Am I the only one who thinks that's rather unlikely?
Is there any sort of local rivalry between the two?

250 maximum at the match. I counted 60 in the old stand, and estimated 150 in the new from standing outside it.
There would be a rivalry between people involved in the clubs, not a general public rivalry between the areas.

So you'd basically have more of the clubs' other players than usual at the match?

More GUFC fans at the match than the other 2 clubs that were playing !

I didnt know where else to ask:D.
Which Irish clubs are most popular? What is average attendance on LOI matches? Is your league fully professional? What are clubs budgets?Same questions about Welsh league too,if anybody knows.
Cheers!

Last couple of years with opats saw the 2nd half of our season destroyed by weird days/times for kick offs. The rake of midweek games can't help clubs either
Shame that Monday game doesn't have an afternoon kick off

Personally think the LOI would be better cancelling the mid season break (Yes, I know all the arguments) than have the number of midweek matches we currently have. Difficult enough to get people out to a game on a Friday/weekend but even worse for a Monday game

The break is there for one reason only. Part time players wanting a summer holiday.

yeah, I know the reason but if we are stuck with it then perhaps we should look at extending the season ? Just think that midweek/early week games are making a bad job (attracting crowds) worse

I remember last year and the EA Sports cup/Derry fiasco happened when we were playing in europe - fortunately only in Wales but three away games in a week (Thanks to FAI muppetry). God help any Irish team that makes it to the group stage because the FAI wont help them.

Then the majority of clubs end up paying players for the extra time. Even the full time clubs would suffer as contracts often run out at the end of the season and may not be renewed until closer to the following season.

I missed my first match last night. Most people just call it the East/Ultras stand and the Main stand.
Did it really look only around a third full?! You'll see the main stand on MNS or video's I'm sure.

There was less in the main stand than the new stand, at kick off I though the crowd was just over 2,000 but a lot seemed to come in late and that 3,000 odd looks official and it did seem very similar to recent games that were just over 3,000.
Quite an alarming slide in crowds for Wexford - off topic the excellent 'When Saturday Comes' (uk mag) has a full pager on them this month. Good article too.
Agree 100% re mid week games, waste of time in this league, esp if you have 2 home games in a row, it really is hard enough getting fans to pay in once every 2 weeks, never mind twice over 3 days.
Why not extend the season by 2 weeks and just keep these games down to 2 holiday weekend fixtures ?
We got 3,000 last friday and 1,300 less 3 days later, granted the Bray support v Bohs is not a good comparison, but the point still remains. People just dont have the money/interest for mid week/twice a week games.

Alot of people cant make midweek games beacue of work/college commitments or even travel arrangements, Monday night games are a bad idea and this year sees a few more than last doesn't it. But to even throw up agmes v teams across the country doesnt help. We had to play Galway away and Sligo away Easter weekend where as every other team had one away, one home. Why cant they keep loacal teams v local teams in these midweek games if they are a must. ie perhaps Galway v Sligo on Mondays, Dundalk v Drawda on Mondays, and the Dublin lot v the Dublin lot
Have to add my agreement to everything Marinobohs, Dodge, oriel, etc have said regarding Monday and Tuesday night games.
I'm no master of economics but if the season was extended, with all or most of the games played at weekends, surely the resulting bigger crowds would cover the wages?
It takes away from atmosphere at games also.

Say the average club has 4 Monday games a season (It doesn't matter - the numbers scale). Extending the season by four weeks would cost something of the order of €20,000 in wages (assuming €5k/week wage budgets - throw in other costs and I'd be surprised if that figure wasn't very conservative figure for the Premier) and you need to get an average of nearly 800 extra punters to two games (you're away on half of those 4 extra weekends) to break even. I really don't think it works out.
The clubs in this league don't pay their wages with gate receipts. There just aren't the crowds for it.
It just needs better planning. Setanta and european games are never ever taking into account when they draw up fixtures. Since the first week of the season Pats have played twice a week every week 9bar 2 postponements). There'll be times in September when we'll go a week without a game. Why the need to get postponed/re-scheduled games played so soon?

Playing Setanta Cup games on weekends was a terrible idea. They still get **** crowds and league games (affecting twice as many clubs) get shifted to midweek instead with crowds down overall.

Is anyone surprised about the fixture congestion, a week before kick off nobdy knew for sure who was in what division! Monday nights are always going to be difficult, unless they're a regular date for a club. The weekend excess takes the guts of you wage so the last thing you want to end up doing is taking in your second game in 3-4 days when you've got to work the next morning. However I can't see the solution to it - especially as extending the season makes no real financial sense.
Well if its planned properly it isn't extending the seaosn. its just a longer season (can start earlier if they wish...)
As they showed by switchng Cork and bray, they don't need to know all the teams involved. just those involved in europe and setanta

Agreed, The FAI need a kick up the arse for messing around with the league fixtures this year ie monday night games/ sunday afternoon games.
The best time for League of Ireland games are 1-Saturday nights, 2 - Friday nights, in that order.
we've enough trouble getting people to the games without shooting ourselves in the foot by playing games at times that discourage people from going !!!!!!!

I suspect that price is not the primary issue. As I recall extratime report on season tickets declared Bray the lowest cost in the premier division. Presume match day tickets are not above €15? Would lowering this to price to €10 increase attendances by 33%?
Promotion and marketing is where the sustainable returns are. Price may play a part, but is rarely the exclusive answer.

Could there be a situation where Shamrock Rovers are the attraction in every single team's biggest gate of the season in the Premier Division this year?
Obviously it'll depend on what's to play for in the final round of games, but thanks to the huge Rovers travelling contingent, the Leinster based nature of the league and things like the poor Dundalk v. Drogheda crowd earlier in the season, right now I'd guess that Sligo, Pats, Galway and Fingal all had their biggest gates against Rovers? Obviously that's just going off the top of my head from what I can remember (I wasn't at the Drogs game) but it couldn't have been far off.

Surprisingly, Pats brought the largest crowd to Oriel. Can't see Rovers beating it on Monday with the game on telly and game on a Monday night.

Last year our biggest crowds were 1/Bohs (3,800) and 2/ Drogs (3,600), think Rovers came in at 3,000 but can see that game being our biggest for Monday night. The TV and sunday match ruined any hope of a large crowd for the first home game v Drogs this year.

Yeah was thinking that myself, I think 15 quid is a bit steep these days - I went to this game, got the dart there, had a few beers (3) and went to match - had a hot dog and had only about 3 euros left after all that!!!!!!(Im a bit skint at the moment!) I don't mind as I like watching football but would someone else be persuaded to come back after all that?
Considering I want to go to 2 games next week as well - so that's 30 quid straight off the bat for tickets.
Wasnt it Exeter in England that had their biggest crowd in years when they had a pay what you want policy at the stiles
Anyway despite the poor crowd, was encouraging to hear the Bray fans singing in the second half, showed some real support - exactly what the LOI is all about
