2-0 meant the leg was over. 3-0 means the tie is over I'd say.

We should be at least getting to the League stages, what with the domestic league being in such great shape......
Its Steau Bucharest ffs.
Did you throw your TV through the window in digust when Derval O'Rourke only came 4th last night?

even though i agree with your point, is that not a bit melodramatic...?
LoI did very well this year all in all. Progress is all we can ask for given the state of our league.
Hard luck Pats but Stena are a good team. No shame in that result.

I think we're punching above our weight in Europe.

no, no, i get ya. And agree.
I just thought that your response to the kildare fella was a bit harsh!!
This seems to be the level for LOI teams at the moment. Although no shame in losing to Steaua, they looked a very good side and are always in european competitions at the turn of the year. The key is to be consistently hitting this level for a few years and hopefully a breakthrough will come. Pats and Drogs werent a million miles off last year.

in a way, I think Bohs were closer than any team has ever been despite going out really early, when you see Ventiplis(sp?) from Latvia assured of Europa Group stages despite being beaten 3-0 at home by Zurich, it really could have been us.

played ok, out dept a bit... maybe if that shot had gone in from pats, cant remember his name.....steuea are a good team... i hope there is still a good crowd next week.. hopefully players still have some confidence... fitzy up front again, fabio on wing, did kenna learn anything?
Beaten by the better side. Once one went in we were all over the place which was worrying. Thought the selection from kenna was poor. Fitz up top was a bad call imo. On saying that if parto's chance had gone in we'd be talking a different story. All ifs and buts though.Hopefully get some sort of a crowd out for the second leg.

Hard luck tonight. As the saying goes "A bridge to far..." Anyway, I'm still going to head to the 2nd leg, hopefully Pats get a decent crowd and something out of the match towards the co-efficient.

Although Steaua were the better team, they did not really make Pats defend heroically, they were happy to have the ball but showed no real attacking threat, the only sign of that threat was towards the end of the 1st Half. Pats handed them the goals imo, no great or fantastic play from them. I believe if Pats played a higher line instead of this stupid deep defending is asking for trouble, they could have held out for the 0-0.

Get a draw in the home leg and you'll have done us proud Pats.
Remember - no LOI team has ever lost a home game to Steaua Bucharest. No pressure.... :)

No, they wouldn't as was proved by steaus first goal, they were caught cos they were too slow in the back left, that stevens lad at left full was completely out of his depth. If they weren't defending deep they would have been caught out over the top or out on the wings.
Whats disappointing again is that the organisation for steaus first 2 goals was poor, that free kick there were 3 caught out just looking at the ball. The first one was poor defending, nicualita or whatever he is called should never have got into that space out on the right wing, and should have been closed down quicker, with at least an attempt to block his shot on goal too. Its very disappointing from that aspect. Again fitness seemed to play a big part, something which in this day and age shouldn't be so far apart.

Why Quigley wasnt starting amazes me.
Someone said earlier on that the pitch was in such bad shape that Pats didn't want to risk injuring him or Dempsey.

The demise of Scottish football continues as last night Hearts lost 4-0 away to Dinamo Zagreb, the same team Linfield drew 1-1 in Croatia with last year. 3-0 loss away to Steaua Bucharest against a 5-1 home defeat to Sigma Olomouc or losing at home to a Welsh side and I think St Pats come out on top.
I think Pats should attack at the RDS, no point in holding out for a draw. And with a bit of luck might get the three goals they need.

I'd love to see Pat's really get stuck into them at home and just go for broke (even for curiositys sake, see what a LOI team can do against a top team), they wont win 3-0 or 4-0 but LOI teams too often show teams too much respect and are happy to just defend and hope to score a lucky goal, but saying that I didn't think Pat's would have made it so far, fair play to St Pat's for all the great results so far in Europe and good luck in the RDS

****** to the attacking chat. Pats would leave their back gate open for 90mins if they tried playing attacking football.
A draw is a good result for both Pats and the league, and will benefit both, so there's no harm in getting one.

So have Scottish clubs only got one co-efficent point so far (Celtic) , with Hearts,Aberdeen,Falkirk and Motherwell all receiving no points?

Motherwell came through two qualifying rounds before losing to Steau so theyve picked up some.

Motherwell won one of their games against Llanelli. They get free points for Rangers being straight into the group stages too I think.

Do you know how many the club expects to sell ?
You'd need at least 8,000 to stop the RDS feeling like Steau's stadium for the first leg, but I'd be shocked if that many turned up for it.
