Looked around 800 at the most in Drogheda, around 100 from Sligo, think there might of been a few Rovers in the little sit down stand as well.
Yeah there was quite a few rovers fans in the stand.

I wouldnt say it is close to a record low. At a match in St Mels Park good few seasons ago and the announcers famous line was "And now for the benefit of the players I will introduce the spectators"
I recall 29 being at a Mons game a few seasons ago. Have seen smaller crowds in Abbeycarton and Bishopstown as well
I would say that 65 will be beaten as well this season.
The smallest attendance for a league game in Bishopstown was a final league game against an already relegated Monaghan Utd, Douglas got a Hat trick for mons that day the last player to score a hat trick v City afaik, attendace 300.

65. With all due respect to Mervue, that's very poor. How is it financially viably for clubs like Mervue to survive
in the Airtricity League with attendances being so low.

I don't think it is; they apparently lost E100k last year and were considering pulling out. Only a rumour, but it's a persistent one.
Irish Times had 1470 for Pat's v Fingal (very much at odds with here), 3500 for Rovers v UCD (thought a bit under 3000 myself) and 920 for Drogheda v Sligo.
Cork City - doubling first division crowds all over the country - more than double your last attendance today! At this rate Shels can expect close to 2000 in a couple of weeks
Every club in the 1st division will be delighted seeing us coming as we'll generate their biggest gate possibly of the season .

I remember reading that Newry got a crowd of 89 for an Ir Lge Prem game one Sat in Dec 08, that has to be a record for any top flight division in europe.
I believe the record is 16

you had a fantastic support the other day and all very well behaved, however i think your numbers were greatly swelled by it being a semi holiday, the attraction of pubs being opened, a massive rugby game and one of the shortest distance to travel for an away game for you for the first time in years.

This is incorrect
We counted the people in main stand at 56 at one point, and at the same time there were 29 in the opposite stand. There were also 14 at least around the edges of the pitch standing, and 6 behind the goal by the entrance to the dressing rooms

Certainly more than half full, maybe 3/4s so about 600 or so Fingal fans if that's true about the size of that stand. The rest would have been Rovers so

Akratitos 0-3 Egaleo
That was in round 16; are you sure that's not what you saw? Although EFS (http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attn/2000/avegre.htm) has Akratitos' average that year as 573, with Egaleo next worst, so I've no doubt it was a low crowd.
Valga in the Estonian league in 2006 had an average crowd of 38 apparently (http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attn/2000/aveest.htm).

06/04/2010, 9:32 AM
my guess for Fingal v Rovers would be more around the 1200 mark the stand was just over 3/4 full, few dozen in the little terrace beside it and i'd say between 450-600 rovers fans. It was about a 50-50 attendance tho so not bad for a bank holiday monday. Our home crowds are getting bigger every game so that can only be positive for the club.

The one thing that should be clear now is there is no way for the league of Ireland to survive in its present 2 league format. With crowds like this clubs cannot survive. There is no place in Ireland for a full time professional set up, just not possible. There are teams playing in both the premier and first divisions who will either never win the league or be promoted. Look at how lopsided the premier division is.
we need to introduce a salary cap for each and every player every player paid the same also max squads to 20 ,make the lower division an amuture league. Introduce a 16 team premier league with 2 teams droping down and 2 coming up.

I read in the paper it was 2,368 which sounds like either an official attendence or completely made up. Still a decent crowd considering the match that was on. Was there a reason why the game was not played the day before like the other LoI games? Clashing with that match was not a good idea!

It doesn't necessarly mean bigger crowds but what it does is equal things out every club would have exactly the same salary and the same size squad. Just so you know I would set the wage at 300 euro per week. If everything is equal every team in the league would have the same chance to win and there would be much more competition. Also with a much lower salary budget less clubs will fold as in recent years. This would save football in ireland and create a more competitive league and yes I believe if it's more competitive the crowds will come back.
