Wouldn't be too excited about the McDonnell signing if I was a Bohs fan. If Kirk does come back he'll add some much needed bite to the team. He was excellent for Sligo this season. Good honest lad too

You severely underestimate how poor our midfield was this season outside of Devoy and Clarke, both of whom could have won player of the season having only played half a season.

Flores can kick a lovely ball. Outside of that he's pretty poor. Levingston has patches of decent play but is poor overall
Doherty played as a defender this year
Coote never got near the heights of last year and didn't even make the squad on a couple of different occasions
McManus has potential but still very young and prone to a rookie error

There were probably others who never saw the pitch or spent more time injured than playing so I didn't bother including them.

If McDonnell can be consistently available and put in 6/10 performances week in week out that's a big improvement on the current lot.

Interesting that Rovers have made solid enquiries to Derry about Brian Maher which would involve a big transfer fee, can we assume Mannus not staying another year then or is he being phased out?

It really is the silly season, folks - Jimmy wasn't winning matches in Beijing, so Ballybofey's unlikely to be much different!

I think the negativity around this is a bit too harsh. McGuinness has spent nearly a decade now working within Soccer - its not like he is just GAA man.

Plus Harps are in the First, its not like he is going to the European Super League. What will the other C.Vs be like that they receive?

I dont know what he is like, if he knows his stuff or not. Thats for the Finn Harps management to decide. But he has paid his dues in the sport to be considered and I definitley would not just write him off because he is well known in another sport.

I struggle to believe this. Derry wouldn't sell to their biggest rivals and its not like they need the money is it?

Come on sbgawa you know full well if a player in our league is tapped up ( sorry approached ) and the money tree waves they’re off, And I care not what the official bull****e is from wofuss, you’re paying by far the biggest wages, three year deals, and every player in this league is going for that.

Anyone who thinks derry would sell maher to rovers needs to go and have a lie down. Not a chance in hell that is true

Some players are going to Rovers to be successful and further their careers. You don't need me to give you a list now do you?

I didn’t say Derry accepted ,I don’t know, but I can absolutely guarantee you that early discussions have taken place. Unfortunately it looks like Brian and his agent are in favour of the move but yes he is under contract and we could price him out of it.

Isn't Brian Maher on a three year deal with Derry as it stands?

His experience in the game is all as a coach and mostly on part time basis, twice he was given manager /head coach roles and don't think he last a year combined in the roles.

Delighted with that signing. A bohemian through and through and a good player to boot. You're right about the clear out though. Do you remember who got multi year deals last year? I can only remember Junior, Flores, Max Murphy and Clarke being multi year deals

Twardek, Doherty, O'Sullivan and Afolabi are multi year as well. Hopefully O'Sullivan gets his arse in gear and we can con somenone into taking Junior off our hands.

Kirk a good signing for Bohs. We’ll miss him. Bit worried that we’re losing a player to a club who finished below us the last couple of seasons but it’s always hard to keep the dubs.

Yeah you’re right he’s banging in goals for the Irish underage teams. Very surprised to see him on the list. I’d see Cork as the perfect club for him at this moment in time, not just because he’s a cork lad but in terms of playing time he’s a lot more likely to get games there than he would at a club that’s currently higher up the pecking order

Buckley and Kirk both back to Bohs on multi year contracts.
On the face of it two good signings but it smacks a bit of trying to keep the fans happy by Devine.

No such thing. These are 2 really good signings and hopefully more to come. Bucko was brilliant and went travelling, any other team in the league would be glad to have him so it's good business to get him back. The same with Kirk. Now we Just need to see who else comes in. The most important will be the striker.

Conor Levingston released from Bohs. Lad was very honest but after a good first season seemed to regress year on year unfortunately. His lack of pace was really apparent this season.

thought he did well at bohs, not caught a lot of their games back this year though. wouldnt mind him down in cork but if hes after losing pace then maybe he wont suit us, bolger already in midfield who isnt the most mobile.

The article also suggests Evan Caffrey is on the move from UCD. If he leaves UCD that will be him, Dylan Duffy and John Ryan all former Rovers B players using UCD as a hopping on/off product. The club have a handy relationship going with Rovers these days, but the players don't stay around, they aren't students at the college. But we have to get our players from somewhere as our own academy product has been pretty poor of late. Hopefully Rovers will send us three or four more of their best youngsters for next season.

Whas the rumours with Colm Whelan. He was the hottest player in LOI till the injury. His next move might be depending on what happens Keena (guessing Derry and Rovers will be after him).

I'd say he'll be lucky to get any sort of a pre-season done. Could be March or April before he kicks a ball again if it was only May he done the cruciate.
