Longford must have no money at all, not like Wexford are big payers.

Clarke was pretty much flawless for Shels in 2021 apart from his first howler in the last game of the season against UCD which ironically Evan Caffrey scored. Duff dropped Clarke in the first quarter of 2022 in favour of an inexperienced Swansea loanee and Clarke was brought back and he immediately helped steady the backline. During the 2nd half of the season definitely a couple more errors and some poor positioning crept in from Clarke Duff clearly did not have complete confidence in him maybe he is thinking of age not sure myself if Kearns will be the solution or if they plan to sign another keeper to be number 1

Probably operating off a similar budget, I don't know. They had a decent enough squad last year. But James Keddy who was our assistant manager last year has gone there as manager and has now had a couple of weeks of a head start on Henderson in terms of talking to players. I'm sure we'll put together a squad that'll be in and around the play offs. That's about all we can really aim for anyway.

I think Wexford train in Carlow, itsnot the most accessible. Do Longford still train in Dublin ?

Wouldn't be surprised. We were training in Leixlip at one stage but not sure whether we'll still be there next season. It'll be within shouting distance of Dublin anyway, either way.

David McMillan departs Dundalk….

Was he FT for Dundalk? Remember he had a good job before he went to Scotland. Always been a fan of his. Surely someone will snap him up.

Thought McMillan looked very off the pace whenever he got a game at Dundalk.
The fact that they let him go makes it unlikely another big team will sign him i would have thought.
Drogs maybe if he lives up there ?

Done his job properly whenever he played for us.
Signed off with a goal,a set-piece rocket free kick v Bohs in late October.(goal that effectively sent us to Europe)
Scored a hat-trick v your side in the 2020 FAI Cup final(only 2 others had done that before him)
Top scoring player in Europe for Dundalk.(Maybe the LoI?)
Currently living in Dublin and is an architect.
A legend\dream of a player.

Never off the pace!

So if he's never off the pace why they getting rid of him!

I've heard from a boez fan I know that Burt is $hite. He wouldn't be lying to me now, would he !?

Burt's a great player capable of changing a game but is constantly kicked and as a result always has niggling injuries so will miss time every season. Unless of course the refs in the league suddenly start protecting him more because he's changed his jersey. But that would never happen!

There’s no doubting McMillan had a great LOI career but a lot of what you’re referencing is when he was at his best, which in 2022 he is well past. Since he returned to Dundalk in 2020 he’s scored 6 league goals in 60 games.

I would certainly call a record of 1 goal every 10 appearances a lot closer to being ‘off the pace’ than ‘doing his job properly whenever he played’

While Robinson is a loss, they're welcome to Hanratty and Lynch. Both honest lads but not good enough.

At least someone else shares the same thoughts as me.
Apart from his first 2 or 3 games Hanratty was not up to much.
Lynch is a decent left-back but I thought we looked better with Barker and McDonnell at center-back and Dylan on the left.
Robinson is a loss though.

Two good signings for Galway and Wexford.

Slevin is a good quality defender who came out the right side of a nasty injury spell at Cork. Wasn't without injury issues this past season either, but if he stays injury free he's a cracking player.

Are they going to pay a few hundred grand for him? Presume that's what Sligo will be asking for.

dan mcdonnell seemed to be implying rovers would stump up money for him, madness IMO.

on slevin, good signing for galway. annoyed we didnt keep a hold of him this year as he is better than some of the lads we played with this season but i suppose the bad back injury was enough to put healy off.

McMillan was superb for Dundalk, IMO his swansong was the hatrick in the 2020 cup final, to be fair that season he did score some big goals in europe earlier that same year, including the group stage.

From 2021 onwards he struggled a little, def picked it up from end of summer this season, and a big goal v Bohs to all but confirm europe, a classy player, made a massive contribution to the emergence of DFC as heavy weight from mid 10's, and for the recovery from 2021 - last season. He will go down as one of the all time great Dundalk strikers, and his place in history books for the club is secured.

His time was up though, and correct decision to release him.

I'd be surprised if cotter plays for Rovers again, and it's got nothing to do with his laissez faire attitude to defending.
My guess would be his Rovers contract is cancelled and he would be free to join Pat's or anyone else for that matter

He's been on the PFAI list for a few days so it seems so.

If they could hurry up with getting things done that'd be ideal.

Excellent. Of the first choice 11 and main subs at end of last season we now have everyone back for 2023 except Cotter (expected but not yet signed) and O'Reilly (back with Preston); plus Lonergan. Not a bad state of affairs on December 1st. Quite a few who weren't figuring will undoubtedly depart leaving a budget for 3 or 4 significant signings. Happy days.
