How can you count "700-800 people". Was it 700? Or was it 800? Maybe it was 746? Or indeed 1,300? Sure if Galway United are faking the official figures, then the Club will be found out by the FAI and will be relegated and fined.
You'd think so wouldn't you, but ye did get promoted off the back of it last year, so obviously they aren't too pushed about sending their own men out to check attendences.
As for your oh so witty remark about counting, well maybe I should have said figured the attendence to be about 700-800 people, but I'd like to think that some day people won't be so anal on this website, obviouisly that day hasn't arrived

GUFC give official attendances.
There's no made up figures like some Clubs(Sligo-who just go 1800,2200,1300 etc etc.)
The anti-Galway agenda from Limerick fans is just coming to the surface again.
Limerick fans having a go at other Clubs!:D
Conor, I don't think the release of official attendances is the point, it's whether those that Galway have released have been accurate. Having been at the match the Limerick lads are referring to, I have to say that I was very surprised when I heard the official attendance that night as well.

surprised someone from your neck of the woods even managed to get into double digits, never mind 3 digits. 4 was always going to be a problem to you!

The 1700 average you have for Rovers is a bit high.
V Longford - Not sure, you have it down as 2000 but thought it was only around 1600 myself. Nothing offical on the ultras forum.
V Galway 1100 (this is official, posted on members section of ultras forum)
V Dundalk (league cup) 779 again official figure

Anyhoo, nice to see the first division average up so high even without Galway and Rovers. Would be a lot higher too without Monaghan and Kilkenny
Behave urself.....
Also our attendance was over 1,000 the other nite. Cant rem the exact figure but I know that there was a big Mons crowd as well as the brill support that Dundalk brought.

I'll start the Derry v Cork guessing at 3,000-3,200.
Substantially less by the end of the match.
What do Rovers fans expect the average attaendance to be when they (eventually) move to Tallaght. 1,700 is a disappointing average for a club which is historically the most successful. I would have thought they would have a much bigger following around Dublin

The weird thing is we're getting more away from home - 1,600 at Bohs last week, guts of 2,000 at Bray and well over 1,000 at UCD. Tolka is to blame - it's a dump and we're essentially still a Southside club.

That's a 30% jump on last season in the PD, and a near 45% jump overall. :) Reasons to be cheerful, or are there some factors in there not accounted for?

Ok for the moment lets say the 2000 for the Longford game is accurate even though I believe it isn't.
2000 + 1100 = 3100 divide by 2 = 1550 average.
Thats not 1700

A lack of Dublin City ahs definitely helped the Premier average to-date - but attendances are up almost everywhere.
Any thoughts on why this is ? My tuppence worth /;
1) The addition of Wexford and their healthy crowds has helped. Will be interesting to see if they're just a novelty or not.
2) A popular/inclusive club in Limerick is also having a positive impact.
3) Have the club promotion officers had that much of an impact so quickly ? Would be interesting to compare changes in attendnaces at all clubs with PO's versus those without.
Any other thoughts on why crowds are looking up universally for at least this first series of games ? Is the improvement in quality of the league actually starting to sink-in ? Are we seeing a follow-on from recent European results (City certainly are anyway).

Attendances are usually high for first couple of weeks & then drop off due to saturation tv expose to the CL & EPL but i does seem like attendances have held up this season.
- Shamrock back in the Premier
- Galway Utd in the Premier
- Wexford & Limerick 37 replacing DC & old Limerick
- Improved facilities at some grounds
- Reasonable weather so far.
- Live TV exposure?
- Demise of Shels meaning Premier title more open?
- Relegation of Shels boosting first division numbers?

I feel the high quality of ex-eircom league players in England this season is showing a lot of people that we have great quality at home that was unrecognized.

Don't be silly. DC weren't holding back attandances by 30-odd%
2000 + 1100 = 3100 divide by 2 = 1550 average.

I still had 1400 in for the Galway game. Changed to 1100, as mentioned earlier by NY Hoop for one, I think.

I don't think you can say the attendances have held up this season - they haven't really had time to fall back, and if you want to be cynical, they haven't hit the heights of the first day yet. They are up though, although I don't think the reasons you highlight above are overly relevant.
1) I don't think building a new jacks or what have you is going to put attendances up 50%, or even 5%. Yes, it's nice to see, etc, but people aren't going to go to games because the ground is a bit nicer. Leinster are the oft-mentioned case in point her.
2) Don't think so, to be honest. A lot of the games have been poor, by all accounts. Hasn't hurt obviously. Still desperately need a proper highlights show rather than 40-live games per season.
3) Don't really think this is relevant. In fairness, for the strength of Shels' squad, the title went down to the wire the last two seasons, with Shels not being involved one season.
4) Nope - they're just replacing Rovers really.
I think the CPOs deserve credit to an extent, and - God help me for saying this - the FAI. We've had Open Days, merchandise and season tickets given away (I'd be interested to see what proportion of the increase is kids getting in for free, for example), ads in papers, fold out fixture lists, loyalty cards and the likes. That all helps a fair bit.

Good man pete, nothing to do with our crowds that are the highest in the first div, 5th best overall so far, not to mention contributing just a little bit to mons best for the season ?

Don't be silly. DC weren't holding back attandances by 30-odd%Maybe not the full 30% but a large % of it.
If you analyse the numbers, particularly their home games against non-Dublin sides and compare against either Rovers/Galway who replaced them a substantial part of the increase could be attributable to DC.
Crowds really started to dip last year after the (insane) summer break. Lets wait until then and compare like with like.

Eh, still no, unfortunately.
Let's, for example, take Kilkenny out of the figures. The average would jump from 1545 to 1595 - 3%. Certainly not what I'd call a large % of 30%.

OK, you're still wrong.
Take off 2200, say (which is substituting two DC games @ 400 a head for 2 Rovers games at 1500 a head) and you get a decrease of 5½%. Still not 30%, or anything close. It's a help, obviously, but not close to explaining the whole increase.

From maybe 3-4 years ago our core support has probably doubled & I think we would get 1500 at any match now. We have a lot of big games in the league, cup, setanta cup & europe so only natural fans who can not attend all games will have to choose the best ones.
The closure of the shed last season affected the numbers as vocal support spread around the ground. I still expect the new stand to boost numbers this season.

5000+ at the Cross tonight.
Donie Forde(1900)- Around 1500 in there.
Derrynane(1185) - About 700 City fans and 350 away fans.
St Annes End(2800) - Around 800 or so in there.
Shed End(1600) - All seats taken and plenty standing on the steps and at the back so about 1700 inside it.
That adds up to 5050, Rovers always bring out the crowds.
