Paul Doyle from UCD to Dundalk.

Was known he was moving on this year. Club captain, but don't think he's at the level of other graduates at Dundalk (Boyle, McMillan, Benson, etc). D24 describes McClelland as a good solid squad player and I'd probably have Doyle around the same level.

You are still waiting on old news then? hmmmm! Although I can understand Pats' In the know fans wanting to move swiftly on as all their old claims make less and less sense. Bored non Pats fans, tough as it still amuses me!

I feel we're possibly at a bad point in the squad turnover cycle a little like the last time our last relegation season. We'd have had a much more stable squad up going up the previous season but that's just the challenge of being UCD. I'm speaking under the assumption that we may lose Kerrigan, Keaney and Whelan too by the end of the academic year.

Agree with your summation of Doyle's ability. He made a fine contribution to the club and hopefully he'll continue to develop and go on to have a fine career.

Yeah, I'm not optimistic alright, but you never know who'll come through, and if many more of Drogheda's players move to Richmond, then we've a chance.

At least we'll have a game every week, unlike the First Division!

I’m fairness we’ll need a few solid squad players anyway. What kind of midfielder is he?

Doyle will benefit though with higher calibre of players around him and full time training, hopefully he'll settle in quickly.

Another ex UCD name, Greg Sloggett should be confirmed on Monday with a new 2 year deal, probably Leahy also same.

Centre-mid. More in the Sloggett defensive mid mould than an attacking mid like, say, Gary O'Neill. So Sloggett scored 7 goals in 90 games, Doyle scored 5 in 110, O'Neill scored 40 in 142 for example.

Doyle will benefit though with higher calibre of players around him and full time training.
Yes, but bear in mind that when myself and Poor Student are comparing Doyle to other UCD players, we're comparing them from their time at UCD. So if he's going full-time, then yeah, you'd expect him to improve a bit, but that doesn't impact the view that we reckon he's not quite at the same level of other UCD players who've been at Dundalk.

Dundalk and St Pat's should both be deducted 50 points for this nonsense and also Drogheda for some reason.

Some Dundalk fans are like a dog with a bone on this. It’s in the hands of the legal system now. The Joe soap fan will only know what we read in indo when it comes to pass.

Georgie Poynton too has signed for Drogheda, Brennan Poynton Rooney were 3 of Shels most popular players who Duff should have done everything to keep them around with flexible training arrangements

I think Kev Doherty is playing a blinder for Drogheda at his recruitment with taking over having lost some of Drogheda's top players

Two good signings and a bonus they are local. We seem to have signed an awful lot of midfielders though as well as 3 strikers. Still really light in defence at the minute with Massey the only one of 3 defenders with any real experience. I have a feeling Poynton was playing a bit of CB with Shels though but I could be way off with that.

Georgie played some games at right back during 2020 and did ok there, he wouldn't be at all pacy to be nothing more than cover at that position, think he played pretty much every game in centre mid during 2021

Redmond only came in in July and was a very solid defender. Don't think he put a foot wrong in his time here. He was captain at Birmingham u23's so he's definitely a capable footballer and still only 21.

Doyle on his day is brilliant but he can be a bit inconsistent. He'll definitely need to earn his place at Pat's, as Pat's have a few who play in a similar role. Hopefully he'll improve with full time football and good service. Will always get 100% from him.

McRedmond is a centre back played in the UK, early 20’s. very strong and a great reader of the game. I am very disappointed to see him go tbh.

Doyle - he is a funny player, his goal tally would make it look like he’s a beast but for a lot of games he’s anonymous but then pops up and gets a goal in important games. He rarely runs at and beats a man but around the edge of the box he has a good shot. He can also score with his head too. He linked very well with Lyons but when Lyons was out injured you could see Doyle’s game dipping and he started to get dropped as a starter for a while. It will be interesting to see how he fairs with Pats.

John Martin signs for Dundalk from Waterford. Good player and not surprised he has been signed by a Premier club. He's still only 22 but has been playing first team football for the Blues since he was 18.
Ian Morris seems to be favourite for the manager's job at Waterford with reports that it is to be announced soon.

The examiner had an article up last night claiming Morris was set to be appointed as manager and that there’s only 5 players under contract. Eddie Nolan the only one named. Oddly enough I think the article has been taken down as I go no longer find it, but the reporter John Fallon is normally spot on and he also tweeted the news.

Ye could do with a manager in ASAP I’d imagine. Afaik we are starting preseason training after Christmas I’m not sure if it’s 27th or 3rd of Jan but I’d say most clubs will be starting back around the same time.

I don't think King was ever linked with Dundalk to be fair, but others have and might follow, Barrett and Mountney are the obvious too, maybe one more also.

I`m sure the 'snake' is hissing thinking about who to go for next.

Not what he expected to be served at Christmas. It’s sad that it came to this. If he waited a few weeks and if Dundalk did their business in a more ethical and transparent manner it could have been avoided. We don’t want anyone at our club they doesn’t want to be there so it’s the manner in which it all happened that sticks in the craw. It’s not nice think of any family receiving court papers at this time of year but in the same token he didn’t give a **** about any of the Pats people two days after winning the cup.
