Disappointing crowd alright - hopefully it's back up for the Cork game next week (although our result this afternoon might have an influence on that).

Pats v Derry was 2,0XX (forget the exact number - around the 60 mark)

Pretty good for the day that was in it (CL and torrnetial rain)

Be surprised if half come back after that performance

Mind you, your eastern European stewards told us it was sold out when we tried to get it.

good crowd in bray yesterday, about 1300 for a sh!t kick off time of 4pm, sure half of bray was probably still in work at that time, it was not even a public holiday and they played it early, absolute joke! Decent dundalk crowd about 500-600.

we should have a good enough trabelling crowd, havent played in dundalk in years so there will be a novelty factor and school kids/college people have easter off. im looking forward to it

So am I. But will it take place? That's the question.

Any estimates for the Drogheda Galway match?

Over 3,000 at our Cork game. Wasn't full capacity even though it sold out days before (I'd say at least 300-400 season ticket holders didnt turn up looking at pictures of the stand while taking into account the overcrowding at the Ultras sections... Is a shame as people are missing out - working on setting up a season ticket text service to see who's not coming so we can sell their seats.

PS BohSoGood: Irish Media? What are you talking about? Look up the effects of the term global warming before offering your uneducated opinion; ditching the opinions of 95% of the worlds Climatic Scientists... (It doesn't necessarily equate directly to warmer weather, I study it in college)

This was covered in a memorable thread in Current Affairs about a year ago.

Boh_so_good, in reference to your signature, 1998 was an El Nino year, 2008 was a La Nina year. Therefore it was expected than 2008 would be colder.

superfrank
13/04/2009, 5:47 PM
I'd say you're way off with that one.

The stand was probably half full, at most. Only a few people scattered around the ground too. 800 is very generous.

are attenedences up this year?
Yeh by about 30%
They're really not. I made the relevant argument here (http://foot.ie/forums/showthread.php?p=1127518#post1127518).

I'll just update the figures:
After week 5, we've a league average of 1,370. The final league average last year was 1,221, which seems to say we're up 12%. However, the league average after week five last year was 1,727 (http://foot.ie/forums/showthread.php?p=916287#post916287), which means crowds are down by an astonishing 20% on last year. Caveats apply to numbers like this so early in the season, but crowds are not up by any reasonable measure.

John83
13/04/2009, 6:38 PM
Comparing to the whole of last season crowds are up
Crowds are always higher at the start of the year, particularly in round 1. Comparing the week 5 numbers from this year with the final numbers from last year doesn't really tell us anything.

pineapple stu
13/04/2009, 6:55 PM
But your point is invalid, because of what John83 has noted. So far - compared to the same few games last year, which is vital - crowds are down, not up.

Hundreds of empty seats near away fans section. Could easily have sold more away fan tickets too.

Was the same at our match too. Surely if a few people turn up at the gate willing to pay to get in you'd let them in? More money for the club after all and after all whats the use in empty seats? Was wondering about this during our game as you could have easily made a couple more hundred by taking a few at the gate, after all we shouldn't be turning away fans at league of Ireland games, ever.
