Harps have signed Cian Lynch, ex-Cabinteely forward who has spent the last couple of years in USA and Canada.


Harps squad looks fairly thin given the season starts tomorrow, I knew they would be a level below Waterford & Galway but the current squad looks barely good enough for a playoff spot

Squad of 20 players as it stands. Rogers said at the start of pre-season he wanted a squad of about 19 or 20 players plus a handful of academy lads, so we're not a million miles off. Reckon he'll add another two or three before the window closes though.

Defender Drew Baker on loan to Bohs from Fleetwood till the summer
It's going to be an interesting watch to see that Bohs backline with 4 import loanees though Horton had first half of last season with them, smacks of major sticking plaster stuff with 3 signed in the week before kick off

Apparently Connor and the U19s keeper are injured with Connor set for a lengthy time on the sidelines. A keeper incoming was anticipated and most definitely needed.

One of those three lads has been doing pre-season with the club in fairness but I agree with you. Shows you how few proven players especially defenders are available at the moment. They won't have to be great to be an improvement on most of last season's defence though.

Im sure I read in local press that Athlone Town have a foreign investor think it could be Portuguese.

One of those three lads has been doing pre-season with the club in fairness but I agree with you. Shows you how few proven players especially defenders are available at the moment. They won't have to be great to be an improvement on most of last season's defence though.

Also the likelihood of all 4 starting the first game of the season is pretty slim. It'll probably be Kirk, Horton, Byrne and Twardek as the first back 4 of the season as I think the first RB we signed went off with a concussion against Wexford.

I think situations like this will become more common in the league as players get signed to long term deals and/or head abroad. Certainly players making the move abroad more frequently recently or at least it feels that way

Wasn't there also significant Portuguese involvement in Athlone's glory period of 2017 when they brought in legendary imports to the league like Labuts and Sfrijan...

Bohs sign Polish defender Krystian Nowak who was last playing in Romania. Had a spell in the SPL with Hearts a couple of seasons ago.

Seems we have plenty of options in defence now! Ideally they would have come in well before the start of the season but looking at some other squads in the league it's certainly a case of better late than never.

Our captain Sam Verdon has been released after one game. He didn't have a good game but something has obviously gone on. Linked with Wexford, obviously. We're in for a long season. Gary Armstrong once of Sligo and Athlone has come in.

Reminds of Georgie Poynton signing for Pats to play in midfield in 2019, playing a Leinster senior cup game and then bolting to Waterford once Forrester and Rhys McCabe were signed. Speaking of Poynton, I don’t think he’s signed for anyone this season which is surprising

I was thinking he left Harps after 1 game.
Came back to us then.
In my opinion he wasn't as good in his second spell with us as he was in the first.

Barry McNamee and Bastien Héry probably the two most high profile from Harps last season.

Barry is supposed to be joining junior club Swilly Rovers in the Donegal League, finished at senior level because part-time income from football was affecting his mortgage application.

Héry trialled at Wexford, but presume he'll end up in LSL or something as well.

Joe Gorman is with Lucan. He was diabolical for both Treaty and Bray so maybe he has found his level.

Beineón O'Brien-Whitmarsh, John Kavanagh, Sean Barron, Aaron O'Driscoll also.

Why does Héry stay in Ireland? I thought he was a pro footballer, I really doubt wexford or any LSL team can offer him pro wages.

Another possible signing option is Ayman Ben Mohamed, who I think has been without a club since being released by Le Havre at the start of the season. He's had his share of injuries (two cruciate knee injuries), but would still be worth a punt for an LoI side.

i was expecting john kav to pop up down here in the MSL. Barron is back with avondale, no word on obrienwhitmarsh.

Only spotting Barron now, at time of posting he was unattached on FAI Connect.
He would be a great signing for Treaty with Conor Winn being so poor.

I heard a couple years ago. Hery has setup shop in Ireland with his missus and kid or kids. Or they had a kid on the way at the time. Think they have a house and the missus has a good job.

Hery is definitely permanently settled here, I read a good article last season on him and Dave Webster on their travels up to Donegal for Harps training after a days work

Was a regular in the Tunisia setup until he did his cruciate on loan with Denizlispor in 2021. Could have been looking at going to the World Cup. Instead he seems to have been without a club all season. Can't find anything about him. Not even playing for Le Havre II

We've signed goalkeeper Dean Lyness and defender Axel Sjöberg. The goalie is a replacement for Danny Rogers who damaged his wrist in the warmup last weekend.
