Mentioned the kids as some clubs dont include free entries in their attendances
Bus of 22 about 30 sitting round them and the rest not sitting in the away section. There were away fans sitting in the section where the kids were
I was sitting beside those away fans in our section. There was 8. Please dont exaggerate the kids bit either the figure you mentioned is not true.
Can we stop the pettiness now. Its a bit stupid for one badly supported club to slag another badly supported club about attendances.

Around 2,000 in the showgrounds.
I'd say 400 derry fans.

You had about 10 lads singing and id say another 20 or so adults around the stand :D
Dont you just love this league :D
You're laughing at their amount of fans when yourselves bring about 30 to Tolka?

If you had bothered to read the whole post then you would have seen that it was humours dig at the claim that they had over a 100 fans at the match.
Im not botherd wether they had 5 or 500 at the match just respect to those who traveled and put right to an inflated claim. Its no big deal.
The reason that not many Fingal fans go to tolka is that they dont want to pay €15 to a club who still think they are big time.
Calm down shels, its only light banter.

Ok that number the free list then. On health and safety grounds every kid that is invited to a game is allowed bring in an adult to supervise them even in Cup games when the gate is shared.
Everyone on here knows who I am and I have no reason to give wrong figures. I think we are lucky have the crowds we are getting considering how long we are in the depth of the First Division
Look forward to seeing the travelling fans in "The Woollen" next Saturday

How would they know? They've only been around since Shels were in the lower league.
In a very tough field, I reckon this is the most rubbish "excuse" yet for people being lazy

And I think we are lucky to have the second highest crowds in the league considering we are only a year and a half old.
There wont be many away fans. I still think its quite sad how you are having a pop at our crowds when we are both badly supported in general. I guess its sour grapes over the defeat. Childish really.

No sour grapes never expected us to win didnt even have a bet on us this week after having three very large bets the 3 previous games against Shels, UCD and Monaghan.

How would they know ? :D Ye, our fans just found the eircom league after Sporting Fingal was formed and its the first we heard of Shelbourne.
Charging Premier division admission prices for first division games is a disgrace. They should wait until they are promoted first :D

TBF your crowd only improved because of the Patrons Scheme but yet Fingal are higher.

I doubt our crowds would be much different in the first if we lowered the price so I dont really see why we should. Theres not going to be much of an away turnout at tolka for any team in this league no matter what prices we charge.

Could you expand on this a little? I mean where exactly were they before Franchise came about? Just floating from ground to ground is it, ala Mad Tom, waiting for just the right Franchise to pop up.

Then why the dig about crowds. Seems like there was no need for it and yet you had a go anyway.

Trying desperately to not support shels and end up becoming some bitter little football fan who blames everybody else for their problems. (not all, i know;))
Isnt it amazing how when a little argument between fingal fans and another club pops up, there is always a shels fan waiting to join in and have a go. Quite funny really.

Id say the cup games attendance was about 1800, with about 400 Derry fans.
The Jinks holds 800 and Derry had just less than half if you take into account the barriers.
So about 1800 id say.
And BTW the Derry fans did have access to the Shed End if they didnt have enough room in the jinks, and if thats unsuitable I dont know what your arguement is when they put 700 of us out on uncovered terracing the last time we played Derry in the cup in the Brandywell.

Are crowds up or down across the league this year?
Has the recession hit the crowds or has the LOI been fairly immune to the recession hitting the gate (not talking about sponsorships)

I mean, this time last year. For instance if the Irish League compared average crowds from the whole last season to the first 3 matches of this season. The average support for Glentoran will be 4000-5000. Which is obviously skewed massively from last nights game.
So from this point last season, how are the crowds holding up.

FD is an average crowd in the First Division; PD is an average crowd in the Premier Division. I've only put that in where the attendances was when the club was in a different one to their current division.
We always get a great crowd up there for an F.A.I. cup game Steve, so that may even be an under estimate.
We sold 2,000 for the cup semi 3 years ago up there in October time, so after our demolition of them on Tues we should get at least 500.

Down a wee bit, but too little to worry for now - probably within the margin of error for estimates.

If anything I think this recession could help imrove the crowds to some extent.
People being alienated by the consumerism of the EPL.
Or maybe thats just wishfull thinking.

Not at all.
Firstly - people have less money to spend on higher value pursuits, weekends away etc etc, yet still want something to do of an evening and some form of entertainment.
Secondly - there's lots of academic evidence from this recession and last that consumption of culture and entertainment generally goes up (e.g. cinema, museums, art galleries, inexpensive restaurants/delivery pizza etc).

My estimate seemed to be perfect.
It would not have mattered what the result was on the tuesday as a 1-0 win for Derry probably would have got the same away attendance but obviously a bigger home crowd.

Well it was about 800 more than the equivalent fixture last year and is a reliable estimate rather than the fantasy figures from Tallaght.

A friendly against a Liverpool XI from which we got about twice what you lot made from your Real exhibition, because we ran it ourselves in our own stadium will help with that, thanks.
I would have thought 3500 max in Tallaght last night, Yea the westend stand was pretty full (The parts that they were allowed to open) the east end stand was sparse in a lot of places and with one of the worst travelling support I have seen from Dundalk all season.
I would doubt it was anywhere near 4500 though

Curious to know why that is, Dundalk fans? You usually bring good numbers wherever you go, and Tallaght is pretty handy to get to in fairness.
Maybe it was the rail line collapsing?:p
