As player-coach?
Heard that Baraclough is going - Ventre is going to Finn Harps : Millien to England - young Dykes to Bohs. Don't know is true?
Have any Finn Harps lads heard about Ventre moving to Donegal?

its hard to measure just how happy it makes me feel that that "player" is no longer playing for the team I love.
i can only thank the management team at pats for taking this wan%stain off our hands.
having windy o'connor in his place is a price worth paying

Someone's been checking out Rovers' Facebook page. Missed out on the bit about Maurice Monaghan taking a job with the Argentinean national side, though.

Hmmn. Doesn't fill me with joy. Undoubted talent but seems a bit of a waster. Looks like it's happening according to Pats forum. Hopefully Bucko can get him to perform. Not too bothered about losing O'Connor. Don't see him holding down a place at Rovers. Croly seems intent on reassembling last seasons Pats team out in Tallaght. Rumoured to be chasing Bolger and John Russell too, as well as Bermo.

All this talk about Croly's maneouvrings is interesting. Looks like he's trying to build an entire league-winning team almost from scratch.
If he's signing all the players mentioned, common sense would dictate that Shams will run away with the league next season - but we all know football's never quite that simple. One thing it does is take the weight of expectation off us and the other hopefuls and puts all the pressure squarely on the shoulders of an untried manager trying to find his best line-up and tactics. If early results don't live up to expectations you could see the crowd in Tallaght getting on their backs pretty quickly. There's also the question of money, no matter what Shams tell you about their new signings playing for next to nothing. And Kenny's compensation remains to be dealt with.
From our point of view, we've nailed down Keane, North, Peers, Rogers and Conneely - all of whom I rate as being as good as any in the league in their positions. Cawley, Henderson and Connolly could also prove to be very effective. That's a hell of a lot more quality than we had signed this time last year - and that didn't turn out at all bad. McGuinness is gone, and it appears Quigley and Ndo may follow - that's several of our top earners off the books, freeing up funds for replacements, with several months to work with. I'd be curious to hear what fans of other clubs think about the squads they've already assembled, and what they're expecting.

Baraclough would be stupid to leave now as if Sligo win first round of champions league, they will have 2 chances to qualify for group stages, if they get a favourable draw and actually made it, the amount of clubs that would be Baraclough

Just saw the news about the three lads. Lynch and Gaynor huge, Joey worth having. Pretty relaxed about Quigs now - if he stays great, if he goes we'll manage.Maurice is another matter - it was probably the chance to turn Messi into a proper international player that swung it.

I'd be a little bit worried about Croly not looking outside Ireland for signings. Getting the better players from Pats is one thing but there's nobody in the league right now, available or not, who can replace Twigg's goals.

If Croly can get more players to chip in with the goals then getting a replacement for Twiggs goals shouldn't be a problem. Ye were almost too reliant on Twigg last season.
If Sean O Connor can have similar form with possibly Quigley added to that, not to mention Kilduff and Stewart then ye should have plenty of options for goals. Finn is always chipping in too.
Nothing from us, just a late challenge to Kenny who is reported to be asking for too much money for his own wages. Pete Mahon backed by former DFC manager John Gill seem to be getting a lot of mentions all day.
Playing budget appears to be set at 'around 7k' per week, so not a bad start for whoever gets the job to assemble the latest new team. Senior players like Cherrie, Griffin expected to stay, Rafter a possible, Foran too pending his emigration plans, I'd like Mountney & Shanahan, unsure of any others, but probably no news until a week after the new mgt team is installed. Announcement due early/mid next week.
Ps Sligo fans, delighted to see Ross Gaynor sign up for another year, he worked really hard last year, but Ndo? really ?

Seems a fairly big wage budget for a club who had the begging bowls out mid-season. Is everything sorted in Dundalk again now as regards the financial problems?

New owners of a united club fully backed by the Trust. A very different story to the club that was falling apart during the last season.
7k is not that ambitious for a club like Dundalk.

Dont have the figures to hand, but I think since last summer when the finances reached almost closure of the club within a month, the new owners have been chipping away quietly with the debt also. There was something a final match programme, or official website around Oct, but I think they have reduced it by 75%.
Very different times indeed to the Gerry Matthews one man show era. Now to be fair he did add big changes, to the place in terms of structual improvements, but his 'company' also left a lot of debt.
Also as stated above, we now have owners not only interested but fanatical fans, the last guy never saw us play on grass, an amazing stat but true, as he 'didnt do' away games, not even two trips to Europe or the Setanta Cup final. Difference to the new guys, they laid on a free bar and food for returning fans from Waterford.
Now all we need is a team to back it all up on the pitch, and for a season to last beyond August for once in the new summer PD years (then again it never really started last season !!)

So it appears our mass exodus that so much ink was expended on ultimately amounts to two first-teamers - unless Ventre goes as well. Now that the dust has settled Baraclough can get around to sorting out replacements. Quigley's good - probably the best player in the league last season - but seeing him go is hardly the disaster some of our more panic-prone fans seem to think. He hardly featured at all for us up to the halfway point of the season, by which stage we had a comfortable lead. He became crucial after North was injured.
People who don't watch our club as closely as we do won't easily notice that Baraclough was constantly having to deal with extended absences of key players. Quigley, Ndo and Millien early on, then North at a time when he was scoring for fun, and then Keane, Boco and Davoren for the title run-in.
Despite the supposed decimation of our squad, we could field a side tomorrow reading:
Rogers
Keane Peers Henderson Gaynor
Ndo Conneely Cawley Lynch Connolly
North
Hardly a catastrophe with several months to go.

Well he stood out for Dundalk because he was surrounded by mediocrity that season and all the other good players were injured. He was very hot and cold for Pats from my recollection. Even this season, Sligo fans weren't particularly happy with him until he admittedly put his hand up when North did himself a mischief.
I'd just have reservations about him when the going gets tough, as it undoubtedly will under an untested manager. If Rovers even challenge for the title next year, it won't be the stroll that Sligo took to the title, and I'd have him in the same category as your Killian Brennans in terms of disappearing when it's really put up to you. Maybe that's unfair.

You'd have to wonder about lads who make this kind of a move. Presumably they reckon they're more likely to be noticed by clubs higher up the English game. But then, how many Irish lads make it via this route, as opposed to the likes of Coleman and McClean?
