He walked by me in the tunnel the other night , doesn't look like a fella carrying weight. He's obviously not going to be at peak fitness after 6 months off, red card looked harsh to me, Hery has been through a tough time personally over last year or so, I'm willing to give him a chance, he's probably on buttons with us.
I guess when talking of a player you sometimes don't think that anything off the field could be effecting them. He was ok for us - looked good in some games - not so much in others. It was a short-term signing but at the same time it was very surprising that Caulfield went for him. I think Ollie Horgan wanted Gary Boylan at the time and that's how Hery ended up with us.
Probably could add something that Longford don't have in terms of creativity and experience.

Terrible attitude. Didn’t try a jot when he did play. Refused to warm up one day. Liked posts on twitter when we lost games. Good riddance.

Brilliant bit of business, he has become the flagship player that I thought Matt Keane would be.
Waterford sign goalkeeper Sam Sargeant from Leyton Orient.

Badly needed a goalkeeper, Paul Martin simply isn't good enough this season, surprisingly.

Good to see Shels hire a FT academy coach. Not sure if he is the first but it is definitely something we need far more of across the league.

Don’t Croly and Sexton do this at Bohs?

Pretty sure Croly is working with the academy now because he couldn't go full time with his job.

Matt Connor get the road so?
He's still there but hasn't played this season so maybe he will move on with the new keeper signing.

Wayne Guthrie has departed Kerry. Has to be more than meets the eye there.
He almost broke Colin Kelly's leg at the Markets Field and hobbled off a bit after making the tackle, I think Billy/club said he was injured but I don't see how especially when Colin Kelly miraculously played 72 hours later.

There were a lot of rumours flying around MHP the week after that game when you played Longford about the social activities of certain players.

Looks like Conor Winn will come back in now. Hallahan was dependable enough but had his drawbacks of course.

Goalkeeper Rory Kelly played for Harps vs Killbarrack in the cup last night, his name appearing on the team sheet seemed to be the first notification most Harps fans got that he had signed. No idea how long he has been signed for. Kelly was on the books at Harps before in 2012 & 2013 but only played a handful of games.

A goalkeeper has come in and pushed Cox down to third place, I don't think his departure is that deep.

Does Ian Ryan give anyone else Neale Fenn vibes, a lot of good press without that much substance. And like Fenn in his latter days at Longford he is going through a lot of players because they are the problem for the underachievement instead of him not coaching up what he has

Yes both hyped some similarities but not exact same circumstances Fenn inherited a team at Longford in a better position with a bigger budget and further up the table than Ryan at the basement with Wexford. There was more irrational hype with Ryan that went up a bizarre level following that FAI Cup win over an average Sligo and as Wexford never looked breaching the top half of the table, then he nearly landed the Bohs job we'll never know how it would have worked out
You could see with Fenn Longford played some good football that could have had promotion potential but they were plagued with inconsistent results as they never look streetwise to avoid too many defeats. Daire Doyle then takes over despite losing some quality players gets them streetwise and promoted via the play-offs
Bray still have a Cabinteely stink off them this season, struggling for wins and no consistent starting XI with a turnover of players already, it may look good for Ryan or any manager that about 10 players follow them over from their former club but if they don't do the business and some of them are gone by mid-season it doesn't look great for the manager. I still think Bray need to give Ryan time to get that Bray team on the right track as it was not far off a new squad assembled with alot of youth alongside proven veterans like Massey, Webster, Lyons

His dad scored two goals in the 1998 semi final away to Athlone, so he was a big part. Also, Jaze started out playing underage for City so its a bit of a return.

Exactly. Ask anyone involved with de town in those few seasons, they'll tell you the difference in 2020 was Johnny Martin coming in, a total genius
Fenn got no money in mid season and the promotion whilst it was great had a bit to do with the times we were in.
Premier division displays were with few exceptions awful. Park the bus stuff.
Longford have a lovely set up with a large hinterland that has no opposition in it. Its easy to say but the net has to be spread much wider. With all due respect to the county team and the rugby club they are not setting the world on fire.
i suppose it all boils down to the old saying "how do you make a small fortune? Invest a large one into a League of Ireland club."
To be fair a lot of clubs with more money and support could learn from Longford in terms of facilities.

Can I laugh at this one? How big a budget do you need to aspire for a playoff spot in the Irish First Division?
The original point was 2 fold, one the media hype (when Tim Clancy was doing a much better job with a similar budget) & the heavy turnover of players similar to Ryan this year. Fenn did well year 1 as did Ryan at Wexford given their low level, but halfway through their second season but sides signed & released plenty when the squad should have been fairly settled after 18months.
Obviously it across 2 clubs but Ian Ryan is basically in hos second season with a group of players given how many he signed for Wexford & then took with him

Think one of Doyle's kids has been unwell and that's played a part in his decision, as far as I know he's been omitted from a couple of match day squads recently because of it.
All the best to him anyway. On a footballing level I think he did better than he was given credit for last season, but obviously just didn't live up to expectations. This season has been a write off though and he's really looked like age has caught up with him, even though he had a contract up until the end of next season I was expecting him to be off at the end of this year as he can barely move anymore.

good luck to himself and his fam in that case. cant be easy to get yourself going for games, especially at his age, when stuff like that is going on in the background

Best of luck to Doyler, and hope the personal issues work out ok. I think a lot of people seemed to have expectations befitting of a 28 year old Eoin Doyle rather than the reality of him being 34 at the time. 15 goals last season was a very decent return. As mentioned he had a big drop off in performance level this year compared to last but that’ll happen to most at 35 years old. 635 games and 208 goals is a sensational career for any LOI player, particularly considering the vast majority of those were across the water.
For Pats it will mean they’re down a body but with Doyle not having featured much at all recently I don’t think they’ll bring in a replacement with just 4 days left in the window, despite the big wage that's now been freed up. It will probably mean more game time for Lonergan and Melia in support of Carty. Unless of course Daly has had a potential replacement lined up but we'll see how it pans out over the weekend

I’m not in a place to comment on Doyle’s personal life. I can only judge his departure as a positive for the team. If we can use the money to better affect elsewhere then it can improve the side.

He goes by Ollie. We've literally signed Ollie Byrne the day before we play Shels. He'll be the 5th keeper to start a game for us this season, and this will mean Jimmy Corcoran gets dropped for the 4th? time this season.
