Fair enough. Presumed there wasn't. Rarely used anyway (just like the away section)

Thats a collectors item

Dundalk installed/replaced around 3,200 seats to bring the ground up to standard of hosting two rounds of European games in 2010. The shed has around 1,000 seats, most of central part not used, but fans do sit on either side of the covering.

There is also seating in the town side of the stand, again it's a mixed take up for use, but definitely used. Away section, hardly ever see anyone using the seats there.

Delighted to see a packed Lissywollen last night. Hope we can keep 1500+ for Premier Division games next season.
I don't expect Athlone to have a average much above 1.000 to be honest. Especially if results go against yee which im guessing they will.

I wonder how Athlone plan to deal with segregation in the ground for the bigger games next year. Only one gate in and out of the ground doesnt help.

Are there any plans to add another stand there?

A very small stand behind the goal with its own toilets/food cart and entrance. 500 roofed seats would be plenty. but i think it will be hard too get this done before next season starts.

Isn't a second entrance a requirement?

Problem is when ya have the likes of Rovers, Pats and Dundalk etc coming down, if we have 2000 home fans, where are ya going to put the away fans. Cant put them behind the goal for safety reasons (all the stones, rocks etc) so what do ya do there. Id love if we built a little shed behind one of the goals.

Maybe get rid of the stones and rocks? (I can't even begin to imagine what the 'etc' refers to...)

I'd have to say - that is probably my favourite ever post on Foot.ie - just for the 'stones and rocks' reference.

The etc meaning the big pitch wide muck piles that are behind the goals for some unknown reason

Oh ye of little faith :P
I reckon Roddy will put a strong enough team together. Of course well lose games, and our crowd will drop, but im looking forward to the challenge ahead. Next season is all about stability. Thats all.

Sure its only a short couple of months ago that I was at the Harps game against Athlone in Lissywollen, I'd say at a struggle there were 300 there. You can't beat a bandwagon but give it a few bad results next season and lets see where the avg settles. Its only really the last 8-10 games that have seen the results which led to a big jump in numbers, that game against harps was a bit of a turning point for both teams

Limerick have managed a consistent enough four digit level of crowd, with a fairly noticeable drop off in the last month and a half as the season winds down into irrelevancy (for the club I mean). And that's around a mid-table level. You'd have to imagine that, first season back, Athlone would only ever be reaching that high, probably a little lower. With the increased away crowds, something in the region of Bray's numbers would be good. 1500 a game is certainly a very ambitious target.

Phew. For a minute there I thought you were going to have to increase your attendance fivefold but now you're only going to have to treble it. Should be easy

Regardless, personally delighted to see Athlone come up. My first game outside of Dublin was in St Mels so have a bit of a soft spot for them. Never been to Lissywoolen either

Well that was back in April. As you can clearly see our attendances have greatly improved since. Our attendance the other night was only 300 off the Premier Division champions elects highest attendance all season. ;)

Put it this way, can Athlone's stand accommodate around 1000 home fans and possibly 4-500 away fans to include an x amount of seats been taken away for segregation?

MY bad, but anyways considering there was about 20 Waterford fans for our game and there was 1100? Dundalk fans in Inchicore.

30/09/2013, 3:57 PM
I think over 1,200 away tickets were sold for that game, possibly more attended but not recorded as may have paid into home section, but it still doesnt change the figure, Pats highest crowd remains 3,313, you cant 'allow' for away support, its still counted as a home attendance.

There`s going to be some competition on this site next year for the most tiresome set of posters on premier division attendance. Early overblown strides this season by Limerick gave way to grudging reality. Dundalk continue to canter on as outright winners this year but I reckon Athlone will give them a run for their money next season

athlone stand holds 2500
Athlone Town Stadium (often referred to as Lissywollen) is the home stadium of Athlone Town (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athlone_Town_F.C.). It has a seating capacity of 2,500 and an overall capacity of 5,000. The stadium was built in 2007, replacing St Mel's Park (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Mel%27s_Park) as the home of the club.Only one stand has been built, if the stadium was to be fully completed it would have a capacity of 10,000.[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)]
In November 2011, it was reported that Athlone Town had received a donation of €500,000 to wipe out debts incurred through the construction of the stadium.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athlone_Town_Stadium#cite_note-1)

That and the fact there was no clash with junior trainings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A good few junior lads there that I haven't seen at a few games due to clashes.

I'd say we'll be lucky to hit the thousand again for the last home game of the season.

Christ man, I could go onto Wiki and change it so that it says Finn Park is an 80,000 all seater with under soil heating and 500 bars..

But you'd need to reference it for it to be valid. Which hasn't been done up the wiki for Athlone Stadium. The figures don't seem that far out though really.

1,248 at Belfield on Friday. Probably about 1,100 of them were Pats fans and that's being very generous to UCD.
