Maybe he failed his Yoyo test......sorry, sorry, couldn't help myself there
Could have been worse, you could have said his form was up and down.....

That was a píss take, some nutter Harps fan wanted to make himself feel better about Russell signing for us over them, so he invented that we offered Russell a 52 week contract on huge money, which of course is utter nonsense. The fella has left us after a month and signed for a PT relegation favourite in the Irish League apparently.
That's a bit of a lousy statement.

Portadown have alway been known to be great payers. They have several local business who are very generous. Unfortunately they were found out making dodgy payments and paid the price and are now rebuilding. So if he gets the same money or more (in sterling) he's better off financially. He was your player, you had him, you should have did more to keep him. He left after 6 weeks which is better than staying and not giving 100%.

Jonathan Afolabi to Bohs…

A signing that sounds great until attention is paid to his goals record. If he wasn't even standing out in second/third tier Scotland I wouldn't be expecting him to run amuck here from Day 1 either.

What strikers are coming into this league with great scoring records excluding someone established like Eoin Doyle?

Mmmm, Glen Crowe didn’t score too many before he came home either!
And I’d say him and Junior might cause a few headaches!
Mr Doyle had a good record outside our league yet doesn’t seem prolific here either….

To be fair I said at the time that I thought Doyle was on the downswing and that his multi-year contract was a disaster in waiting. Bohs might be fortunate to see Afolabi trending the other way but if he's not doing much in the Scottish third tier in his last loan (2 goals in 12 in a part-time league?) there's no real reason for excitement either.

Keena wasn't ripping it up at that level either

That's fair actually though he was a little bit better (about a goal in every 4 to Afolabi's 1 in 5). 🙂

Just because he played for celtic doesn't mean a thing. When the ball hits the onion sack a few times then we'll make statements. But good luck to him anyway, I hope he does well. I do think Bohs have done well 8n the current transfer market

Afolabi was generally deemed a lazy striker until he suddenly caught a wind about 19. A few decent underage Ireland performances, a move, and then the hard graft. Hard graft is just that, hard, and Afilabi was never a grafter, so let's wait an see. Last chance saloon, and if I was a Bohs fan, I'd be skeptical. Having said all that, a very similar player to Omochere, both ex Joeys, but Omocjere found a work rate. Let's wait and see.

I find it gas the stick Eoin Doyle gets. His linkup play has probably been his best attribute this season yet he’s still only 1 goal off top scorer in the league. Not sure what that says about all the other strikers in the league if a 'poor' 34 year old Doyle is outperforming the majority of them

I think maybe expectations were very high because of his reputation. I’m still a bit on the fence myself. His general play has been good and as you say he’s got more goals than perhaps people realise. He misses a lot though. Thursday being the latest example.

Nothing has changed there then he has always missed a lot. Scored over 20 league goals for Sligo Rovers before he went across but should of had a lot more to his tally.

Yeah think it’s the 31st July it closes. However, up until the end of August (I think), clubs can sign players that were free agents since before the 31st July however

Or if they're going to a different league.
Gartside has left Derry for Cliftonville. Makes sense. He was never going to get on ahead of Maher.

He's on loan from RB Leipzig to be fair so it’s likely that they’d be covering most if not all of his wage anyways.
Thats been the case with Pats loans from Premier League clubs, Liverpool paid Jaros wage for example

Yep, I was referring to LOI clubs signing players. Other countries have different transfer window dates and can sign players from any league as long as it’s within their own window.
Who's Derry's second choice keeper now that Gartside is gone?

Fair enough I wasn't sure is he actually a prospect they were keen to give experience to or just a B team journeyman they wanted rid of. If they want to get games for him would they not be better off sending him somewhere else?

Joseph Anang being recalled by West Ham to go on loan to Derby, which is both gutting for us and also a bit hilarious considering there's still Pats fans too prideful to admit that they were wrong about him apparently not being any use

The new trend of loan signings from English clubs is interesting, but this is the big drawback of course

Very disappointing to see him leave but no point going ott either. While he played well in the European games his was no Buffon either. I think he was a good shot stopper but very prone to getting stuck to his line. I don’t see what West Ham’s thinking on this is. I’d imagine he is better playing week in week out than warming Derbys bench.

Yeah, as back-ups go Odumosu is probably the best in the league so could definitely be a lot worse. He hasn't gotten a single minute this season though so still a big ask for him to come in and take over the mantle with such a key period of the season coming up.

I don't think it's OTT to suggest he's not been useless, which is all I did. He's gotten heaps of stick over the season for essentially not being Jaros, but on the whole he's been quality and among the least of our problems. According to Derby folk more in the know about them than I am that I've read today he'll be coming in to start for them, which if so seems a bit of a no-brainer for him to go even if it's a blow to us.

Lot of extreme people in world these days that they have to either love or hate someone or something with no middle ground. He was decent keeper with potential. He played very well in the European games in particular. It’s a tough break on us lose him at a crucial part of the season.

Thats a real shame. He was highly regarded when with the Dundalk underage sides, which is a bit of a laugh considering the keeper issues we subsequently had and how he wanted to re-sign for Dundalk at the time. Drogheda fans didnt seem to have any real ongoing issues. Keepers mainly tend to get focued on when they are bad or after a howlers and Odumusu didnt have neon lights highlighting a pending disaster.

Shame for Odumosu but those are the breaks I guess. Seems a bit of a daft situation caused by whatever advice Anang has gotten, he was cleared to stay until the end of the season so we let Keeley go to Spurs, then the Derby move came up for Anang so threats were made unless he was allowed to leave this week, which then forced us into a corner especially with Odumosu's injury. As short notice signings go Rogers looks a good one though, certainly based on today at least.

Most loan deals have a recall clause so why threats were necessary unless the parent club were daft enough not to have such a clause. Even for the basket case that is Derby County ye can see why it would be a preferred experience for a player. St Pats really get no luck with these things, from former head coach leaving, beng stranded abroad after being let down by charter flight, and being threatened over an agreed loan extension.

There was an option for West Ham to recall him in June but they didn’t opt to recall him and were happy for him to stay until the end of the season. After that was confirmed, pats then let Josh Keeley leave the club to sign for Spurs. It’s clear Anang's agent has advised him to play dirty to get pats to cut the loan short after hearing of Derby's interest. Never nice to see but that’s football. Good goalkeeper and will go on to have a good career no doubt. Meanwhile Danny Rogers is an experienced and capable replacement that’s been signed on a permanent basis so not the end of the world, specially considering there’s only 11 games left this season now.

Incorrect. If that was the case then they would’ve just recalled him from the loan and there would’ve been no need for the player to threaten to not fly to Sofia if Pats didn’t agree to cut the loan short. As Clancy mentioned, the clause to allow him return in June wasn’t taken up by West Ham

I saw an article saying he would only travel to Sofia and play if they would let him leave. He must have wanted to go. Better without him if that's the case. The keeper yesterday played well and will relish the opportunity presented to him.
