he has hit a few wayward passes lads.

I think maybe a little tired.

I wouldn't agree, competent no frills display, sprayed the ball about impressively in first 15 mins and a great second half pass to pick out Nani at start of second half.

I thought his first long pass was Bradyesque (no higher praise).

Ya i only saw the first 20 and hte last 30 but he hit a lot of misplaced passes for the last 30, in the first 20 he hit a ball towards the 18 yard line for scholes i think that went across when under pressure that was good.

he definitely hit a few shockers around the 75 - 85 min mark. tiring probably. hopefully he did well up to that.

I would compare him to a young Frank Lampard more than a young Scholes.Scholes was always a much more complete midfielder than Lampard in my opinon. I always felt especially in his earlier days that if Lampard didnt get a goal(which he was excellent at doing) he didnt really add an awful lot more to the midfield area.Having said that he has developed into an excellent midfielder as he got older but at Gibsons age he was far from world class

Just watched the game. Very competent performance against the German Champions on their own patch. He hit team mates with mostly all of his passes and showed neat close control on a few occasions. Scholes influence on him is developing

Ah yes but its this type of consistency we need in Gibsons game;)

He should be in the Ireland team ahead of Andrews in the next qualifying campaign.

disagree. Andrews showed in the two France games how strong he can be as a combative midfielder. Remember, he's still very new to the international game!

He still has a lot to work on, but I think there was more to like rather than be critical of from tonight's performance. I think a player can develop a bit more composure over time, but you can't teach a player to spray the ball around like he was doing in phases today.

It's just a matter of him developing that sort of consistent play over the course of a full game, but I think this can come with matches.

How do you think he'd do in a more advanced position, similar to the position Gerrard plays for Liverpool?

Wasn't young Scholes a striker not a midfielder?

Yes. He was about Gibson's age or a little older when he moved back.

Foley is staring for Wolves but no sign of Keyhoe.

Burnley are in trouble though if they do lose. htey haven't been picking up points lately.

Ward is too important to risk in this game.

Gibson assist, from his pin pointed inswinger free kick, for ManU´s second goal.

Keogh out Injured for the next three months. If I remember correctly.
Foley is having an awful time with Evra and Obertan not getting much cover from the midfield everything is going down Wolves right, Uniteds left.

Vidic straight over to thank Gibson for his pin point corner.

Howls of shoot from the crowd every time he gets the ball. But Wolves are closing him down very fast.

Ward is just rested.

Gibson involved in the third goal with a neat lob to Berbatov, who duly laid it on a plate for the goalscorer.

More like a late 2 footed studs up lunge which sent the Wolves player flying into the air. Must be that Derry streak.

Sounds lik he actually got stuck in this time. Involved in all 3 goals and a yellow card. Or how did he play overall?

That lunge was xxx rated.
My viewing was seriously disrupted by a poor stream, basically I could only really see the things they replayed.
He hit one shot so high, it reminded me of of Ali when he recited one of his poems about hitting his opponent so hard he went into space.

An Ali classic:

"Clay comes out to meet Liston and Liston starts to retreat,
if Liston goes back any farther he'll end up in a ringside seat.
Clay swings with his left, Clay swings with his right,
Look at young Cassius carry the fight
Liston keeps backing, but there's not enough room,
It's a matter of time till Clay lowers the boom.
Now Clay lands with a right,
What a beautiful swing, and the punch raises the Bear clean out of the ring.
Liston is still rising and the ref wears a frown,
For he can't start counting till Sonny goes down.
Now Liston is disappearing from view,
The crowd is going frantic,
But radar stations have picked him up,
Somewhere over the Atlantic.
Who would have thought when they came to the fight?
That they'd witness the launching of a human satellite.
Yes the crowd did not dream, when they put up the money,
That they would see a total eclipse of the Sonny."

I'm sure a man of the match against Wolves was a big F you to McCarthy, who couldn't get much out of him when he was there.

I wouldn't put too much weight on the Sun's star award.
He has a deadly strike from the corners, used to good effect last night.

Im not sure why Gibson would want to give a big F you to a guy who took him on loan for half a season and played him in most of the games that got Wolves promoted:confused:

paul_oshea

ya but he hasn't even feeatured on the bench since that defeat when ferguson said he would make immediate changes. He has not featured at all since then so ferguson obviouslly thinks or holds him somewhat responsible for that.

The Fly
19/01/2010, 11:39 PM
He didn't even make the bench for the derby against Man City. He will have to knuckle down in training for Ferguson to give him another chance.
For the record - I think he has been treated somewhat harshly. However, perhaps it will prove beneficial to Gibson in the long term.

How does Anderson get a game for United. Absolutely muck every time I watch him!!! Gibson is a much better player from what I've seen them do in a Man U shirt this season.

I actually thought Gibson did ok against Leeds, there were definately lads alot worse so if he has been made the scapegoat for that game I think its very harsh. Berbatov didnt even break sweat in that game

Less embarassing for Ferguson to drop the player brought up through the system than some expensive and higher profile Brazilian.

It's not often that someone wins Fergie over after something like that. He's usually loyal to the core members of his squad, shown by Berba getting a slap on the knuckles and returning again.

Could be curtains for Darron, but I think his time there can only be a good thing for us. It's not like he'll be phased in bigger matches down the line, and I'd say there's going to be a queue of Premier League clubs looking to sign him.

Its actually terrible to watch Gibson being treated like that, when he didn't play that bad against Leeds. Paul Scholes has had many nightmares this season and hasn't been made a scapegoat at all. His 5 minute cameo last night was heard to watch. Every touch of the ball he gave it away.

I think Scholes has been in the doghouse alongside Darron since he made those mistakes in the defeat to/against Fulham.

I think thats been the dilemma for Gibson. Stick it out with Ferguson and possibly be the new 'Fletcher' type player or look for a move.

Personally i would look for the move. He's 22 and a transfer to a big championship team or a middle position Premiership team could give him the game time to prove if he's got it to make it on the bigger stage on a regular basis.

problem is thou if he leaves 90% ofthe time you will never get back up to that level again.. i'd stay until next year and see what fergesun does with the midfield ala offloading players and whatnot

Darron back in favour today. He replaced Scholes for the last twenty minutes and got the assist for Rooney's second goal. A couple of minutes earlier though he tried a shot from 30 yards and Rooney was not too impressed that Darron hadn't played him in.

Very impressed with him today when he came on. Lovely ball to Rooney for United's second. And looked a gear above most players on the park. I can see him only getting better if he keeps this standard up.

Maybe Fergie wanted to give him a bit of a kick up the arse over the last few weeks. He seemed a bit layed back against Fulham and Leeds, and maybe thought he had made the big time due to starting a few games in a row. Glad he got his chance again today.

very impressed with him against hull. id never seen him run as much , albeit he only played the last 20 mins.
nice to see he had the confidence to ignore rooney and attempt an audacious lob of the goaly from 40 yards out(which nearly worked)- as hes always struck me as a player who has lacked confidence.
hes improving
