Ads are based on your browser history. So what exactly have you been browsing?

Actually I was using a brand new tablet I bought when I made that post so I didn't have any browser history at all, I notice the current adverts (on my PC) here are for a local building society indeed the Nottingham building society, which does seem appropriate given we were discussing Nottingham Forest, hence it seems they maybe based on what I post also?
There is also an advert for a file converter, perhaps appropriate given I am a bit techy, but I've no need for a file converter, or maybe I do but don't realise it!

So I am no sure what it is based on, I literally only started using the tablet a day or so ago. I just had a look at the history and I had clicked on a story about some woman who died after heart surgery, maybe that had something to do with it.

The tablet is a

Anyhow Forest lost and Bristol City drew, don't think I am allowed to say how that has affected their chance so I won't, but the gap has gone from 3 points to 4 points and they only have 11 games left not 12, so probably not too much, certainly an opportunity missed, they could have closed the gap to one point, I can't see them going anywhere this season they don't seem to have improved at all.
The teams close to them Derby and Birmingham also lost so I guess their chance has not changed as much as you would expect, but they can't really afford too many results like that is anyway if they are to have a chance. They are very much in the last chance saloon. Granted they may be flat on their backs but they are still in there. ;)

By the way I am being offered the chance to.

WIN A BRAND NEW HOLIDAY HOME!

Worth up to £40,000!

Entry is free so not really gambling I guess, but " The winner(s) will be required to participate in post promotion publicity"... hmmm... :)

Also this sounds rather disconcerting "Pitch fees are included for the current season along with water and rates bills."

Well a good day for Forest, winning 3-0 v Hull, other results went their way.

Bristol City and Middlesbrough lost Derby drew.

Still a fair bit to do though, Bristol City have a game in hand, so they can't afford to drop too many point
if they are to even make the play offs.

Home again to Villa next, then away to bottom of the table Ipswich.

I'd say they need to win both, knowing Forest they will lose both! :D

4 West Brom .....36 20 61
5 Middlesbrough 35 13 58
6 Derby............ 36 2 . 55

7 Bristol City...... 35 7.. 54
8 Nottm Forest... 36 10 53

Bristol drew so just 2 points off a play off place, a win and anything other than a win for their two rivals would put them in a playoff spot.
So very doable. Then a playoff win puts them in the top flight!!

Well Forest lost so back to square one, so 3-5 points to make up depending on how their game in hand goes.
It always seem to be just out of their grasp, but with 9 games to go it's still a possibility.

Given if he was available when Rodgers fled for the EPL lure, would MON have considered or been seriously considered for the Celtic job?
Somehow I suspect he wouldn't have been considered or welcomed by the fans even though he's held in very high regard by both.

Sabri Lamouchi was one of my favourite all-time players for Parma, even though he was probably past his peak when signed despite being relatively unknown this side of the world I reckon. He was a really really smooth player, and if he coaches like he played, then Forest are going to see some very fluid football.

I think it's safe to say Kingdom didn't write his Wikipedia page! - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabri_Lamouchi

He then went on to join Monaco (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AS_Monaco_FC), who he helped to the Ligue 1 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ligue_1) title in 2000, before being snapped up by Parma (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.S.D._Parma_Calcio_1913) of Italy. Even though he had an average season, he was again on the move this time to Italian giants Internazionale (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inter_Milan). He also struggled there, and failed to win a place in the team.

A lot of people delighted that O’Neill has failed at Forest it seems.
The last year with ROI was a disaster but when I think of O’Neill’s era for Ireland I think of O’Shea against Germany, Long against Germany, Brady scoring in the fog, Walters sending us to the Euros in the second leg, Sweden and Italy in the Euros, putting it up to a fresher France in the Euros who should’ve won that competition and went on to win the World Cup in style.
And of course that famous 7-0 win against Gibraltar!!!

Where do you see the delight? Don't mistake delight for expectation of the inevitable. It was a bad expensive move by Nottm Forest to appoint the duo, this was flagged from the off.
And MON should have stood up for and supported Arter over and above the interests of bootboy Keane, those type of things matter a lot to a team.

Perhaps not as much here as on The 42 and elsewhere. My real point was that I have great memories from O'Neill's era and I thank him and his team for that, as much as it fell apart in the last year.

Oh there was delight, it may have been invisible to the naked foot.ie eye, but it was there in abundance. I'm with Fixer though generally, despite the last year or so being a real low and MON being a major part of that. He still oversaw some of our best times, which don't come around very often.

Some interesting tidbits on O'Neill's management style from an article (https://theathletic.com/1790695/2020/05/05/aston-villa-oneill-martin-agbonlahor-cska-2009-season-europe/) on the 08/09 Villa season on The Athletic.

Before each game, Martin O’Neill would walk into the Aston Villa dressing room and stare intently at his matchday notes.
The players already knew what was coming and would start sniggering and laughing between themselves, hoping not to catch the manager’s eye. “Same team, same subs” O’Neill would say with conviction, removing any need for holding what was in his hand with those four words that become synonymous with that season.
“It became a running joke between the lads,” laughs Steve Sidwell when discussing with The Athletic the 2008-09 season where Villa missed out on the chance to rock the top order in the Premier League. “We were actually going to buy a racehorse, put on Villa’s colours and call it ‘same team same subs’.”
O’Neill, in the words of his former Villa colleagues, was a “creature of habit”. He had a core group of around 13 first-team favourites and felt there was no need to rotate a team when it was performing well and winning, which at Villa was the case for a large chunk of that particular season.

Tactically, there wasn’t much attention to detail and training wasn’t always as high and intense as it would have been under other managers. Set-piece practice rarely existed and instead it was “let Martin Laursen jump up and win every header”. There wouldn’t be much game-to-game variation either, as Davies explains: “If there was a plan, it was our better players win us the game, we never had clear tactical guidance. It was: read the names from the team sheet, go out and win the game. Our only alternative was, instead of using all the players, give it to Ash (Young)!

For all the mocking, he was easily Villa's best manager of the last 10-15 years and, let's face it, ours too. It's not saying a lot, but it is saying something.

irishfan86

It’s certainly easy to mock. But it’s easier said than done to identify your best XI and get the best out of them on a consistent basis. Certainly it seems he doesn’t overanalyze the game — that’s clear.

But perhaps he’s enjoyed some success as a relative counterbalance to managers who get into what many would see as irrelevant minutiae. For some players it could be initially refreshing to not have the micromanagement that has become so dominant at the highest level.

I think O’Neill has a point but doesn’t come across well by making it.

There were periods where O’Neill had the team playing as more than the sum of its parts, but near the end, it definitely felt like time for a change.

I think Kenny has been given more time because there’s a widespread feeling this squad is incredibly weak/young. We needed a complete rebuild and I don’t think many managers in world football would have been able to bring us to qualification with these players.

As we approach the next campaign, some of these guys will be a year older, Evan Ferguson will hopefully continue to improve even further.

I’m sympathetic to Kenny in some ways and I admire his push to get this team to play possession football, but a fresh start is probably needed.

It's not a straight line to compare what each manager had and achieved but let's take one perspective on the the plaudits he receives for qual for Euro 2016.
Before the 2016 Euros there have been 6 campaigns since 1988. With a similar 2016 qual criteria that MO'N had, we could have qualified direct some 4 times after finishing in the top 2 and in the other 2 campaigns we would've been in the reckoning for the playoffs after finishing 3rd, even Stan's Ireland finished 3rd.
Does he have a point? one of the world's highest paid managers along with highest paid side kick in the history of football, after a sh'ite last campaign, at a time when the FAI was just about to collapse? I'd have a lot of respect for MO'N but little time for his sarcasm, his lack of graciousness in this respect and his sense of entitlement. He should take a leaf out of Mick's book when it comes to certain aspects of character.

A random one here (if he goes ahead with it, that is), esp since he succeeded Howard Wilkinson as Chair of the (English) League Managers Association only last month, usually a position for someone whose management career has wound down:

"Former Ireland boss Martin O’Neill may be set for a return to management in Romania"

It’s been almost five years since the 72-year-old’s last job after he was sacked by Nottingham Forest, but it has now emerged that Romanian top-flight side Rapid Bucharest are reportedly working on bringing O’Neill in as their new boss.

It would be O’Neill’s first club job outside of the UK in his managerial career, with Fanatik reporting that the club are hoping to secure the Derryman’s signature after Cristiano Bergodi was sacked last month following a disastrous start to the play-off series. The club have two games remaining this month before the campaign ends.
