I think he is saying Pilks has to decide whether he wants to represent ROI and Trap wont go chasing him. That' fair enough really, so long as its not a Trap dopey mis-communication in that Trap read something that wrong way like in many other instances and took it to mean he hasn't decided where his allegiances lie :D

On his way back to the Irish setup apparently
http://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/soccer/gibson-on-way-back-212617.html

That is great.think trap is completely right about pilkington as well he is welcome but he has to feel irish. congrats to trap for dealing with gibson in a fair way it seems a good shift in man management.we will have the mccarthy, gibson hoolahan axis someday!

If Trap can mend fences with Gibson then why not mend them with Andy Reid?

Didn't he play under-age for us though? Why wouldn't we have had the possibility even if he "is not our player"? Or is Trap saying we will be contacting him? :/

At least he's on the radar, I suppose.

Yep. I would argue that seeing as the last time he was involved in international football it was with us, we have the right to call him up. He can turn it down if he wants then.

(By the way, though, was he not called up for the Serbia game with Wes but was injured????)

Hopefully this shows that he can, if Reid can help fire Forest to promotion he will really make a case for himself

I think he might have been mentioned at the time, but I don't think an attempt was made to call him up.

Since he has already played underage for us I can't see why there is any debate on the matter. he has played for an underage team, what more proof of interest is needed. In my view it would be very presumptious for him or any other player to contact an international manager and instruct that he's to be called up. Call him up for a friendly trap and we'll see whats what

Charlie Darwin

Proof of eligibility isn't always requested for underage games, so he may have been able to play without producing an Irish passport.

But its proof of interest Charlie, give him the call up and then see if the paperwork can be sorted. The guy has previously played underage so i can't see why we have to wait for him to show interest, he already has. I'm sure a Granny Cascarino can be uncovered if needs be ;)

Charlie Darwin
01/11/2012, 1:25 PM
Well it's proof of interest years ago when he was playing in League Two. It seems he is definitely eligible through a grandparent but he'd still need to formally declare allegiance and file papers with FIFA. I've tried searching his twitter to see if he's said anything but despite being asked hundreds of times if he's interested he's never said a word. I suspect he is probably holding out for a chance at the England team.

the bear
01/11/2012, 1:31 PM
He probably is waiting for England. It might have been years ago but I think its definitley enough statement of intention. Give him a call up, which he deserves on merit, if he takes it great if he doesn't move on. We don't lose anything out of doing that.

On a side not I was watching Chelsea Utd highlights last night. A certain M.Keane made 2 howlers in extra time to lose the match for United, wasn't this the guy who had declared for us and changed his mind. dodged a bullit there:cool:

Charlie Darwin
01/11/2012, 1:37 PM
I think the point Trap was making was that he can't call him up until he gets his papers in order, and to be honest that should be the bare minimum amount of desire a player should show if he wants to represent the country.

Were the errors in the United game not down to Wooten? The first was at least.

the bear
01/11/2012, 1:57 PM
Do we know that he doesn't have his papers though?

sorry you're right it was Wootens header. Keane should have been sent off for a professionel foul but got away with a yellow somehow

Charlie Darwin
01/11/2012, 2:07 PM
I'm only going on what Trap and a couple of journalists have said, but even if he does have his papers I don't think he's shown any desire to represent us and was probably grateful his injury prevented him being called up in August.

As a left winger he probably has more of a chance of gametime with england anyway.

Will Gibson be in the squad for the Greece game after this turn around, or is he still injured?

Charlie Darwin
01/11/2012, 2:21 PM
He's back in training but that's no guarantee he would be fit so he's not in the squad. I think he will put his hand up for the next squad after Christmas, if fit.

Seamus doesn't know when Gibson might come back, a bit different from what Trap has said.

slightly different version in the Times: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/sport/2012/1109/1224326365212.html

Coleman, who said he hasn’t discussed the Ireland situation with Gibson, added: “We see each other every day at training, but it’s his thing and it’s not up to me to tell him to come back. It’s his own decision.

“I actually didn’t know the manager said that (that Gibson would return) last week, so I didn’t ask Gibbo about it, truthfully. It’s something that’s between them.”

Looks more like he hadn't discussed it with Gibson

How did he play?

Irwin3
29/11/2012, 10:52 AM
Settled back in nicely. Worked hard and made a big difference to Everton's defensive game in closing down and winning the ball back. Without him they lack someone who picks it up from the back four and passes it forward to their attackers. He was his usual self in this regard. One shot on target where he spun on the edge of the box only to hit a tame left-footed shot straight at the keeper. There were a couple of rusty tackles and passes and just before he went off he fell to the floor grimacing but he tried to run it off.

Hopefully he can get up to full fitness and not have any injury setbacks. Wouldn't be surprised if he is rested on Saturday away to Man City.

Starts again for an unchanged Everton XI. The 'injury' was just a knock to his foot. Tough game against Man City who have won 33 out of their last 36 home PL matches.

Just shows some lovely footwork and awareness at the top of the city box and laying off for Naismith to have a shot.

He's playing very well, linking midfield and keeping the ball moving. Just misplaced a through ball there but apart from that his passing has been excellent. Looks like he's gained a few lbs though.

Edit: the goal came from him winning a loose ball that he probably shouldn't have...

Everton are great to watch.

Played very well he really is an excellent midfielder lovely controlled neat passer very comfortable on ball as always and really disciplined. Tothink this time last year he was destined for league one!

he only got 6 on the sky sports rating.

Dependable.

"Showed some wonderful touches early on, but was bogged down in trying to track City runners for the majority."

"EVERTON: Howard 7, Hibbert 6, Jagielka 7, Distin 8, Baines 7, Osman 7, Gibson 6, Naismith 5, Pienaar 6, Fellaini 7, Jelavic 6; Subs: Heitinga 4, Oviedo 6."

4 different websites gave him a 6. hardly excellent

I caught the first half and Gibson was calm on the ball, strong in the tackle and played some intelligent passes. You can see why England's Phil Jagielka described him as a complete midfielder. He brings something to the Everton midfield that they haven't had in a while.

My first comment yesterday was based off seeing it in real time as it happened. It was very impressive. He was quieter in the 2nd half by the way but that's forgivable given that he's just back from injury...

That was sublime.

And he made an accurate pass forward pass along the ground at the end of it all. Such a move has been virtuall non-existant over the last few years for Ireland.

I hope he sorts out his differences with Trap and that he will be included and turn up for the next squad.
I can forgive his brain-fart of a decision one time but if he refuses to turn up again then IMO Trap would be within his rights to never call him up again.
Hopefully it won't come to that though.
