Elding signed for Ballinamallard today according to LOI Blog.
Strange choice of club for him

Not so strange - he'll be able to live in Roverstown and do his Fire Brigade thingy in Sligo.

He still won't be eligible until July though? And where in holy **** do Ballinamallard get their money from?

Clear some space for City Rebel outrage...........
Why any outrage ?
We don't want him anyway.
6 goals since the start of 2012.
Not exactly banging them in is he ?
I think Dundalk should have him :sarcastic:

A very well run club, fantastic playing surface (yep they have had it done up again since the setanta cup game), new 4g training pitch beside the main ground and a very strong underage structure.
They must have a fantastic fundraising set up.

I thought that the deep thinkers in Cork (like City Rebel) would be outraged at Cork being dismissed as not being in the category of title rivals to Shamrock Rovers
Karl Sheppard looks certain to move. Dundalk, St Pat's and Sligo Rovers (http://searchtopics.independent.ie/topic/Sligo_Rovers) are all interested in the striker, but Rovers will not sell to a title rival. Limerick seem his likeliest destination; Cork City (http://searchtopics.independent.ie/topic/Cork_City) are also contenders for his signature.

I'm quite happy with us being dismissed as contenders much the same way dundalk fans liked it last year.. we can quietly go about our business without the pressure and its been going well apart from 2 defeats we have since bounced back from

Exactly.. and I'm sure they liked it that way.. not saying were gona emulate their 2nd place finish but were up there at the minute and being dismissed which is great.. let's see where we are with 10 games to go and ridicule us then if were after falling behind

Cork are up at the top end of the table on merit. There is a certain snobbishness in LOI circles that says that only certain clubs should be considered as challengers.
It suits Cork (as it did Dundalk) to fly under the radar. Our performances deteriorated towards the end of last season when people began to name us as challengers.

The table always (or pretty much always) reflects a team's deserved position. Column inches don't matter a jot - the English media were telling all and sundry that Liverpool had the premier league wrapped up with 3 games to go! Same sort of hype happens everywhere.
I don't expect us to win the league this season ultimately, but I'm very glad that we're competitive again because for the last number of years no team south of Dublin has been.

Meanwhile, back on the very early transfer gossip/squad retention thread.. not sure about Karl Sheppard not exactly prolific but then again new surroundings and a little bit of faith can be a shot in the arm for a footballer ala kilduff.

Sheppard left on the bench tonight and Dean Kelly brought on when chasing a goal. One thing's for sure, he won't be playing for Rovers again. Absolute shambles.

It was said on the local radio yesterday that the club will make funds available to Taylor to bring in 2 or 3 in July to strengthen. It's possible we could be talking to Sheppard but I'd still think it unlikely enough. He'd be guaranteed a start though.

True but in Kilduff's case we were pretty desperate at the time so anything resembling a striker would have done.
It just so happened it worked with him.
Things are a little different now in that we need a striker with proven ability who can take us forward so we need someone who has been doing it regularly or has done it with us before.I know you might still be taking a chance but the situation is different.
The ideal situation would be to get someone on loan & if it works out then sign him permanently.

Forrester linked with EPL and Championship clubs for around £200k according to the Daily Heil:

Premier League clubs eye St Pat's star ForresterPremier League and Championship clubs are keeping a check on St Patrick's Athletic winger Christopher Forrester. Scouts are expected at Friday night's game in Dublin with Derry City and the 21-year-old is understood to be the main attraction.
Everton and Sunderland have a long-held interest but West Ham and Leeds have also checked on his progress.
He has chipped in with some spectacular goals notably a 35-yard lob against Drogheda last month and St Patrick's rate him at around £200,000.

Forresters would be a decent deal I think. Get add ons to it and it would be very good (something we didn't do with Coleman apart from a couple of international clauses - we were totally broke at the time mind).
People thinking League of Ireland players should be going for 1m etc are deluded if you ask me.

Pats would do well to get €200k up front. It's the add ons that could make it a great deal. LOI clubs tend to sacrifice these for a few extra quid up front.

I'd be delighted with 200k especially considering he will go for free in November

Nothing wrong with 200k in the coffers if can be got. From what I have seen Forrester can be a bit hit and miss. Moments of brilliance and some times he isn't in the game at all. 200k with a few add ons = happy days. The fees I've a problem with are the ones for under 150k where they are clearly taking advantage.

Ye would get compensation for him if he goes to England at the end of the season because he's under 23.

I think this is the case with players with his level of ability and what makes them dangerous - quiet, out of the game and then hits another goal of the season contender from nowhere. LeTissier or Coyle like. His problem is that he looks like he will break if tackled and needs to be on a weight training program if he isnt already. He would get busted in the English lower leagues especially. I think he is good enough for Pats to take a gamble on significant add-ons and sacrifice some up front payment depending on his to bulking up a bit!

Yeah i'm aware of that but that's spread out between all his former clubs- it probably wouldn't cover a weeks wages for the squad.

Pat Dolan rates him at €17m (maybe that is sterling too?), St Pats rate him at stg£200,000
If Chris Forrester is out of contract at the end of the season, why would anyone pay more then the UEFA compensation amount?

I'd say that's roughly the exchange rate between sterling and Pat Dolan's imagination.
