Disgraceful card received. This stuff usually ignored by the authorities wrt McLean abuse.
I recall Colin Murray having a dig at McLean after MOTD 2 over the poppy - clearly aimed at stirring up the hate.

Wasn't Murray 'kicked out' himself for having too much of a mind of his own? I actually liked him but don't remember the McClean dig.

Not sure why he left match of the day, but he left Talksport after they were bought by NewsCorp, who also own the sun, and as a Liverpool fan he couldn't in good conscience stay there.

Interesting, never knew that. Piece on his MOTD departure here - https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/did-match-of-the-days-old-guard-ensure-colin-murray-got-a-red-card-29040166.html
It is understood Murray was looked upon as irritating by some of the Match of the Day pundits who felt he was there to ask them questions rather than offer his opinions on matches and players, which he regularly did.

I love the fact, that the author has so much poison in him, that he actually writes the whole way through and then on the back of the card

It was just before the closing credits. I was surprised the BBC was willing to give room for such a personal dig - especially from someone from the north of Ireland.

It's more likely the MOTD pundits were discomfited by this annoying paddy who didn't know his place in the proper order of things, rather than the BBC taking issue with Murray's indirect stab at the lone dissident's gesture against the glorification of all those who died in the 'great' cause of british imperialism.
At the time I thought McClean should have ignored him as Murray habitually winds people up with no great ulterior motive outside the actual wind up. McClean got wound up, Murray has a wee chuckle.

At least yer man remembered his Birthday .
Didn’t Man City upset one of their players by not remembering his birthday one time .
I suppose yer man has no family and just wants to be loved by someone .

Maybe I'm over-reacting but I think it's disgraceful that Crouch got away with that on Irish radio. Demonstrated to me why Sean O'Rourke is, in my view, one of the most bland and average broadcasters on the radio and I think a more spiky host would have pulled Crouch up on it.
Again, I may he over-reacting and maybe misinterpreting Crouch but how is Bulgarians abusing black Englishmen racism and Englishmen abusing Catholic Irishmen not? If that's what he was implying then he's very ignorant.

I think he's saying that 'hating black people' is not the same as 'hating someone who doesn't wear a poppy'. Obviously the situation is more nuanced than that unfortunately.

Okay, I took it one step further as regards the expression of this hatred. As we know, the supporters that hate McClean for not wearing a poppy don't shout stuff like "Where's your effing poppy? Eff you for not wearing a poppy!" Maybe some do shout stuff like that!

He's his own solo choir singing 'we all dream of a team of James McCleans'. For most us that kind of dream involves waking up and refusing to turn off the light until the noinster comes out from under the bed!
And as for having a go at Stephen Hunt for his mediocre career: quiz question - which of the two wingers actually won a medal in the UK?
Give him a platform and he's like a poor man's Roy Keane at this stage.

Surely Breen and Hunt are big enough and old enough and ugly enough to be able to take a bit of stick off James McClean. It annoys me, if pundits are able to dish to out but not take some back. We will see how it pans out.
There is a lot more to James interview in the Derry Journal than the 42 website has reported. He talks in depth about Kenny himself and the team.
He name drops more than once your lad Molumbuy at Millwall(?) as a player he expects Kenny to elevate straight away and says from playing against him he thinks he is top class.
Not sure if full interview is on the horrendous Derry Journal website, I will try out a photo of it up tomorrow if not.

You missed my point (though I'm sure they are able to take it). McClean is a kick and rush player, all heart, instinct and passion. In that, he's sympomatic of the state of our squad since Trap. But it's his temperamental nature that makes him a liability. He's as likely to get sent off as score, and as likely to go OTT to half-read or misunderstood comments as he is to post something stupid (the balaclava history lesson photo!) on social media. As far as I can see: He. Just. Doesn't. Think. Much less see consequences.
I don't know McClean from Adam, and I'm sure there are Derry fans here who do who may correct me (I'm open to it), but it seems to me that ageing hasn't brought the maturity that gives a so-so player a late golden era to compensate for old shortcomings. He looks increasingly petulant and needling. For the sake of the team and McClean himself I hope Kenny gets better out of him than anyone else thought possible.
That said, it's all well and good to defend a manager he worked with and admires, but will it last if Kenny's apppointment brings McClean's international retirement? Kenny wants a controlled, passing game that needs (self)discipline, skill and tactical nous. I'm not sure McClean brings enough to make a Kenny squad. Had he a comparable player in the U21s or Dundalk, for instance?
BTW, I can't imagine Hunt - no shy and retiring gent at the best of times - taking McClean's reaction lying down. I'm looking forward to the fireworks - this one could run!

He got 49% of the vote and that is borne out through posts on one of their fans forums: https://oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/295854/player-season
One person posted this which I'm sure is tongue in cheek (it is funny): How can James McLean get player of the season when, even though he's shown the most commitment and effort, been very effective and adapted to different positions, when he doesn't wear a poppy?

Well deserved. People like to sneer and make assumptions of people from underprivileged (post) industrial towns such Stoke.
But this says more of the judgemental sort who look down upon these people than those people themselves.
Anyway, well done, James.

He seems to take an awful lot of of stick on here for giving the ball away so much, but in my opinion, he's got the heart of a lion and always gives his all for Ireland. Glad to see a bit of good news for once.
He seems to be a lot less wasteful for Stoke and Michael O’Neill seems to have him flying.
I know him and Stephen Kenny think very highly of each other and James was delighted when SK got the job so it will be interesting to see if there is any change under new management with a new style, after all giving the ball away lot applies to the entire team for the last 10 years.
