View Full Version : Bohs in financial trouble - FAI Licencing called into question again?
And if what higgins says above is true, (and i've no reason to doubt him), about how shels dealt with their issues, and still got relegated
Just so we're clear, Shels were lucky to be only relegated after their carry on. That other clubs may get better treatment doesn't detract from the fact they rode the league for years and, thankfully, are now paying that price.
Fair play to them for sorting themselves out

i didnt expect you to resort to amateur dramatics so quickly either sk.
This is your immediately preceding post -
Drama queen - get over yourself.
The ironing is delicious.
Seriously Stu - you'd benefit from looking at things with a less biased mindset. I can well understand how you're almost exclusively interested in seeing your club survive, and how your views are biased in that regard, but to tell others who can view things objectively to "shut the hell up" is a bit much.
In the meantime, the Indo are reporting that we've been put on standby for the Setanta Cup as Bohs only have four players signed (link in the UCD forum). That game is Bohs/UCD v Portadown on 21 Feb, with the return on 1 March.

yes. The second post is directly referring to the previous one. Im not sure what your point is. I also have no problem stating that anyone who gets so apparently offended, shocked or dismayed by the phrase "shut the hell up" is engaging in dramatics.

Im not sure why so many people are missing the point. Ill try and explain it again so there is no confusion over what i am saying. I do not have a problem with speculation. What i do have a problem with is a poster being challenged to provide proof of something which has already been reported in several media reports while on the other hand posters may speculate idly and present their ideas as fact and in such a way that it becomes accepted as fact and none of this is challenged.
I really had no idea that posters here were so sensitive to the phrase "shut the hell up". Especially when it is posted in a totally different way/context. if you cannot provide proof of your accusations then you should shut the hell up instead of asking someone to prove what is already in the media. Put up or shut up. Its pretty simple really and i thought it was on of those inherent rules that differentiates this website from other similar websites. I dont see why it should be a problem for so many.

Good luck to UCD if we are forced to pull out of the Setanta - i hope you do yourselves proud. I said it earlier in this thread that i am not against Fenlon leaving and if not being able to field a team to compete in the Setanta is the straw that breaks the camels back then i am okay with that.
by the way, yes i am totally biased. As biased as anyone else. Probably moreso. But i dont think that my point should be dismissed because of bias in favour of my club when that is clearly not the case here. I just want a bit of consistency in the application of the rules.

SkStu surely if Fenlon doesn't manage to get enough players signed before the deadline you could just fill up the rest of the team from your A team or were they culled aswell? could Bohs afford to keep the remaining players on contract for experience and just add a load of freebie amateurs to make up the numbers? If not, then I'm assuming Fenlons likely to be approached about taking a pay cut aswell? Not having a go or anything, chances are you don't know the figures to answer my questions but just wondering what the general consensus with the fans seems to be?

No harm SkStu, but read the Limerick thread if you think FAI press releases need have any grounding in reality.
I assume the next time you start putting about stories you've heard as fact (i.e. all the time) even when you don't really know what's happening at Bohs (suggested by your surprise when the proverbial hit the fan towards the end of last season, for example), you won't mind being told to shut the hell up?
Fenlon will have a squad, don't worry about that.
He had a full squad training in Carton house last week.
Whether they want the hassle of Setanta or not is a different issue

No harm taken PineappleStu. As i said numerous times at this stage - speculation is okay as long as that is all it is and that is all it is presented as. By the way, Ive made it my business to become more informed about the goings on in the club since. And i really wasnt that surprised at the time despite what you say - though i was a bit surprised that it took so little time to all break down so quickly.
But if you feel that i need to provide evidence of something that goes against what has been reported you can ask me to provide evidence or shut the hell up. Id like to at least think that i would be asked to provide evidence before being told to shut the hell up which, afterall, is all i said in the first place.

i thought we still had retained our A team too horton but Fenlons lines seem to put that in doubt. Reading between the lines i think he is asking for the club to stump up for some players as opposed to taking from A and youth teams. Your second question, the answer is yes, i believe we are retaining a few of the senior players (2 effin goalies though). I dont htink Fenlon has been or will be approached about taking another cut. I dont agree with it but there seems to be a modicum of logic behind it given how much it would cost us to pay him off added to the fact that he is a good manager and a decent shot to keep us up. The general concensus is really 50/50 amongst the fans. I would let him go if we could and bring in one of the usual cheap faces.

Hehe. This bit made me smile :)
posted this in Setamta thread. Think its worth posting here too.
Are Bohs missing from this photoshoot? Must be seriously considering pulling out

Aren't there 12 teams in the Setanta? Who else is missing?
(And kicking them out over a picture is silly. Natural causes will take their toll soon enough).

Crusaders and Cliftonville I think. Seeing as Billy Brennan is the Distillery player there, I'd guess that the NI clubs sent a Dublin based player for the most part.

You might not like the 'Carry On' as you put it. I was against most of the 'Carry On' at the time too. But when it actually comes to breaking rules Shels did very little wrong.
The facts are that Shels were punished for a lot less than what at least 5 or 6 clubs have done since then.
I'm not arguing that Shels should not have been punished. I'm just pointing out that the punishment for any other team since then on similar payment issues or worse has been nowhere near as severe.

Yes but since then the FAi has wised up and realised how bad the LoI really is. All it takes is one bugger of a bill to cripple most teams. If they had of let Cork/Derry/Bohs et al go to the wall, who would they get to replace them? would such teams be able to get anywhere near the same level of fans? Lets be honest, if the FAI properly followed all its rules, clubs would be dropping like flies and JD et co. would be out of a job. I don't know specific figures, but i'd imagine theres a MASSIVE gap between the teams with highest agg attendance to those with the lowest. As so many teams have got into trouble, now they're starting to crack down on ensuring teams have some sort of sustainability.

I might have bought that a few years ago. Not now. Licensing has been an unmitigated failure on the financial side of things. At best, it's improved the standards of the LoI toilets.

Cork and Derry did go to the wall and were replaced by new teams with similar names who have a similar level of crowds.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry when I read of some of the players linked with Bohs, both through the media and by Bohs fans
The new mantra appears to be "wage caps at €500" which as a piece of delusional propaganda ranks right up there with "Rovers are part-time" and the 2010 Bohs version "no new contracts over €1,000 pw"
Take Liam Burns as an example - Ian Foster is on record as saying that he had offered him the same terms as last year, which Burns did not accept. Now it appears as though he will sign on for cash-strapped Bohs for a reduced wage of €500 a week!!!
I would be amazed if the Bohs fans speculation about Shaun Williams and Ronan Finn is anything other then bizarre delusion, but when you consider the potential players that are mentioned on the Bohs fourm the mind boggles:
B Murphy
G O'Brien
A Price
L Burns
L Fitzgerald
S Williams
R Bayly
R Finn
S O'Connor
A Flood
C Fagan
C O'Connor,
M Rossiter,
O Heary,
G Cronin,
S Byrne,
G Crowe,
The FAI and the Bohs board have more sense then sanctioning the sort of budget that this would need. Don't they???

youre the one who needs sanctioning if you think we will sign all those players FFS. Cop yourself on. The reason a lot of players havent signed with us is due to the fact that we havent offered enough and/or another team has offered more. Wise up.
Crying foul over transfer rumours and imaginary wage offers? Ive effing heard it all now.

So I take that as a no - the prudent Bohs board will not sanction over-spending?
