It's safe to say, that's way outside the (qualitative) radar of my experience.

Ha, his account popped up in the "who to follow" suggestions bar. Of course, I acted upon it immediately but now feel awfully let down.

Sunderland Everton was the game on TV on Saturday morning over here and i meant to post here about the Irish lads but totally forgot.

I thought McClean was very good. It is actually the best i have seen him play at club level in terms of his overall game. I thought, as someone else said, he did very well defensively but i also thought he showed far more maturity in an attacking sense than i have seen before. He beat his man a couple of times and put in some crosses with varying success as is his trademark but he also received the ball deep and played a few clever through passes to an overlapping full back or inside to a striker. He impressed me. He wasnt flashy though, just solid. I preferred what i saw saturday to the headless chicken act i have seen a few times before.

O'Shea was a rock. Singled out for praise by the commentators. A couple of hoofs but did his job very well.

Gibson came off injured at half time (commentators said he has been carrying a strain over the last couple of months?) and didnt do too much in the first half but did look composed on the ball.

Coleman was a bit quieter than usual but again one of Evertons better players on a day when they were terrible.

Stu are you guys going to get every single EPL game next year In Canada like down here? First time ever. And its all on Basic Cable I believe.

We get every game up here already, almost none on basic cable though. If you have a cable box and subscribe to Sportnet One, Sportsnet West, Sportsnet World, TSN, and TSN2, you don't miss any matches. Many of the less glamorous ties are broadcast in sequence on same day tape delay after the live matches are over.

Yeah i mean i guess its extra though obviously. They have the package here too on most providers but this is going to be free, basically. NBC bought the rights and is starting 4 new channels or something to go with NBCS which right now shows the NHL and Rodeo. So along with the EPL the ratings will be through the roof :D.

This.

The only one I don't have is SNWL (used to be Setanta). This is the only one that shows Sunday games and FA Cup games. I dropped it last summer and never got it back. I just don't have enough time to justify shelling out for it. There is enough on the others to keep me entertained/"informed"... :)

Nice! Unfortunately up here we operate quite differently. ESPN for example is no allowed to be broadcast in Canada though we do get much of their programming through out own version, called TSN. There is no way that the CRTC would allow all of the matches to be broadcast free when Rogers have paid so much money to secure the rights.

I figured that. I see TSN on NHL net sometimes. Is there any way to get around not getting ESPN and other US channels in Canada? Could you get a dish if you wanted?

I'm not sure. I know back about ten years ago lots of people had pirate satellite dishes but I think that has all been wiped out by the satellite providers now.

I never heard of that one before, those Canadians were craftier than I thought and such a well kept secret.

His gung-ho approach to man-managing professional footballers is hardly going to endear him to the entire Sunderland squad. The players at Sunderland are unlikely to take media criticism and harsh penalties as well as a League One or Two footballer at Swindon. O'Shea is still playing and he has won far more than Di Canio! Di Canio's approach to management strikes me as one Roy Keane would have adopted had he been dabbling in Class A's for the duration of his time as Sunderland manager.

Well in recent times they have seemed to change their style regarding the North. This wouldn't surprise me if it was an inside job.

Tbf, saw this 'story' mentioned in quite a few places....

If it happened, a better mover for McClean than for Celtic IMO.
And Celtic have just signed a winger from Ajax, a Dutch lad allegedly...

As a Celtic fan, I really wouldnt be interested in signing McClean. Attitude, maturity, lacking in strings to his bow. That probably sums up my apathy with regards to his inclusion or non inclusion in Ireland squads at the moment. Obviously he's very young and plenty of time to step it up and improve but I just do not see anything there to get over excited about. I saw more in the couple of friendlies I have seen with Robbie Brady involved to put him ahead of McClean in the pecking order for me as a wide midfielder anyway.

Media outlets repeating the same useless rumour don't add to it, 0 x 10 is still zero. When the BBC understands/believes, then we can take note. Anyway Celtic are chasing after a left winger from Ajax, as AB allegedly pointed out.

That wouldn't be the worst move. Decent manager, decent squad posed to get back up the Premier League. And a season in the Championship could really suit his development.

Either way a fresh start - and a bit of cash for DCFC as well :)

Does that sound a little small to anyone else? I know McClean didn't have a great season, but would have thought he'd be worth 5+ at least.

Charlie Darwin

Not sure why a player with a questionable disciplinary record and poor form would be commanding anything close to £5m when better, more marketable players are available for less.

£2 million is about right. It's a bit of a cliché at this stage, but if he was English, he'd go for £5 million+.

Believe it was 15% selling clause with a friendly mixed in, but once de canio took over it was agreed 20% selling on fee once Oneill left. Could be worth around £400k to DCFC. I thnk in future if he gets his head down will be a good move for him. Heard also Blackburn are in for him and Hull City ( Steve Bruce, probably regrets not playing him now before he left )
