He has another year to run. He will either go to Burnley or stay, but Burnley haven't decided if they want to pay a transfer fee.

I presume at 25 and being unproven outside of the LOI that it would be a low enough transfer fee. He'd definitely be worth a punt for any English side outside of the Premier.

The transfer fee would be whatever Burnley are willing to pay, assuming he doesn't have a free release clause in his contract. Burnley's dithering would suggest he probably doesn't.

In all seriousness, I'm happy with the signing. He has shown that he has quality and it's up to him to get it going again. He has a point to prove and a Fabio - Hughes partnership could really work out for us.

I think he is a good signing. I've always rated him as a player.

Has to be a first ever in LOI. Four brothers (Ryan's) all with different clubs all at same time. Also all playing PD bar one, the guy with Shels.

They will be next season, I think that's the point he's trying to make
Killian - Pats
Ryan - Rovers
Gavin - Drogheda
Sean - Athlone

He might be fitter than ever he's not at the age where he can do an awful lot of running. He always had all the talent to be winning multiple leagues but never the work rate.

He has won every domestic trophy available so I'm sure he's happy enough. He scored 20 goals last season, an incredible achievement given the terrible season we had. We'll be happy if he manages to hit the same again next year.

Does anyone know what Croly plans are for next season?

Is there only 2 of last years squad signed?

Barry Muprhy, Karl Sheppard

Ryan Brennan is a quality addition as are Simon Madden, Conor Kenna and Luke Byrne. I can't imagine much enthusiasm about O'Connor and Cornwall

Is there only 8 players signed in total?

Nah Nah Nah Nah

Don't they have quite a few players signed on 2 year contracts from last season?

The following players remain contracted to Shamrock Rovers for the 2014 season: Ronan Finn, Ciaran Kilduff, Gary McCabe, Jason McGuinness, Sean O'Connor, Mark Quigley, Richie Ryan and Eamon Zayed.
The club has signed: Ryan Brennan, Luke Byrne, Rob Cornwall, Conor Kenna, Simon Madden, Barry Murphy and David O'Connor.

Sheppard isn't signed but it seems like he is going to based on what he's said himself. I was dreading the announcement this afternoon and when I saw it was a double signing, I thought, "****, Gartland and Bradley."

Wonder where he'll actually end up? Bray or Drogs maybe? Wouldn't be surprised if we were in for him. Cousins has stated he's after experienced players and he's cleared out a lot of defenders from last year.

When Richie Ryan was signed, you offered the opinion that the contract was to end of season. Are you sure he is under contract to end 2014?

That was my 1st thought.....Would you have him back? I'm not sure he's what we need as our lack of pace has destroyed us in defense ever since TC took charge, John Lester, Chris Deans, Brian McCarthy......Even Des Hope was lacking in pace at times we need a mobile centre-half this season and no offence to Garto I can't see him being that.

I imagined it was at the time, but I heard subsequently it was until the end of 2014. The club seem to have confirmed that now.

He was never quick but he's a good defender and has always given it his all. He seemed to play a fair bit for Shels last year but I didn't see much of him. Get in someone younger and quicker alongside him and he may be a good addition. I'm not sure if he'd be bothered with the First Division if he had a choice though, and you'd imagine Shels would be trying to hold on to him if he is.

From what I gather the Shels fans wouldn't like to see him hang around but I could be wrong. Have heard a lot blamed him for very sloppy goals and lack of effort. His pace killed him and he would have been a high enough earner there too which going by performances didn't seem to sit well with a lot of fans.

Fair enough if that's the case, as I said I didn't see much of him. Haven't seen much of him in the past few years actually so I'm probably just going on how I remember him at LTFC and Drogs, he was always committed. I've no info to suggest we are in for him just that TC is actively looking for some experienced players and we need defenders.

Gartland was particularly awful in an awful Rovers team two seasons ago. In contrast to Shels fans, I think he did put the effort in, he just doesn't have it anymore. That major injury he got for St Johnstone really killed him.

Signs for Galway..?

Much as I'd love to see Russell with Rovers, that actually makes more sense. The FAI job looks like a pretty busy brief - I don't think he'd be able to combine it with full-time football in Sligo, but with Galway starting out part-time he might be able to squeeze it in.

@Sligo Hoops: I'd love if you're right about Quigs, but I'll believe it when I see an official announcement.

AS opposed to travelling up and down to Galway to train (even partime). Anyway who says he has to play full time football.

Always thought he was one of the most talented players in the League here but have often had doubts about his commitment. A player with that talent deserves a crack at a higher level but all the talent in the world still requires a shedload of commitment/effort when stepping up

At 25 its pretty much now or never for Ronan I would have thought

I don't think that's the case. He's been on trials at Championship/Premier League clubs before but hasn't been picked up, I believe because he's physically a bit slight by nature.

Gartland was not bothered last season with Shels at all.

Lack of pace would not be an insurmountable problem for an experienced centre back in a team that defended quite deep, but a lack of interest and willingness to do the basics, coupled with a blame everyone else attitude is more of an issue
