SOD signed a Maltese International for us that is possibly the worst player to have ever lined out for Pats. Hope for Dundalk's sake he's not that bad.

But for our sake that he is.

I don't think I saw the Maltese lad play for you but was he worse than Martin Rennie? He looked absolutely hopeless and iirc you paid a fee for him too.

Hard to know what is going on, as the accounts clearly showed just over 1m left in the handover from P6, but that was at the end of 2021. StatSports the main owners either do not have any liquidity cash to spend, or won't spend. Not the best start to a new season.

ye had a threadbare enough squad last year too so it makes even less sense to me how they could have burned through cash.

There truly is stiff competition for the mantle to be fair. Rennie was similarly bad as a player, I suppose he'll go down as being a worse signing due to as you say having a fee paid for him and him actually being brought in with the intent of being the main man up front (whereas Nwoko seemed to just be mid-season squad-filler). Came from the recommendation of Pat Cregg so once again for Dundalk's sake it'd be best if he weren't responsible for sourcing any incomings.

Or maybe its just a case of StatSports do not have available cash to invest on the squad but happy to keep on as main owners, but now looking to sell off some of their share for cash injection to be used for budget.

Debts were also nil at the time when P6 moved out, now granted 2021 was first year in 9 seasons with no euro monies, but still don't see why no money available to invest, again could be case statsports simply don't have it for this venture and focusing on their own business. Seems an odd one all the same.

Just as well we made europe and still have high coefficient (for now).

Spent time with Wigan last year apparently. Remains to be seen what this lad is like, but another two year deal for Harps. Perhaps a gamble this one.

A lot of managers can make mistakes with the odd player, and looks like SOD made one last season too in Robbie McCourt but amazingly he has yet to play in Oriel, all games away. But to be fair SOD did unearth some more than decent players for Pats, that GK (forget name), Alfie Lewis, a good few more from your 2021 MF.

No shortage of options these days for the queue of investors waiting to get involved in LOI. A sound investment for sure.
Investors will only want to invest in a profit making organisation. IF they do invest in a loss maker which Dundalk apparently are, the investor will want to play a major part in turning it around to a profit maker and the fans may not like it. No new players or bring in players of lesser quality just to have a squad but not making a squad/team to challenge for honours or qualify for Europe, no improvement of facilities to attract new supporters and then the wheel goes around and the fans want them out..... Yada Yada Yada

Wouldn't surprise me if he does, judging from the Kerryman pieces, it seems the squad has been together for weeks, but they're deliberately doling out the announcements at one per day to build up anticipation leading into the season.

With the greatest of respect to him, he got a run with Limerick when the arse had fallen out of it and there was 14 lads in a matchday squad. He made 3 starts in the last 3 games.
The fact that Tommy Barrett didn't go for him when Treaty United started up says a lot too.

Best of luck to him and I hope he does well, but it's a strange signing.

Not sure how it's a strange signing.

What type of players were you expecting Kerry FC to sign in their first season?

They're going to be promoting players from their academy and signing junior players from Kerry, Cork, Limerick, etc... surrounding areas. It seems like a fairly logical signing to me. It appears they'll essentially be an amateur outfit next season.

Kerry are rightly and obviously doing what they promised ,a largely local squad .If you look at the Treaty model under Tommy Barrett much the same was promised ,however the majority of the Treaty squads are not from the mid-west.,the present squad announced so far 19/20 has only about 4/5 what can be considered local players.

I do and don't agree with you. There's been plenty of players from the region at the club since day one that have either not been good enough, been too good or have stayed. Local players is Important but a balance has to be struck also. I don't think we're bereft of local players either.

The facts are:

Of the 19 signed this season there's 6 in total from Limerick, Tipp and Clare which is probably "the locality".
In the off season they have lost a total of 5 players from those same three counties.
There are 5 Limerick lads spread across Galway, Sligo and Derry as well as Ronan Coughlan, Sean McSweeney (both seemingly unattached) and Sam Warde (emigrated). That's without touching on Clare and Tipp.

The fact of the matter is that if you were to replace like for like (i.e. lose one Limerick player and replace him with another) then Treaty would struggle big time as the standard of junior soccer has never been worse, and the few that are good enough won't commit.

I could go on and talk about how only two people from Limerick have played in the Premier League in the last 20 years and how we haven't had a Senior international since Johnny Walsh, but I'd be here all night :D

Yesterday's signing was the only one where you'd question what he'd add to the squad over an existing academy player, the others all made logical sense in terms of either previous LoI experience or current local form.

Born in Limerick but moved at a very young age. You'd count him as being from Limerick, but not as a player that Limerick actually produced.

We have signed Estonian midfielder Vladislav Kreida on loan from Flora for the season subject to International Clearance. 21 caps but I think some of them might be caps for those domestic only International squads that the Baltic countries select for small competitions between themselves. Interesting that there's a few Estonian players in the league now.

Hell of a lot cheaper than what was spent last year. Rogers budget is half that of the 2022 budget.

Didn't anticipate my claim about Krieda being taken semi-seriously. Must admit I've not watched much of the Estonian league but what's the point in signing these lads if you can't kid yourself that they're brilliant before you've even seen them play.

Rumours of Rovers getting their own Estonian but not sure if it's gone through yet.
In regards to cotter I'd heard he'd been asking around one or two LOI clubs but had no takers- I just assumed he'd sign for pats and that would be that. Maybe wages is an issue?

But if they're crap you still have to pay them for another year so you're not saving anything. You'd want to have faith in whoever has been looking at them.

I'm not in the know at all but someone I know that knows someone on the Pats board told me about a month ago that we'd made an offer for him and Rovers were "stalling". Who knows though.

That's a gamble with any player. Could sign Leo Messi and he breaks his leg after one game and is out for the season but you still have to pay him. Any contract in football is a gamble.
On the other hand, if they're all good, we're on the right track.

Still nothing concrete on our Estonian. It's been a while since we cast that wide a net which always brings huge excitement followed by crushing disappointment.

Dundalk have been very busy this week, 4 new players in, all from UK with the picks appearing to be the central defender from Millwall (Muller) and attacking MF man who was with Rochdale recently (Malley), all 4 on perm deals, seem big lads height wise and all under 22 I think.

Oh and Robbie Benson back for 2023 who is essentially contracted to SOD at this stage in his career!

Still need 2 more, a full back and a winger, then probably that's the squad.

2 Year Contract

I see one of those Dundalk signings Cameron Elliott has been playing in the Scottish Lowland League for the last 2 seasons with East Fife. Another Pat Cregg masterclass signing on the cards? Although in fairness to Martin Rennie even he was playing 2 tiers above this lad. Bizarre stuff for a club playing European football to be looking at that poor a level for a signing
