OK lads, how about it in advance of the new (delayed) season...
Predictions? I know we're all a bit all over the shop with squads etc, but it'd be interesting to do it now and again in a few months time...
Prem:
Between Gratts, Kinsale and Wilton. Is it just me or have Wilton been very quiet... I'll go for neighbours Kinsale.

Far from me to cast aspertions on your charcter Olli, but it dose begger the question, how do you exactly expect clubs to survive on a weekly basis with out so called script.
Sponsorship,,,,,,that my friend is an added bonus that all clubs get a little pick up from, the mainstay of each club is script along with a weekly ticket draw, views would be appriciated,,,,,,,,,,,,
One thing we do every year is a local Church Gate collection.. You need to approach your local Parish Priest to get a date and then get a permit from the Gaurds. If every club member is willing to give 20/25 mins of their time on a Saturday evening or Sunday morning to collect before Mass it is a great success and a nice earner with very little organisation needed.
We have been doing it for years. It's amazing how many old fellas stop to tell you about when they played for the Vale in the 50's/60's and give more than they probably can afford.

Hi Doug, yeah ye've "caught" me a few times with the church-gate collections. I know Innishvilla do them as well. For fundraising though we are currently having to go to different levels than normal, with the cost of buying the land and developing it all on the clubs own back, no major FAI or Gov grants coming our way yet!!!
We have the typical/usual golf classics etc but that money is set aside along with membership for the day to day expenses. Our main fundraisers have to aim bigger... We've done auctions, the first was amazing, we had so many people at it. It was well run and it was great craic. We made over €20k from it and a great night was had by all. We did it again but unfortunately it clashed with a few other events, but we still brought in about €10k. Our main earners is a restricted members lotto draw, very tough to run and takes an awful amount of set-up and management, but it is a serious money earner... This is not a weekly club lotto, it is based on a national lottery and Euromillions syndicate.

Can you give a bit more information on the auctions please, thats a serious amount of money raised.

Inishvilla,

Yes it was a great fundraiser, now I think it was in 2005 when we ran the first one, no sign of recession then. But the local community really got involved as there hadn't been any other club or group had done it in the locality, that was a great advantage, it was "new". I think at the time we had our plan for the new pitches etc on the table so it was easier to explain to people why we needed the cash/lots donated. If it was just for the everyday running of the club, I don't think we'd have done that well.
I think we charged €5 @ the door for a brochure. The place was open about 2 hours before the lots started selling but the most important part was the auctioneer. We got a local guy Paudie Palmer, he commentates on 96fm for some matches but he is a real character and really was excellent. We knew we were onto a winner when he let people know that the auction was not for people to get bargains, there were vouchers worth €100 that were sold for €150!!! We had about 120 lots varying from DVD players, up to signed and framed Man U jersey (went for €1,000) and everything in between. Highlight for me was a signed Innishannon AFC jersey from the last game of the previous season (club renamed Innishvilla to incorporate the underage structure) sold for something like €250, and two Cobh Ramblers players arrived down after training, half way through the event with a signed jersey that Paudie managed to get about €300 for if memory serves me...
Anyone looking for more info send me a PM and I might be able to help out...

Yeah just saw that there now - automatically thought he wasnt there when he wasnt playing upfront
So Keegan aside and lets say Keith Kelleher has gone to the MSL too it looks like from an attacking point of view the AUL panel is seriously weakened - anyone new look like would be able to fill the boots of those players
Alan Greaney is playing with Kilreen this year from Glenthorn last year the new AUL manager would do alot worse then giving him a shot. Jason Forde Blackstone another very good attack minded player. Just 2 off the top of my head who could fill the gaps.

Didnt hear anything about it but I'll be speaking to one of their players in work tomorrow. They were back training the first week of July and seemed to have decent numbers
Update - this is in fact true!! The Leeds first division team is being promoted to Premier A - dont know if that means they are withdrawing the first division entry or what

Blackstone 1 - 1 Kilreen - played on Saturday in Monard - The two players mentioned did well - surprised to see Alan Greaney playing first division but he has friends there so why not! That is how clubs progress afterall when they attract players that probably should be playing at a higher level

Iv seen Jason play over the last 6 or 7 years with Hillinton an Marys before that an he alsways seemed head an sholders above who he was playin against or with.Hasnt had the best of luck with injurys either but i think he would definately be worth looking at. His best postion would for me be play in the hole so to speak but with the Aul it always seems to be 442 an I cant see where in that formation he would play in front of a more natural winger or center midfield.
As for Greaney, his ability has never been in doubt,Hes quick has bags of skill an is a real handfull for any defence but has a tendency to get involved with the ref if calls arent goin his way.But for the right manager maybe he would be worth a go,wont know till someone tries

Even if it were to stop right now... I figure there will be a lot of pitches unplayable come the weekend...
Forecast for remainder of week is improve by weekend but I'd guess that will be too late for a fair few matches, with more rain due today and tomorrow...
The most accurate weather site I've come across is www.windguru.com (http://www.windguru.com) - Very very little rain forecast for this evening & tomorrow. None fridy or sat but god help any teams tryin to get a game played sunday morning!! Looks like its gonna flood more than a few pitches...

Was talking to Club Secretary yesterday... He's also heard the rumour that the strike may re-appear this weekend again!!! Lets hope not!!!
Also looking at the statement from the referee's does it more read that the disagreement has not been resolved just that the referee's have agreed to continue refereeing while the dispute is being resolved
"
The CORK BRANCH of the I.S.R.S met on Monday 24th August. At this meeting the Branch committee of the Cork Referees received the full backing from the 90 strong memberships for the stance that was taken to withdraw services. The Cork Branch of the I.S.R.S. have decided to enter into the Dispute Resolution Procedure and have:
Agreed to provide refereeing services with immediate effect in all Leagues.
The Cork Branch have been working tiredly behind the scenes to resolve the current depute and remain positive that a resolution will be worked out between both parties.
The Secretary and Chairman of our Branch have been in Talks with Mr Gerry Mac Dermot of the FAI over the course of the day and informed him of our decision and he is aware as per the agreement we are available to referee as from 2pm today.

On the ref thing ,if we havent heard by now they wont do anything till after the weekend, otherwise they'd only turn the clubs against them.
With regards to the weather an the pitchs. If an if is a big ask it stay dry till Sat or Sun then the pitchs even the good ones will be very soft. Not one will be in an condition to be cut so expect it to be mud up to your ankles an grass above the ankle, hahaha.
At least we can offer our opponents a shower now at least afterwards.
Before I go,the new Aul ruling 'if you hav'nt got a pitch to play a game on or if your own is unplayable you have to play away ' it will be interesting to see what way that is dealt with this weekend if games are at risk with the weather

To be fair Littleman, the dispute is unresolved, so we cant really let it go. I hope all sides give a statement at the end of it, so that we know the history of it. The AUL seem to be getting the blame for it, which, with no reason to back up my statement, I dont believe is 100% true.
The refs panel published in May has changed slightly by the look of the fixtures and the refs.
Am I wrong in thinking that the abuse received by officials has relented in the last season? Maybe you could take that one Cork Ref?
I heard the story of a GAA ref a few weeks ago, who was caught be the throat at at the end of the game - im sure if it was a soccer ref, it would be in the papers, and rightly so.
To all teams, I hope you have a successful season (except maybe those in Prem A!!!) and I hope your club grows too.
A small match report, with a mention of the good players on the other team would help us help each other.
littleman
03/09/2009, 11:14 PM
Well Horse to be very honest there will be no strike. Why am I so sure,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
The Mfa/Aul and the refs have entered into talks with a view to resolving the issue. Both parties have agreed to abide by previously set down rules as to how this or indeed various other matters will eventually be sorted if the need ever arises.
One of these would be that while the talks are onging the refs continue to ref(all be it under protest).
Now you may well ask what happens if they cant sort it out between themselves, well then it goes to the Fai to adjudicate,an thats the end of the road then.
All the while the refs are bound by the agreement which there representitives signed to do with how matters like these would be resolved.
