With word spreading Gibson might be sold, some fans have come out of the woodwork it seems. Lots of folk on this forum hoping he is kept or at least thinking he has a lot of potential:

There hasn't been a bid for O'Shea; just for Gibson and Wes Brown, as far as I know. The report that O'Shea was part of a transfer was being played down by Sky Sports News earlier.

Well, seems to be Gibson, Brown and O'Shea now, it's on SSN and the Guardian.

Yeah being reported all over know - think the confusion may come down to O'Shea's unwillingness to move to Sunderland.

On Soccernet too now.
SundIreland is back? Maybe they will hire Brian Kerr.

JOSH will be a good person for Meyler to look up to when he finally plays for the senior team and gets criticized.

Brown can go, well past his best,( moscow 08), just a liability now. Gibson, give a loan inthe premiership and really see what he is about, fergie seems to rate him, well at least i taught it. OSHea, ya cant, his versatility and experience is priceless. no nonsense no fuss player. CLASS

Too bad he couldn't make the breakthrough at Old Trafford, but he's still young and this will give us a better chance to see what he can do when given consistent playing time.

If he gets to play with Meyler on a consistent basis and they play well together that could be a very good thing for the Irish midfield as well.

If O'Shea goes as part of the deal do you reckon Bruce will use him as a centreback?

I hope so, as Bardsley seems to do ok at RB there. As long as O'Shea doesnt settle into a holding midfield role, thus keeping Gibson out of the side, I will be happy, even happier if O'Shea were to stay put.

Surely Meyler/Cattermole will be the holding player alongside Gibson?

Yeah, true enough, I was more after the irony of it if Gibsons move to secure first team selection regularly were to be thwarted by a player who went there with him, and another Irishman at that.

As good a move as Darron could expect, but deserved it at the same time.

Trap will surely take some credit :)

If the move actually brings his game along some, 'visionary' will surely have to be added to Trap's list of credentials.

He has his Premier League winner's medal from the season just passed. He was lucky to play as many games as he did last season, but United are set for a massive spending spree this summer so I'd say he figures the game is up for him. He may have won his last medal, but he'll be a better player by the time he's done at Sunderland, no doubt about it.

He might find it hard enough to get on the team IMO with Meyler, Cattermole, Gardner, Sessegnon & Malbranque also vying for the same position.

I'd hate to be discussing Darron's A-League credentials a few years down the line, that's for sure. What a disappointment Miller was. Swapping a bench in Manchester for one in Sunderland would be a disaster though, hopefully he get's the regular game he needs to push on. I wonder what his consecutive games stats look like thus far..

Personally don't think Meyler has any future at the club.

The club thought highly enough of him last year to secure his services until 2015. Injuries might be a concern but ability certainly ain't.

Not likely to join to Sunderland according to the local Sunderland newspaper.

But the chances of the Black Cats landing a trio of Manchester United players are now remote, with Gibson pricing himself out of a move to the Stadium of Light.

Free agent Vaughan became the club’s ninth summer signing this morning after agreeing a three-year deal following talks at the Academy of Light yesterday.

It lessens the pressure on Sunderland to sign fellow midfielder Gibson, with the Black Cats baulking at the Republic of Ireland international’s wage demands which would see him more than double his Old Trafford salary.

Instead, the Black Cats have made a “take it or leave it” offer to Gibson which remains on the table.

But he will have to backtrack significantly if he is to join ex-United team-mates Wes Brown and John O’Shea on Wearside after the defensive duo completed their moves yesterday.

And with Stoke City reportedly entering the race for Gibson, the chances of the 23-year-old completing a £6million move are receding.

Lord only knows if thats true or not but it would seem ridiculous if it is. I suppose it depends on what the starting point is but I doubt that was going to be peanuts at Old Trafford and everyone can see this is an opportunity for first team football not a money making move. Perhaps he's pricing himself out because he just doesnt want to go.

SwanVsDalton

Gibson would need his head examined if he's asking for 60k a week. If so, maybe he is pricing himself out of a move since only a nutter would pay it.

Is he even on 30k at Old Trafford? Even at Man Utd, that's steep for a bit-part player.

According to the Manchester Evening News Brown went for 1mil (due to chance of repeat injuries)and not the 4 mil mentioned in other papers. So 6mil for Gibson could well be right. Which of course would mean O'Shea went for 5mil. The same paper is saying Gibson will sign for Sunderland next week.

Could see this as the beginning of the end for Gibbo. Just never thought he was able to cut it and he'll have no safety net at a club like Sunderland. Its been a bit of a graveyard for Irish players in recent years and I wouldn't be surprised to see him added to that. Could see him being loaned out abroad this time next year.

He's 22 with 21 career appearances total. It's not controversial at all. Yes he has ability, so did Joey O'Brien but injury stifled that and hampered his development. I fear the same for Meyler.

Yes, but once he got in their side, those apps came pretty much straight after, up until the injury. He was measuring up. He can still make it but this season will tell a lot though. We are due a midfielder's career not falling by the wayside surely, you could make a decent eleven from those who capsized in recent times.

Sunderland made a triple offer to United for Gibson, Wes Brown and John O'Shea transfer window but, although Brown and O'Shea have since completed their moves, Gibson remains at Old Trafford.

Ferguson said: "He was at the point of going to Sunderland and somewhere along the line, I don't know exactly when, I think Sunderland moved the goalposts.

"I suppose their job is to try and save money.

"From what I can gather, they gave him an offer and then changed it. That annoyed Darren and I think he's quite right.

"If you can't trust them on day one why wait until day two?"

Ferguson admits Gibson, who has been left behind from United's tour of the USA as he looks to sort out his future, has been left in limbo by the collapse of the Sunderland move.

"Darron was undecided about what to do when we made the group up to come here - and we both felt he'd be better staying back," added Ferguson.

"He seems to be in limbo at the moment."

Sounds unlucky. Unless Fergie is sticking up for him to dispel any bad rep he's accrued to seal a deal. But I'd like to think Gibson wasn't making overly outlandish demands.

Maybe Sunderland changed their mind between making the offer and signing - in that time they signed Larsson, Gardner and Vaughan more or less on the cheap. Plus Meyler's getting back to fitness. Perhaps their interest in the move waned much more than Gibson's.

I watched the game last night and as the most senior player in the United team, with the experience of playing in a champions league semi final you would have expected him to stand out like a sore thumb at this level, but he didn't he wasn't even Uniteds best midfielder with Petrucci who hasn't even featured for united in any sort of game easily out shinning him and Morrison too.

I will cry if Trap brings him to the Euro's, It's bad enough having to see him at club level but at international level too it's depressing. I still don't see what trap see's in him or how he is still at United I really don't. He has the odd world class strike in him but even then it;'s about every 2 out of 10 strikes are like that. He's slow and can only pass the ball well when he's under no sort of pressure.
