You can't believe that Nesta? There is NO sane reason he'd resign if he was out of contract.

Smoothing things out for St Pats owner and CEO because he doesnt want to burn bridges with those he has built up a rapport with? Maybe the contract included a 'be nice' clause!
That made me smile!

Just curious - if someone's contract had run down why do you think they'd feel it necessary to "resign"?

He could be resigning from the position, and by doing so not taking up the offer of the 2 year extension, for example in this scenario could it be that he was leaving his contract that was due to run down at the end of December or did it expire after cup final?

It will all boil down to the detail, if he signed an extension then yes Pats will be due compensation, if it was only verbal, that's going to be hard to see how anything will be due, but DFC will need to have assurances on either before they can formally announce him.

Devoy signed a new improved contract a few weeks ago

Well i guess its for at least two years then.
Good business, if he continues to improve i cant see him seeing out the contract but it will be for a move across the water for a fee.

Its looking more and more like the issue is to do with some clause in his original contract and how that is activated. I do think that S'OD is acting on the advice of a lawyer which could include the need to state things clearly. Its not the first time there will have been differing interpretations on clauses. Do I think there was a 'be nice' clause, no of course not. Do I think its possible that the path of least resistance is being taken - yes. Swallowing some pride to stop a protracted legal process can do no harm if it helps clear the way to moving on. If it turns out that there was a error made by O'Donnell so be it. Its obviously not a cut and dry set of circumstances. It wouldnt be the way Dundalk do things, with the return of certain people, if they knew their target was still contracted to a club - the club would have been approached formally. Maybe it the easiest way to reconcile everything but there would be no surprises if an agent was the one pulling strings and gave assurances on the contract status etc.

Maybe the mix up is with interpretation. If we had the option to automatically extend his contract and choose to notify him (as id say is normal procedure) then he could interpret it that he verbally agreed to the extension an extension we were legally within our rights to exercise without even consulting him. If anyone has experience in this type of thing then id love to hear their opinion on the matter. I've no clue what we would look for in compensation if we had to pay Drogheda 10K in an amicable negotiation. Is 40-50 in the ballpark I wonder.

Should be a good addition if he can find his form of the early part of last season….

Great signing. Impressed me this season. A real presence on the pitch, which should work really well at a tight ground like in Drogheda.

Some have time to burn that’s gas . I think it’s a must that Pats v Dundalk is the first game of the season.

Be lucky if Oriel survived, the pitch would be an improvement I’d imagine though.

That was filmed in El Paso!

The answer to the original question is no, he hasn’t. That’s why we employ him (still) as a coach, not manager.

Waterford are challenging the validity of clauses in St Pats players contracts and considering a judicial review, with a points deduction possible they could escape relegation, Pats staff and players will use relegation release clauses (exempt from review) so all sorted for Dundalk and then its just Bohs between Dundalk and Europe....as far as some of the rumours go this would be one of the more realistic ones!!!

Great bit of business for Harps. He's been excellent two seasons in a row and will certainly have had offers from elsewhere.

We're certain to lose a few bodies but keeping the majority of last season's squad and building on it going into 2022 is important if we're to compete with a lot of sides spending a lot more than we are capable of.

What clauses would these be ? And what is the Judicial a review based on ? Or is this just happening in your head ?

Well its made up, but what isnt funny is how almost anything can be said, believed, joins the rumour mill, and becomes 'factual' - all from a reliable source of course! If if it had been less (or even more) outrageous and Id stuck 'fact' at the end it would have undoubtedly ended up on someone's twitter.

But it is LoI and it is a mash up of real different LoI events in to one so maybe any confusion is par for the course and probably shouldnt over roll the eyes.

Dylan Grimes to Drogheda. Very happy with that. Stood out for Longford last season. Bring Dervin along with you and a few resignings and we should have a decent chance of staying up. All we can really ask for as looking like 7 of 10 teams going full time next season.

Good luck to him, good player. In other news, Gary Cronin confirmed as Town manager. A more realistic appointment than Vinny Perth ever was anyway. He knows the club well anyway from all his years as a coach.

I thought after the slight fanfare of Longford publicly seeking open applications for the job that someone different who's not an ex-player would have got the role. Three attempts at promotion with Bray with good squads without any promotion not sure what upgrade this is from Daire Doyle

I don't disagree, not too excited about it either. Can't help but think he wasn't who they were waiting for these last few weeks. Then again I expect there's not going to be a lot of money available for a budget so there probably wasn't a huge demand for the job.
