View Full Version : 2013 Attendances

Despite Stu's and Extra times estimate, there were 700ish at the Bray game. So the stat about it being lower attended than the 1st Div games is incorrect. Our stand which holds 950 was 2 thirds full with about 50 - 80 others dotted about the place. Feel free to put down whatever you want but just so you know.
Until they release an official figure, I'll be sticking with the estimate given. Different fans will have different views and I can't go with one fans guess.

You can watch on MNS tomorrow, or you can try make it out from this (not great) still, but the stand wasn't two-thirds full.

The increases for clubs after moving to a new facility (Thomond, Tallaght) goes to show how much of a difference it can make. Build it and they will come.
Not really.

Just noticed there has (according to the stats given) been exactly 7,000 people in First Division grounds this season so far.
What the f**k is going on with the Drogheda crowds? 2nd last year, European football aswell as a decent squad and manager. Idiots.

Great to see Cobh been backed so well early on I just hope it keeps up for them, shocked to see so many youngsters at the game its great for the LOI.

Talking to one of the Limerick lads he said that our attendance was not given out because the counting system failed after a bit 2305 was what it was at at the time it failed. Club gave an estimate of 3000 to Extratime apparently.
Edit: Extratime have the estimate of 3000 up.

I would trust a Harps fan over someone from Mervue.

Lims seem to be having problems getting exact figures for attendances so far.I hope it was 3,000 up but Munster Rugby never seem to have such problems with the system for giving exact attendances for their matches and i guess it's the same system yee are using?

I think its part of the problems they are having getting used to running a match day with so many more fans then we are used to. The first time they ran out of away tickets so a lot of Cork fans were not counted this time whatever system they were using to count people crashed not sure exactly what was the cause of it. Im not sure if it is the same system tbh we had a scanning system last seaon in Jackman so may have brought that with us. The only part of match days i know 100% that Thomond run is the security. I dont think any attendance was called out either which would be the first time and could have something to do with the problems.
Could well be just trying to up the attendance too but thats what i was told happened and appears Extratime were too.

The figure for V Cork was also hotly disputed even though it wasn't rounded(3578)

Definitely felt like more on the terrace (which was far fuller than it was for the cork game)
But then from the terrace you cant see the seats....
Afaik theres problems with the scanners because its not the same system as Munster games and requires different barcodes.
For example our seating is unreserved whereas with Munster youd have a specific seat.

Out of the large group i was in no-one heard it being called out. Feel free to throw up the tweets though if they are from anyone that would know the score then fair enough.
For the record it was a Cork fan that first brought up that a lot of them had not been counted.
Edit: Now that i think of it and its gonna sound like a lie now but the lad that was scanning in my ticket had to call over another lad to do it because it was coming up as an invalid ticket on his scanner wonder was that something to do with it.

Nah.I'd rather not in respect of privacy for the Tweeters. As i said i hope the attendance was 3,000 + but disputes over the figures will continue until Lims get their act together re calling attendances and also their security policy which seems to be a reach back to EPL security measures circa late 80's- about 2004

No way was the attendance called out, I had to look it up when I went home. Security seemed more relaxed than the first game to me. I was scanned, but not patted down or made to empty pockets or open my jacket. Seems other people had worse experiences, I'd worry about the impression that leaves. Imagine it'll be Threat Level Red-type stuff on Tuesday.
Decent atmosphere in the terraces, the stand can be a bit of a morgue to be honest. Is that picture as Pats were about to win their penalty?

Now, I'm no good at judging the size of a crowd, but I'd say there's about 17 million of them there in the terrace

munster rugby issue paid attendances (on website) rather than bums on seats, paid attendances at league games are significantly higher. They used to call out attendances but they wouldn't be as significant to them as it would be for a LOI team.

Munster have had lads of problems with their ticket scanners also. Many times I just get let through an exit door after they just look at my ticket because of scanning problems.
My season ticket for limerick doesn't seem to be scanning properly at all at games so not sure if I'm the only one in that respect. If the scanners are causing problems then they probably feel it better to just get people in to have the queues building up.

ET report 'approx 750' for Derry v Bray today, nothing in yet from Drogs v Cork.
There was about 1500 at Derry match, extratime talkin ****e again
Why cant Derry announce an official attendance? Even if they reported an estimated crowd, as long as it came from a club source it would help to clear things up like this in an instant.

Drogs crowd always bad if its not Friday at 7.45pm. We've had one game in the season at that time and day. Ridiculous! Thought there was well more though than 400.
465 is just very dissapointing. This is end of season with nothing to play for type of figures, not top 5, setanta cup semi, and after last seasons decent efforts.
Cork was also a good enough game, and I'd imagine they had a good few also there, which makes it even worse.
EDIT, more alarmingly, what were two Dlk fans doing at the game:eek:

Cork had about 30 max in terrace. Like I said, the fixture or league position makes no difference. If its not Friday night crowds are rubbish. Plus playing games every 3 days is too much for peoples pockets. Our fixture list last month was crazy!

Yeah I'd say its disheartening, but I'm sure it will turn. Like every club we have a fair bandwagon element which should return once we stop drawing matches! Its mad to think we've actually only lost once (only 1-0) in about 10 games this year! The expectation has naturally ballooned this year!

Having the Brennan brothers at the club seemed to have given the team a very local feel as well (at least compared to the Doolin era!).
I don't buy into the facilities argument too much but in Drogheda's case, maybe the fact they announced plans to move away (only to eventually end up staying put) could have had some bit of an effect on people's perception of the ground.

i think it has more to do with historically drogheda have always had a badly supported side throughout their history. the only difference to this was during the noughties but other than that drog attendances have been on a par with ucd or bray levels whether in the 1st or the premier.

Don't forget that Drogheda is now largely a dormitory town for displaced Dubs.
They haven't been able to attract many of these economic migrants to their games.

I thought it was about 1500-1600 myself. Extratime estimates are a joke. Also there were more than what they estimated 350 at Bray/UCD the previous Friday. more like 650-700.

Not fair to say on a par with UCD attendances. Far, far better than that. Also, Drogheda games in the 70s and 80s drew respectable crowds as far as I remember. The 2005 Cup Final saw a very big turn out from Drogheda. Really poor so far this season, though. Very disheartening. Hopefully Friday nights games will be more successful.
(I can't help feeling, though, that's it's all part of the overall 'football malaise' in this country, and the general feeling that the League of Ireland is fading into insignificance, and dying a slow, painful death).

Not having much luck, I think Drogs next home Fri night game is v UCD. Will definitely cut them some slack though, as last two on a Sunday & BH Monday, both at 3pm were never likely to be big pulls. Still poor from the locals, and the club deserves better.

It's a natural thing to think. But no, our finances are in order as long as the crowds up a bit. No need to start panicking people! :-)

That would be my point. Will the crowds go up? Drogs have already punched above their weight from last season. Anything less than 2nd place and there will be less than 1,000 people each week. Will that be enough to cover costs?
