View Full Version : 2013 Attendances

That was a pretty ballsy projection given they struggled to get 1,000 to most games last year.
And they've only managed to get 1,800 average this year.

I think you'll find that the average is currently 1,950 and two of our remaining four home matches are against Drogheda and Derry, both likely to be 2,500 plus.

.
Last year was a joke, I think 400 turned up for the last league game, but it rose to 1,500 for the playoff.
So even after your biggest game in years only got 1,500 to it you still predicted average crowds of 2,000?
That's a very big gamble but it looks to have paid off.

I think there is a misunderstanding here.
As far I am I know, the budget has increased as the team has performed well and higher attendances have been achieved. Dundalk increased their playing staff and budget in the summer. I could be wrong, but the current spend per week is greater than was envisaged at the beginning of the season.
Too many clubs view a budget as being static. Dundalk were in the fortunate position of revenue growing beyond expectations.
While an average attendance of 2,000 is the current projection, it was not the projection at the beginning of the season.

White Horse has adequately dealt with the misunderstanding about the pre-season club budget and the current average attendance. In this recent interview with Ciaran Bond, club chairman, he is clear that attendances have had an impact on adding players in the July window, and that if things go well from now to the end of season it is possible that the current projected "small loss" could turn to "break even". No sane person would have based a pre-season budget on the current average attendances!

In case of any misunderstanding on the €12k weekly figure, this is not the "Player budget" or even the "Player & Coaching budget" but the total weekly cost to run the club including electricity, pitch maintenance etc.
Presumably player and coaching costs don't exceed 65% of this figure!!!!!!!!!!

Just to clarify, PS, their biggest game in years, against The Real Rovers, had over 3000.

I would hope they had their yearly budget sorted before a game in August...

Athlone Town vs Wexford Youths Att 1086
That's a tremendous crowd by Athlone and sounds official too. Would imagine almost all home support too. Great to see. Def have a soft spot for Athlone, good football town, good memories of visiting a packed st mels in the early 80's as a young lad !
Always great to see people of a town backing their side, and looks like they can really push on now.

Good support this week even though I thought it might dwiddle over the 2 week break considering the last home game was 4 weeks ago.
But decent crowd and I think it will only get better. I wouldnt be suprised with 2000 attendance come the Waterford and/or Longford games.
Fans are chipping in with the PR too with posters and obviously us doing well is a big factor.

Wasnt the best performance from us tonight but a win is a win. If we beat Cobh next week im confident the league is ours. Longford out of it now so Waterford are our only threat. Brilliant crowd for us considering there was about 20 wexford fans (if even). Great to see people interested again. Bandwagon or not its money coming into the club. 1086 is a great crowd in the 1st division against Wexford.

If ye get 2k for a game then that would be something else (1988 officials and all!). Can't see it happening mind. But hopefully Athlone are back up next season.
620 at Waterford v Longford.

I would agree. As much as breaking the 1k barrier is impressive for Athlone, 2k is simply not realistic for a FD game with the sides that are currently in it.
Look at above post, a city like Cork getting (a very decent) crowd of 2,024 for a PD game, and they are mid table.

1500 will be the max ceiling for Athlone I would reckon. Thats home fans alone though, travelling fans (apart from Longford) are never plentiful here though. you could be looking at 2000 for the Longford game on the last day alright, but thats provided Longford have something to play for.

Ì reckon if we can win the Title at either of our 2 remaining home games, we will just break 2000.

smallest Derry crowd I've ever seen at the cross. I counted 8, but I'm reliably informed that there were 12.
I blame Brendyeire, part timer not only didn't turn up, but he also ensured a large portion of the travelling Derry crowd were too broke to make it to Cork

I was at Richmond PK last night, I would put it slightly over 2k as well, however plenty of empty seats around me in main stand and just a few in the seats behind goal. Between 4 and 5 hundred Bohs supporters there. Not great for a team going for the title and playing great soccer.

Jesus, why are Athlone fans so high and mighty about attendances now? Seeing it on here, and on Facebook. It's insane. Do they not remember past this season?
Besides, it's ridiculous that any First Division, or indeed Premier Division fans would mock others about their attendances, when all League of Ireland attendances are paltry.

Officially, I've a 48 from Salthill this season, but I was down at a match in Drom two years ago and there was 20 Harps fans and 3 or 4 people up in the clubhouse in absolutely ridiculous weather.

A very disappointing 1,684 in The Showgrounds
That is shocking. What's going on there?
Im no longer in the country so I would be interested to know why the "football mad" Sligo town will not get behind their team.
I commented on here before that the bandwagon jumpers need to be certain that there is indeed a bandwagon to jump on and that seems to be the case which is sickening really.
Are there other factors at play? I know the football served up has been fairly dire but still. Is enough being done to promote the games?
official attendance from the drom last night was 23.

When we go down on the supporters bus they stop us on the way in make us get off and pay and walk up to the ground it's a ridiculous set up (especially when your bursting for a p1ss and your told ya have to walk up a hill to get to the ground haha)

65% of that would be 7800 and im not buying that for a second!
Poor crowd in Sligo but theyre an odd kind of a team to watch, absolutely dripping with quality but they seem to have had the flair knocked out of them.
Impatient crowd aswell (possibly as a result of the flair deficit?) any kind of misplaced ball and the howling starts.
23 definitely isnt the lowest loi crowd ever either, people are quick to forget Kilkenny and Monaghan.

smallest Derry crowd I've ever seen at the cross. I counted 8, but I'm reliably informed that there were 12.
There were 3 of us supporting Derry in the main stand as well, so that makes it 15. Got down a bit late and had to do a lap of the ground to get in as the St Annes end gate was shut so we'd have been counted as Cork folk, until we opened our mouths that is, mind you there wasn't much to raise our voices for.
Decent enough sized crowd considering that Munster were playing London Irish a stones throw away from the ground at the same time.

I've always paid into the Drom, there's always been two guys charging as you drive in towards the clubhouse and handing out tickets (they could just be enterprising locals I suppose). Are you sure you're not sneaking in over the moors? :)
