That sounds ok. Quigley, by his own on-the-record admission, had decided midway through 2012 that he didn't want to play for us any more. Bara got him into the office, made it clear he wasn't leaving and what was expected of him, and for the remainder of the season he was unstoppable. Hopefully if we get Spillane the change of scenery might bring out the best in him.

As Spillane is Under 23 a fee would likely be required for him to move to Sligo (or an agreement). We've traditionally been very on the ball when it comes to our due diligence as regards these transfers, though of course it's possible we've messed up this time around, or even decided we didn't want him.

Big signing.
I expected our squad to disintegrate but it's not happening. If Horgan keeps this up, I think most will be more than happy.

Never his biggest fan in the past (when the Forza boys were giving him player of the year cause he came over and clapped them at the end of games.....)
He was always a great player, you were obviously just slow in realising it. Big big mistake by Rovers not re-signing him...unless it's because of something like his injury has a high risk of re-occurring that we, as supporters, don't know about.

For the lad's own sake, I hope so. He has incredible potential but it seems to be going to waste at the minute.
Very talented technically, but shocking in terms of positioning so will need an old head next to him guiding him to improve there.

There's been very little spoken about him to be honest. It's like he's a forgotten man. Being cup-tied certainly played against him during the season as he wasn't getting much chances towards the end of the season. Didn't really shine with us mind but would certainly keep him on if possible
Pats re-sign Lorcan Fitzgerald and Daryl Kavanagh

lol just realised how that reads given we've currently just got three players. What I mean is even if we resign all last seasons attacking players I think we need a new striker (or two).

A good signing for Shels, Be great for them in the 1st divison with a run of games under his belt he could be a vital part of the promotion push. his performance against Rovers in Oriel in his first season was a joy and he ran them ragged, a bit of confidence and he will be a great addition.

Why hasn't a premier division picked him up? Well done Shels but i just didn't expect him to go to Shels.

Huge signing for Shelbourne. He'll be heads and shoulders above most players in the First Division.

Are you thinking of Stephen O'Donnell? McDonnell has broke his leg twice and barely played this season.

Still a quality player. Standout for Dundalk when they played in the play-offs.

He's always looked very good when I've seen him too, but with his injuries and the amount of football he's had, regular football in the FD at a club who can throw him a few bob (none of this "fully amateur" nonsense) sounds like a good deal. Could become a very good Premier player if he gets a year of football behind him as many others have before.

I'm not sure where you have heard he broke his leg, let alone broke it twice, but I can assure you he hasn't had a broken leg. He was out injured for a good period since his return from Celtic but not with a serious injury.
Its a good move for Stephen, and I wish him all the best with it. He could have signed for that lot up the road aswell.

I must be thinking of somebody else then. Did he not have one season-ending injury?

Setanta Cup Final v Shams he went off injured with an ankle injury just as he was dictating midfield and we were getting a hold on the match, it was a game changing incident. He was a big loss at the time. Last season was a disaster for every player, this season he had little oppertunity considering the first choice midfield we had. Good signing for Shels and would love to see Sam get regular football and see him back in Oriel one day.

Meanwhile, a small but vocal group of Rovers fans have got this embarrassing effort going - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Get-Danny-Ventre-a-new-contract-at-sligo-rovers/625636740816157?ref=stream
The glowing tribute pretty much sums it up - "Best sligo rovers captain in a while"
Could somebody from Cork confirm you've got Danny nailed down to a watertight contract - PLEASE. (:

News to most of us Dundalk fans!
He barely played cause of the form of Towell, O'Donnell, Shields and Mountney.

Town's Josh O'Hanlon over with Man Utd this week apparently following trials at Peterborough and Wolves. Bit surprised a club of that size are interested but he's a fine prospect and will probably go across to someone.
Drogs have signed Gavan Holohan and Carl Walshe. Holohan was at Hull prior to joining us. Walshe was with Portsmouth and then shels at the tail-end of last season. Any shels fans able to provide an insight?

Can't see them signing him, but all the same it's a big compliment to his ability, and the potential a lot of people see in him. I guess he won't be staying with us next season so :P
Don't suppose we'd even be liable for a decent payout regardless of where he goes then, given he was only with us for a short while?

Wouldn't say so. Couple of grand maybe depending on the compensation paid.

Not a Shels fan, but he looked completely off the pace and unable to get into the game whenever he featured
Holohan was with Drogs last season . . .

That's right, Holohan came in from Hull at the end of August. Only got 2 games in so don't know much about him.
I know nothing at all about Walshe though and can't find any reference to him playing games for Shels. What games did you see him in?

Training with a club doesn't necessarily mean the club are interested. They might just have be doing someone a favour, or they heard he's alright and figured it can't do any harm.

They were represented at the play offs so they've been paying attention to some degree. The interest from Peterborough and Wolves was less surprising I'd have expected that level of club to be keeping an eye on lads like him.

There's another one
whoscored (http://www.whoscored.com/)
Has a bit more content - analysis and previews, of the more popular leagues anyway (can be slightly hit or miss)
Each has their uses, I prefer soccerway for just the facts.

No he didn't. He's probably the first player most wanted gone this year. Best of luck to him though.
