Before I go,the new Aul ruling 'if you hav'nt got a pitch to play a game on or if your own is unplayable you have to play away ' it will be interesting to see what way that is dealt with this weekend if games are at risk with the weather

Can I just clear this up, are league matches now going down the route of cup games if your pitch is not playable due to weather/flood you give up the home advantage?

This seems extreme, I think it works great in cup games as "home" advantage is seen as that and now teams think long and hard before giving it up. But to lose home advantage in league games...

When we were pricing drainage in our pitches we had guys in that were seriously experienced, using a system that is used in most Premiership pitches, it looked awesome and cost an absolute fortune. Even they when asked about playability all they would guarantee was it would be playable 52 weeks a year but not 365 days a year (i.e. if we have a full day of torrential rain that no drains in Ireland can take).

Now we've put in some excellent drainage, so far the pitches are perfect despite the rain that has fallen, but to think you could loose home league games just because you were unlucky enough to have a home game the weekend of torrential rain seems severe... The teams based in the Farm will be in trouble as the groundsmen there are pretty quick to close the pitches!!!

I hope this rant is "wasted" as in I've mis-understood, the rule... When I read it early on on the AUL website I had assumed it was relating to pitches not being fit for play due to neglect rather than unplayable...

I think the idea behind this is to stop some clubs that play all their away games at the start of the season (saying their pitch is unplayable) & then at the end have a good run of home games that could win a league for them.

The AUL say if you know your pitch is unplayable the week of the game you must acquire a pitch,if you cant then you play away but it will count as your home game. What happens if your opponents pitch is unplayable?

The easiest way out of this is to wait till match day then call it off, although you'll still have to pay the ref.

i totally disagree we had to go to castletownroche last year, all the way down and they called it off, nothing has ever annoyed me as much, was a joke, i hope my team or any other team dont have to do that **** anymore.

You've misunderstood my point, we would never leave a team travel if our pitch was unplayable, usually we'd ring the night before, but this is not acceptable by the AUL this year,

What else can be done?

pacman
04/09/2009, 8:30 PM
I remember a time when we wanted to call off a game and the AUL would not let us(because a certain AUL official drove past the pitch two days before and thought it looked ok).

Instead they said it was up to the ref. Low and behold both teams arrived up and the ref called it off.

Cashman's normally wait til 4 or 5 games in to the season so they can get an idea of who's who in each division. How ye looking Dcross. My prediction of ye winning the league look likely? many players in and out?
I'd say we wont be too far off, if we can avoid bad injuries, tight squad this year, losing Greg Kelly to Mayfield Seniors was a big loss, but you cant hold it against a fella wanting to play a higher standard, Tossy's gone back to the Glen and Fabio's gone too. We got in a few handy players though but well have to wait to see the commitment, they played well in the challenge games but the nitty gritty of the league is a different proposition, but heres hoping. How bout ye, much comings and goings?

Anyone know of any team who has benefitted from this?! We were the other side of the coin last year with all away games left at the end of the season. In any case i think it's pot luck, especially for successful teams. You have so many cup games you simply try and fit in a league game when ever you can. That has definately been the case with Kinsale the last number of years. We would have loved a few home games in our run in but to no avail. That's the way the cookie crumbles.

The reason behind it was to prevent clubs tryin to pull a fast one by sayin they had a pitch sorted an in reality they hadnt or it just wasnt up to Aul standard(long grass,cows/horses ect ect an I speak form experience). Also rather than clubs admiting their pitch wasnt ready an needed to play away games an would rather play away games till it was, they would wait till the day of the game an just say the pitch was unplayable. We all know of clubs who have done it,an would of tryed it again if it wasnt fior the new rule.

Personally speaking I think any club that travels to a game in the Aul an the ref calls it off because the pitch is unplayable should get the result.Clubs should have a bit more respect for travelling sides, notin worse than knowin all week the weather is ****e an knowin when you get there all ya here is "it lashed out of the heavens for the last half hour".We have all had it done to us.

Enough of that now though.

Best of luck to each an every club this season in the league an cups.Their will be plenty of attention on the Aul now we are the Oscar champs so lets all do our best to prove we are just as good as anything else out there on our day.;)

Lastly,I'm delighted that Park FC will be the first club to avail of the new dressing rooms because in fairness it was always great to use theres an have a shower before the drive home, win lose or draw:o.Its kind of fitting that our furthest opponents will be the first to use the facilitys.Hope the game befits the occasion...............:).

We won 2 nil so first game out we have to be very happy. Those of us in the Prem all know that Park are a real tough team to play home or away so a win an a clean sheet is a massive bonus. Forgive me for not puttin a match report but Barry Peelo watched the game an hes doin the write up on it an it will be an impartial one, which is always better.

Only thing I will say is that as well as any team can defend very very well,am I thought we were top rate on the day you cannot defend a little peice of individual special skill by a player,an the Park lad with the over head kick that hit the bar was that .

We have won a game not a league so we aint gettin carried away, its a start but a promising start.

I HATE ELECTRIC PICNIC. We have a squad of 25, 16 very good players, 6 decent and the odd couple that just train with no interest in playing. We had 11 players yesterday for game against Churchvilla. We had 11 players at electric picnic. 3 on hols and 1 "sick".

Churchvilla were exactly as I expected, GAA players with a couple of talented young footballers that are no doubt being prepared for GAA. We went 1 up after half hour, they centred and equalised (Love when that happens), stroke of half time their big "full forward" scored a header from a corner. Second half they scored on the break. In fairness they were the better team but when they come to Monard and face our first team they'll be in for a better contest. Roll on corkbeg next week. As far as I know there is no stupid music festival to worry about so we should be back at full strenght.

Welcome to Premier A football - Not sure if any neutrals watched this game but if they did i'd be interested to hear their opinion - to be honest we started very well in this game and got caught on the break in the 15th minute - we played good football throughout and I thought we stretched macroom a lot - we created numerous chances but didnt take them - We equalised just after the start of the second half - We were pushing for a second when we were again caught on the break - Cant really criticise anyone of our players to be honest - thought everyone did very well - just need to be more clinical in front of goal and we'll be fine - i think the macroom management were surprised by what they saw - losing Jason Forde through injury the night before was a big loss - he gives us that something extra

A good start for The Glen in a section where all points picked up will be very important come next may. Am working today so just got the info from one of the lads. We went 1 down and Brendan Long equalised from the penalty spot. Shane Hurley put us 2-1 up with a header. Park made it 2-2 late in the second half and Hurley scored the winner with a rocket into the top corner from outside the box with a few minutes remaining. Roll on Mayfield next Sunday Morning.;)

Great win for Blarney Street down in Coachford. I noticed casilles had been quiet on here all summer and I was wondering if Blarney Street were quietly going about their business and not talking themselves up. I think they could be in for a really good season this year. If it hadnt been for a terrile start last year they could have challenged.

I assume they have brought in one or two players, not that casilles seems to be willing in letting us know, maybe littleman will know.

Good result for Grattan but I think we would have expected them to win this one at home.

Kinsale and Leeside a draw. Leeside probably the happier here I suppose. I think avoiding defeat is important in your opening game so maybe Kinsale arent too disappointed earlier.

Blackstone probably a bit disappointed, but losing Jason Forde was probably a huge loss for them.

Thats what we found last year making the step up from first division to premier A, we were dominating teams and end up losing one nil, I'd even say that the standard of football is the same its just Premier A teams are more clinical in front of goal. We won 2-1 against Rylane this morning, shocking weather, even our pitch which usually holds upwell, partly due to our "drainage system" cut up bad, were missing seven players so a good 3 points against a decent team.

Iv been quiet because im away with work all summer wont be home till mid Oct. but been keeping uptodate with comings and goings. Well as is well known Derek stepped down and a few left but we have a new managment in place who talking to the lads has brought his own ideas to the table, 24 signed and numbers are high for training, cit i hear is where were playing but dont quote me on that yet{ started down in pfizers but for the price journey and the set up it wasnt worth it} We will give it our bests ad usual and witha bit of luck we might be in the shack up hpoefully come the new year, which i think most teams would be happy with. Had an awful start last year 1 point from 12 so a good start is defentily needed. any ways best of luck to all clubs and hopefully we will all enjoy the good the bad and whatever comes in between;)

The first part I can understand - part 2 and 3 look like an attack on people?

Llyod Leahy and Jason Forde plus Mark O Mahoney but i didnt - do i think they could have made a big difference - yes i do - but do i know if macroom were missing any then the answer is no - however i did know that certain clubs were going to suffer due to electric picnic. lads as we all know there are fellas in clubs who dont give a toss - and tell you at the last minute they will be missing

People come on here Littleman to give their opinion - i try to be as honest as I can without

Littleman,

After agreeing so many times in a row, we were bound to diagree on something!

On the refs thing, I get what your saying about the dispute resolution, but, it aint over until its over, so I would like to keep it live.

You and others commented on guys mentioning missing players. i think it actually helps us understand the result more. - If they are missing some, it doesnt take from the win of the opposition, but it lets us know that maybe the true team may not have been out. The again, we all know that soemtimes the bare 11 play a better game than a full squad - eg our game against Wilton last year.

Poor Mr Olachico disnt take our defeat well it seems...........I like that!!!

Littleman I wasnt suggesting that you do your journalism degree - I'm aware that sometimes my posts can be long winded and lose the point but that one was downright impossible to understand - if you have something to say just say it - if you have something to say about someone or a club just say it

That one just seemed like a bit of a riddle

Lads, just a quick comment about our game yesterday, after all the shenanigans lately with refs dispute etc. I must say that the man in the middle for our game v Postal delivered a top class performance, spoke to players when needed, played advantage when it should be played and generally went about his business very effectively allowing both teams to try to play ball as teams should be allowed to do. There was a few yellows issued for verbal which neither team could really complain about but hopefully more of the same going forward.

Not the best of starts to the season for us last weekend.First team beaten well by Grattan and B's beaten 3-2 by Glen Celtic.
Grattan 2-0 Park
Unfortunately due to work commitments i couldnt make this game. Was looking forward to this game especially with the new set up in O Neill Park.
From what i was told Littleman, everything about the facilities were superb and well done for this. Its great to see more and more teams expanding and building on.In this day and age its a pure joke getting changed in portacabins with no showers.
Played some good football but had no answer to the Gratts.Strong in every position and played some great football. Our polish striker Swalvik had our best chance when his over head kick came back off the bar.Had our near starting 11 for this so a lot of work to be done.
Another tough game on Saturday vs Kinsale.
Glen Celtic 3 - 2 Park B
Sorry lads,i see alot of ye complementing the refs over the weekend but anyone at this game will have seen probably the worst performance from any fella in the middle.
We took the lead through Brendan Wiley after 20 minutes. The Glen equalised 10 minutes later but was ruled out for offside, although their striker was at least 3/4 yards on-side.
The second half was 3 minutes old when Glen's midfielder took a long range shot. The ball came off the hand of Glen's midfielder and somehow the ref deemed it hit our player and gave a penalty.Every one was amazed including the Glen players.Their midfielder made no mistake.
Glen went 2-1 up.Another offside? definitly this time.
We pulled it back to 2-2 shortly after but there was another twist when Glen's winger hit a screamer into the top corner 3-2.
Moments later the long whistle blew.I approached the Ref straight after thinking it was a very short half.He showed me his watch and it read 39:44.I asked since when are we playing 35 mins a side and he runs away with no answer.
These kind of mistakes can change a season for any team.Lets hope we have a bit more luck next week.

i will always remain unbiased, i look after the schoolboy section in the club and was there saturday as a spectator, not involved with the team. ya both deserved to be sent off, was a late challenge by our player but did not deserve the head butt. sayin that ye did have 6-0 in the yellow card section i think.
