you seriously suggesting that talented young Pakistani soccer players should be denied the opportunity to come to Ireland to develop their career? Do you also apply that to Pakistanis who come here to study medicine? Or to work? Are you saying that flying long-haul can't be justified in any circumstances? Find me any climate change expert who makes that claim - and who hasn't attended any of the annual Climate Change COPs to which climate change activists fly long-haul from all over the world.
pineapple stu
06/01/2022, 3:47 PM
Nope, it's serious. You can read the recent National Geographic issue on sustainability (Oct 21 I think) as a starting point if you want to see flying described as I did (particularly long-haul, because of the way emissions interact in the upper atmosphere - flying has something like twice as much climate change impact per unit of CO2 than other carbon emissions).
Climate change doesn't give a damn about individual rights unfortunately. If you're that worried about their careers, why not look to let the local football league develop rather than undermining the league by taking away any underage talent as soon as they show any potential?

I know that better than most as I have worked professionally on climate change issues. There is no disagreement from me that emissions have to be reduced drastically in aviation just as in road transport, agriculture etc. That doesn’t mean you have no long-haul travel, no more than it means you have no trucks and no cows. People flying from one country to another to further their career or help others further theirs is not the type of travel that anyone wants to prevent. I go back to the question implied in my first post. Are you opposed to Asian medical students coming to Ireland?
