Interesting comments here from McGeady

http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/european-championships/oneill-will-get-us-right-for-tbilisi-clash-mcgeady-30557342.html

O'Neill versus Trap at the Euros
Celtic O'Neill versus Ireland O'Neill

O'Neill also hinting that 3 at the back is feasible, perhaps as a back up. Irish Times said this too.

"McGeady accepts expectations will be high considering two teams qualify automatically from the group but warned that Ireland face a higher calibre of opponents than they did en route to the 2012 jamboree."

The players felt that was an easier group too.

I'll start: Hey, Aiden, did you see that Keogh fella in the play-off final?

it looks like MON has said something and laughed, which McGeady initially found funny, but now isn't sure if the manager was joking or not.
I'm going with "for corners against Germany, I want you to mark Mertesacker"

"Refresh my memory Aiden, Why don't you score enough goals again and continuously hit crosses at the first Defender?!"
"Eh...." bemused by the fact he is unsure if its a statement or a joke or a question.
"Eh Martin hold on there, where do I fill up the water from?!" said Keogh.

One of Roy's requirements for international football in tonight's match programme read as follows:

Two, they have to be playing regularly. The more games you play, the fitter you are.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BwoI-oyCUAA0fPC.jpg:large

As Neil O'Riordan pointed out on Twitter (https://twitter.com/noriordan/status/507227801729400833), Shay's selection would appear to contradict that.

Keane's second book is being released on the 9th October, three days before the Gibraltar match. Surely the inevitable sh!t storm and media hysteria could have waited a week but something tells me this isn't an unfortunate coincidence.

No wonder there was no issue taking the Villa job, with all the time finishing the book freed up!

Roddy Doyle: Keane was fantastic to work with right down to the proof-reading (http://thescore.thejournal.ie/roy-keane-book-roddy-doyle-the-second-half-1674088-Sep2014/?utm_source=facebook_short)

McGeady: Keogh ? He's always listening in on conversations. In fact I'd say he's a right wa*ker

Interesting article, I'm sure I remembered him during Droghedas Euro campaigns. Seems very skinny, particularly the legs, for a professional footballer.

From what I can see he made the bench a couple of times but didn't play. He did play for Fingal in the UEFA Cup though.

Another thing I notice about a lot of Irish footballers is that we have no necks (Stan Lazaridis syndrome) and weak chins.

I don't think Keane even knew he was there really. Lambert was dead right though, totally unprofessional by Mourinho not to wait for the final whistle. To be fair, he does it when Chelsea are losing as well but it just comes across extremely arrogant when his team are winning.

He has been doing that since he came to England. I remember he did it in 2006 when 3-0 up against Man Utd. Not long after Keane said in an interview that it would have annoyed Fergie. I think it is something obviously himself and Lambert knew would happen and weren't going to entertain it and rightly so. Typical Jose look at me lets make this about me.

We are not unique, I have always said it, "barstoolers" are everywhere, and every country is the same. I was trying to explain to a bulgarian at work that they wont care about a team getting into the CL etc, fans of rival clubs wont support and will more than likely support a foreign team. I wasn't believed.

Then i was sent this earlier:

"watched some bulgarian news yesterday - they are preparing for the game (not sure when it is) - but i was suprised there were Real Madrid bulgaria fans that will prefer to support RM instead of Ludogorets for this game
so sad"

Pretty harmless stuff really, light entertainment, he actually probably did Keane and Lambert a favour because the papers are talking about this not the result.
Not that the result was unexpected.

Just looking at the Scotland squad which is largely made up of Championship players (only one EPL defender) or EPL players at less glamorous clubs, plus some promising kids and I wonder why we beat ourselves up over the talent we have available. A lot of this comes from the top down, with MON publicly downbeat on the players available and citing the need to exploit ancestry opportunities.

I've been very impressed by Strachan's Scotland and they clearly show what can be done with good attitude, some courageous squad selections and a dollop of luck thrown in.

For what it's worth I agree that Matt Doherty should be in our enlarged squad over Stephen Kelly. Kelly's a top bloke and a decent player when fit and playing regularly but when not playing regular football is a pointless selection. Doherty - while I agree with CD that he is only now starting to warrant attention - has started the season well enough to deserve consideration. I used to love it when Mick took bold decisions, even daft ones. So far MON has been cautious.

But "so far" = one competitive game so it's hatdly anything to get wound up about yet.

Not an uncommon trait in successful managers though, I am thinking of the likes of Brian Clough there.
Not sure if he would do that but he once punched one of his own fans. )
