Yep. I'm of the view that he quit because of kenny. It's all to smoke and mirrors
That's not what Duff directly implied. Duff indirectly (but obvious) claimed that he had no time for Kelly.

What a limp effort by the journalist concerned. More like an ice-cream salesman. Why didn't he ask a few tough, core questions and not let Duff off the hook?
* Why did you accept the contract if you had strong issues with the current FAI or individual members?
* Did you have a problem with Alan Kelly? Videogate? Both?
* If so, why on earth would you quit the national team because you dislike the goalkeeping coach?
* Did you have a personality clash with Stephen Kenny? Was there a spat over strategy, selections?
* Ireland scored only one goal in eight games during your coaching stint - any guilt about that?
* That's three jobs and three exits. Are you a quitter, Damien?

He’s definitely not a poorly millionaire former footballer. He’s continuing in his coaching of Shelbourne U-17s.
He appears to have had a big issue with how Videogate was even a story and how it was subsequently handled - there’s far more to this story. Definitely seems as if there’s some personnel he’s unhappy with.

Duff said he didn't want to go into the detail, except for the Kelly jibe he didn't reveal much
Probably would have needed a Tommy Gorman to dig deep and inform Damien about his destined role in the greater scheme of Irish life, the dreams of all the little kids.

He was hardly in the job a wet day when suddenly he's legged it - apparently because of unrevealed problems with unnamed people. Unless there's a credible explanation, he comes out of this mess like a right snowflake.

Its all guess work obviously
I doubt he had an issue with Keith Andrews or the players, certainly not enough to quit over
Does he quit because he feels the players aren't good enough, I doubt it, that isn't in his make up, but this could be a possibility even if unlikely
Does he quit because the FAI are pathetic unhelpful wasters. defo no, he has known that for years
It could very easily be that he feels Stephen Kenny is nowhere near the required level
but who knows it could be something completely left field

Its guess work all right, and if i was to be a little bit more cruel you're just making up nonsense.
All the indications are that Duff went back as an employee of the FAI against his better judgement, but wanted to work with Stephen Kenny, and he left the FAI when his worst fears about them were quickly confirmed.

I will note, he didn't thank Stephen Kenny for the opportunity on his exit

LOL! Who here hasn't had to sit through some corporate / work nonsense from senior mgmt / directors over the years?
We came out and thought to ourselves what a load of boll!cks that was and got back to our day jobs - like the rest of the employees. We may not be millionaire footballers and we could have looked for another job but we didn't because that would be a total overreaction.
Duff was a number 3 and he let Kenny down big time. I liked Duff as a player but as a pundit and his general demeanour to me he comes across as a bit of a tool and a spoofer! Good riddance to him.

'The42 understands Duff’s problems were primarily with the FAI rather than Stephen Kenny, particularly the Association’s handling of the ‘videogate’ affair in which Kenny was found to have no case to answer by the FAI after an internal inquiry '

Did Duff have enough cause in anyone's book to just up and leave the Ireland set up? he is a chap with peculiarities.
it is a very strange episode considering Kelly announced his departure the next day.
As if they couldn't live with or without each other in the Ireland set up.

If he didn't enjoy his job he had every cause to leave. This weird notion that he should continue in a position he doesn't want seemingly for no other reason than some lads are living vicariously through an international sports team is baffling to me.
I've been pretty lucky in the jobs I've had but the one time I wasn't happy with where I worked I went out and got another job. Why would I or Duff (or you for that matter) keep going through a situation you're unhappy in when you have alternatives? That's just self-torment and it's unnecessary.

Why were you unhappy in that job. That's the question re duff here. If it's "my family live across the water and I miss them" fair enough that's his business and we move on. If it's the FAI or kenny or Andrew's are unbearably unprofessional, then that's different as we as fans are stakeholders etc

Duffs family are in Dublin, afaik. He's coaching with Shelbourne under-17's for the past year, so it's not like he left to go back to England.

Honestly it strikes me as a situation where Duff has never in his life had to “play the game” and listen to B.S. from higher ups. Most of us (sadly) have learned what we need to do/say to keep our jobs.
In this climate of everyone constantly looking to be offended, of course the FAI had to investigate the video. They did and found no reason to take action. If that seems over the top in Duff’s view I don’t really know what to say.
But I will say I was investigated on dubious grounds at a workplace once and it was a very unpleasant experience.
Being grilled by wannabe corporate cops even if you know you/your boss have done nothing wrong would make anyone want to leave.

I think most can agree that being selected to coach the national senior squad is one of the highest honors.
And he's suddenly left all that after some rumpus to end up coaching Shelbourne kids.
Personally I'm baffled about that decision, what happened to resolutely standing your ground and just carry on?

there was a media report a few days after duff left saying Kenny had identified the preferred replacement for Duff but not for Kelly. Maybe that person turned the job down and they're still searching for the right candidate...

Sorry, I mean the coach. It said he had worked how his preferred candidate to replace Duff (but at the time, hadn’t worked out a replacement for Kelly).
The fact Kiely has been appointed and the replacement for Duff hasn’t been, might indicate that the person had turned down the job or there were some other complications...

Kenny has a real issue for Serbia game with his striker options and it seems to be getting worse by the week.
Connolly didnt make it off the bench this week.
Idah has come on in 90th minute in almost every game for Norwich recently.
Parrott still has no goals in senior football even after dropping down division.
Collins on bench for Luton this week and poor goal record recently.
Robinson didnt get off the bench at the weekend.
Long got his 1st goal for Bournemouth so thats a positive but we know hes not going to be prolific for us.
If we go back to McGoldrick, even he was sub at weekend and only got 15 minutes.
Other possible options such as Odubeke and Scully not doing enough yet.
I honestly have no idea who he should pick. Its really not the breakout season that we were hoping for.

Hogan has four in the last ten games, so although hardly the answer to anything at the required level, he will probably be in the squad or in the shake up for it.

Shipodo has eight in L1 and is young enough still to maybe come to something.
Madden has seven with four assists in the same division
As you mentioned Scully and Parrott, those two are knocking around the same level.

Meanwhile, Stephen Kenny is close to announcing a replacement for Damien Duff. Lee Carsley, John O’Shea and Mark Kennedy have been linked with the gig but the chosen candidate is understood to be a new face who has not featured in speculation around the post.
I thought Kennedy would have been an excellent choice.

Is Mark Kennedy’s career as a player much of an example of how to knuckle down and make the best of your abilities ? His career serves more of a warning to any young player of how not to carry on !

"Three of the least feared strikers across three divisions" is what was posted. That is different to them not being "remotely feared strikers." I am very sure there are plenty strikers that are less feared in the three divisions.
