Yes you're right, its been posted before. And yes St Pats will get one of those teams in Pot 6. ;)

Aston Villa would be best in my opinion. Would draw a bigger crowd and more interest. Cheap travel expenses! Easier away trip. Possibility of a shock if Villa put out a weak squad. The UEFA Cup doesn't carry much prestige in England where everyone is obsessed with the Champs League. St. Peteresburg won the UEFA in 2007 and then beat Manchester Utd in the Super Cup final.

Pssst, London is EAST of Derry. ;)

:D

D'oh ! :o I never did get that whole east-west thing sorted.

Derry's still in the north-east though, right....?

Depends what way you are looking at it Steve....;)

If pats get villa are ye up for driving up? Im working in north london so can get straight onto the M1 and onto the m25 quickly, if you can make it up to Colindale tube station....:D Its north btw....;)

Depends when it would be. Have my dissertation due in on 26th, and I've so far written about 3 words of the 15,000, so I'll be in panic mode up until 6pm on the 26th.....

Ordinarily I'd be keen to see any LOI side play over here. Though I'm still scarred by the experience of the 12hr round-trip to see Longford play in mid-Wales. The drive was fine - it was the performance that keeps me awake at nights.....

Just back from the match (Don't ask). The CSKA striker killed the game with his incessant diving. I could not believe that he didn't get booked at least. And then he went on to score. I'm ragin, but we did the co-eff proud by getting the draw at least. I'm so happy and proud of Pat's though. I went into the match last night thinking if we go out, at least Pat's have done it. I know it was a loss, but overall that must be the greatest result for an Irish team in Europe.

So happy for ye's lads. I'll try to be down for the home game. Is it allowed to be played in Richmond?

Good luck St Pats. There have been some remarkable journeys in European competition for League of Ireland clubs in recent seasons and here continues probably the most remrkable of them. Its a source of great pride that European competition progression for League of Ireland clubs is so remarkable and outstanding and long may it continue.

So fingers crossed this lunchtime. I'm taking a 12.30 lunch and tuning in on this one.

If its Aston Villa then that would be an incredible achievement and draw. Its one I definetely would want to be at as the away leg would only be down the road some 40 miles.

Whatever happens do enjoy.

now the Villa fans think cause they won a pre-season friendly 6-0 against pats before they will stuff them. Think they would be in for a shock. Think it would be a hell of alot closer than 6-0.

The schedule on sky just changed. The coverage now started at 12.10, they showed the draw room but no one's there yet. Now they're just repeating the CL draw.

Lads, again im probably going to get ridiculed, but I am going to put it out there anyway. Currently do players get any bonuses for progression or wins in European games? Considering the financial problems that are occuring and the sustainability of some clubs and their finances, with progression being made every year, if clubs can continue full time setups and make EUropa league group stages, could a way around keeping players wages almost to current levels(i know most see this as the problem but to keep good players maybe there isn't a solution to this) ,be bonuses for every game played within the group stages and more for wins etc based on UEFAs payouts. Its a bit carrot and stick i know and puts clubs under more pressure to reach those stages, but its a good incentive for clubs and players. I know one problem with that is a divide between top and bottom half of the league, but in the short term it could work, becuase maybe in the longer term if clubs were progressing and playing bigger teams week in week out attendances for LOI games might increase etc etc, merchandise sales increase blah de blah.

That cska jersey is puke.

I am getting a bit fed up with being 'nearly there' - how many times in the past few years have we had a team only 1 game away from the group stages (CL or UEFA), only to bow out (normally after a loss & 'creditable' draw). :ball:

Three... I think.
Pat's v Hertha Berlin.
Derry v Paris St Germain
Shels v Deportivo

What's remarkable with Pat's is that they're struggling so much in the league. Very odd and unprecedented.

Congrats to pats on getting through.
I'd say that keeps kenna in a job, for now.
A tie against villa would be the money spinner, a tie against Odense could get you through.
best of luck either way.:)

I suppose reducing it to five possible teams gives you an extra couple of hours to plan the logistics of the trips?

Because then two big teams might be drawn against each other and both wouldn't get through. European football is designed to allow the rich clubs get richer and richer every year - that's also the reason that the UEFA Cup introduced group stages - so they can milk as much money out of it as possible.
