That’s also what I heard from a Bohs source, who I would trust as well placed to know. I’d have no hesitation in banning the Oriel/Brandywell type pitches, though I understand the financial motive for clubs going that route. They seem to be becoming prevalent up North as well.

There's no financial incentive to Derry City FC in having the artificial surface. Shortly after it was laid, Conal Byrne said it was the best surface he's played on. The difference from then to now is that when it is dry, I haven't seen the club water it since the very first few games of use, apparently the council's H&S put a stop to that! When it's raining, the pitch is a joy to play on. For a 'summer' league, they shouldn't be used.

The pitch in Oriel after it was re-laid was excellent, then the UEFA tests happened. There is all sorts of tests that need to be conducted, ball bounce, spin etc and the result was a load more of the black pellets were put on the pitch which actually made it play worse and looks terrible. Hopefully the rumours are true and we're back to grass in the next couple of years.

Blackburn Have a few injuries in the position but James Brown on the bench tonight, getting a look in with first team anyway

There was talk we had someone on trial but all's gone quiet on that front. Seems like Grivosti and Adam O'Reilly (maybe Matty Smith also though it seems unlikely) will round out the outfield squad* so it's all on getting a keeper now. Always a gamble going outside the league but let's hope it's more Jaros than Abibi.

* Although I wouldn't say no to another midfielder as well as O'Reilly personally

I reckon we must have someone in place at this stage and are having to wait for them to arrive. I’d prefer to see them soon enough and to start training with the rest of the squad. I’ve heard a few rumours but nothing solid.

Seems like a bit of a risk paying a fee and giving him a two year contract considering his recent injury record.

Dont think Ive ever heard of that type of injury before, that ligament would be so small I doubt it could be operated on like an ACL so would have been hard to sort. Kelleher has been super scorned if he is opening the pockets to the point of paying transfer fees, who'd have been the last few players St Pats have paid a fee for out of interest?

Martin Rennie was the last in 2020. He was a striker signed from Scottish league one club Montrose who said it was a five figure sum. 11 appearances and 0 goals later and he was released before the end of the season and signed back for Montrose who were only without him for a handful of games in the end due to covid. A master stroke signing recommended by Pat Cregg who played with him and clearly has a horrendous eye for a player ;)

Pats have signed Adam O'Reilly on loan from Preston.

Looks like Dawson Devoy is on his way to Mk Dons too. Big loss for Bohs and the league in general

Certainly up there as one of the worst strikers ever for Pats. He is the Pats hall of shame alongside such alumni as Martin Garratt , Donal Broughan & Marcus Hallows along with many many more.

Ah here will ye give over with the swipes at Dundalk FC legends:D Just for lobbing the keeper with a free kick from inside the centre circle (v Harps I think) and the blinder he played in the 2002 cup final!

Rennie was such a disaster that Pats fans still reference him now as a cautionary tale whenever anyone new signs from outside of the league. Hopefully SOD has learned not to listen too much to Cregg on recruitment anymore for Dundalk's sake.😁 Wouldn't imagine the fee is crazy anyway, sure teams pay compensation for signings within the league so it's not exactly out of the ordinary.

Losing Devoy is a real killer for Bohs. He already looked the part but I was expecting him to really take off this season and cushion a lot of the blow of the other departures.

Indeed. The best thing about SOD leaving Pats is that he took Cregg with him. Could never forgive the Rennie recommendation. Possibly the worst player I’ve ever seen in a Pats shirt, and we paid a bloody fee !!!

I reckon if Dave Odumosu doesn't get picked up in the UK he will probably end up at Pat's.

As for Drogs we're in for another couple of signing according to the Drogheda Indepenedent one of them will be a CB. Have no idea who it could be as not many players left here that aren't tied down.

Delighted with Mahdy signing. Had half hoped that we'd sign him last season, but great bit of business by Ollie. Think he was woefully underused by Shels, and will thrive as the main out and out striker.

At least I hope so..

Does that leave shels with only Sean Boyd as a forward option? They look very light in attack at the moment. Anyone linked with going to them?

I see Ryan Cassidy is looking like he’s going to Bohs on loan from Watford until the summer. He’d have been one that shels could’ve done with IMO

They signed Dan Hawkins who was on loan at us last season aswell,he's not bad,a bit lightweight but not someone they'll be hanging their hat on to score goals....

Sean Boyd definitely looking like our only out and out striker, as mentioned Hawkins can play up top I believe more of a wide attacker, Sean McSweeney can also play there but plays more of an attacking midfielder

I have no idea why Mahdy has suddenly left after re-signing for 2022 and even modelling our new strip to sign for Harps 4 weeks before the season starts. I hope it's a situation we have someone else more high profile lined up and maybe it suited Yoyo go back part-time or if he was moving up around there. Looked a smart energetic player last season but he was another one that Morris never seemed keen on and played him on the wing a few times, then he had a mid season injury all which limited his appearances

Drogs have re-signed Mark Hughes - good player but was very unlucky with two injuries last season.

We also signed Keith Cowen centre back formerly from Harps more recently Dungannon Swift’s.

That’s a strange one about Cowan. Left Harps as he didn’t like the mileage associated with the LOI so went to the Irish League.

Cowan wasn't kept on by Harps. We had much better last season anyway. Gave us several good seasons but this is a strange move as I'm not convinced he's got Premier Division LOI football left in him.

Dan Hawkins, as mentioned, is an attacking option for Shels, but is predominantly a winger. Wouldn't be overly confident going into a Premier season with Boyd and Hawkins as your attacking options either.

rumours of a 30k fee too. Interesting signing, cover is needed there as Gannon will be out for a few weeks, though with Cotter you'd have thought there was adequate cover unless he'll be covering the left until Kavanagh or Farrugia are match fit. Like any of these rumours, I'll believe it when I see him standing beside the 2 Stephen's holding up a green & white hooped scarf.

Think it was just a case of getting anybody in we could as not many left on these shores and not sure we can afford any loanees if accommodation costs are involved. He brings bags of experience with him at least but I'd imagine it will be Massey and Andrew Quinn our starting CB's. We have Poynton listed as a defender on our website also so I think our defence might be a bit experimental this season.

It would be compensation only and they will owe us compensation for Max Murphy (i presume??).
I'd imagine there wont be a lot in it plus most of their compo will go to Kevins, at least we get to keep the MAx Murphy fee...you are right though i'll believe it when i see him holding up the Scarf

Must be gutting for Sligo that. Mahon is a good player but it's a bit of a drop to go from the Celtic rumours of a couple of years ago to almost certainly be playing in the Scottish Championship next season with the way St. Johnstone are going. Suppose they'd likely be favoured to bounce straight back up at least

Yeah I can only imagine he's going down there as cover, and not as a starting player. He's a secondary school teacher in Letterkenny, so at least he'll have a full summer for football, but hell of a commute after work for training midweek. Although that'll be no different to what the likes of Adam Foley done for Harps last season while living in Drogheda, so it's doable at least.

Yeah, was surprised that he didn't kick on at Shels last year. Outscored Colm Whelan at UCD in 2020, which is no mean feat, but then didn't seem to do the business at Tolka. Seems a solid enough signing for Harps, but it is a weird move alright.

Bohs could end up the secondary club playing out of Dalymount in due course with the rate they lose young talent. Yeah its tough to keep hold of them and they do well rebuilding almost each year but are finances so tight that they cant or dont offer attractive enough terms? Its a cycle thats hard to break when a club becomes a selling club. Whatever about players moving abroad, it has to be hard for fans to stomach players leaving to other LoI clubs with fees involved not being an obstacle. 30k is a bargain for a young player like Lyons especially for a club that has CL football. He could move on again in time and earn Rovers a wedge and Bohs a piece of that too that maybe softens the blow.
