Hey - when he was with Fingal he 'turned down Crystal Palace' too...
I thought it was when he was at Fingal he has the chance to go on trial at Palace and then at Rovers they wanted him properly and he said no again i could easily be mistaken though.

Actually Dave Mooney turned down Palace too when he signed for us back in 2008, though those were crazy times.

Not one single person on this anyway. It's just been rumoured we are on to him at the moment.

Huge loss for us. Player of the year in my eyes.
Taxi drivers of Tallaght beware.;)
All the best Jason.

Pretty sure McGuinness left for the money as (a) the Luas goes out to Tallaght so you don't get fleeced by taxis and (b) he's going to save a few bob by not having to renew his passport next year.

Very disappointing but sure what can you do, they have more money than us and thats basically what it comes down to.

Two great signings for Rovers now.
Can we assume more Pats players will be switching over?

The rumours are Kenna, Bermo, Soccy, Russell, Fagan and Barry Murphy
Of them Bermo looks a certainty to be going, we will find out about the rest in the next 2 weeks I'd imagine

Or the fact yous didn't offer Jay a new contract and his missus wanted to move back home has a part to play in it.

Heard a few months back that Jay was looking to get back to Dublin. Big loss for Sligo. There is always the risk that clubs holding off issuing new contracts (as has been suggested at Sligo) will lose out. Question for each club of balance.

Sligo offered him a deal. Rovers offered him a better deal
In Chambers case Rovers offered him a deal. He came back to Pats and said 'match that and I'll stay', and Pats couldn't match it
No big conspiracies or anything. The majority of players move for money
Nah Nah Nah Nah

Well it's good to see that Pats weren't trying to stretch themselves to match Shams offer.
McGuinness has always been saying how hard he's found it being away from Dublin. Even after we won the league he tweeted about it had made it worth all the travelling and occasions he had missed out.
I don't expect to see Quigley playing for us either next season.
I think our MC have handled it all pretty well. They did sign a few players up to next season during the summer and then waited till the end of the season to see see how much money we have to play with next season before approaching the rest with new contracts. I'd rather lose a few players then lose the club as we handed out a rake of contracts presuming we'd win the league and get champions league money.

Just proves the point (and i think u have mentioned this in the past), champs league qualifiers are not important to players, all that matters is the money.

In fairness to them we've never even come close to winning a round in Europe so I wouldn't expect it to hold much sway

Some see Europe as a hassle. Particularly if part time (realise both those lads aren't BTW).
They realise its good for the clubs and the they clerly give their all at the games, but there's nothing glamarous about fligths to iceland or Lithuania, staying in a crap hotel and playing a game of ball in front of a a lower than LOI crowd.
Of course I'm generalising a good bit here, but I don't belileve that any established LOI player makes a decision ona move based on European football

What the champs league does is gives Rovers a bit more financial leverage to be able to compete with Shams. The talk in Sligo that we are now attractive for players because of the lure of champs league qualifiers is as i expected proving to be rubbish.

If Sligo are prudent they should resist the temptation to offer higher wages to players based on Europe. Another dark day will come around in the future (it is the LOI after all) and they will be glad to have a little spare in the bank for it.

Maybe it helps sway young players (looking to be in a shop window of sorts) or players who haven't played in Europe before.

In fairness to the club, they are not doing this and have said they will not be held to ransom. I hope all clubs, not just Rovers, have learnt from the mistakes of the past by now.

I'm not sure if you meant this to sound as judgemental as it comes across, but the players' first loyalty has to be to their families. It's not like any of them make a great living.

No I didnt, they are absolutely entitled to get the best deal for themselves and their family as any of us would in our jobs. I was making the point that in this league football reasons such as champs league qualifiers are not as high up the priority list as some would think.

Ah right, yeah. Sure Mannus left in the middle of the Europa League qualifying campaign, in between the two legs of a game we were winning.

What about Shams game at White Hart Lane - this is all part of the gamble? Best of luck to Jayo, nice guy and quality player - but do not mention BlackCabs.
What do you do when signing up a load of LoI journeymen fails to win you the title?
Sign up even more of them and hope that things will be different.
It would be interesting to hear in percentage terms how much extra Sligo offered McGuinness, also I am sure he was on well over 1k per week, so I'm split between who did best. I admire Sligo for not over extending themselves, but with 40 week contracts players will always go for the money, plus the travel over to the west coast is a fair old spin, compared to say up the M1 to Drogs or Duns (not that he would have for one minute considered this)
Dublin players moving outside Dublin will always be a risk, they generally will want to move home and then to the club with the best offer.
So is Quigley waiting for his offer next ? If he moves to Rovers that will surely be a record, 5 different PD clubs 5 years in a row.

Rovers starting line up next season in the Premier Division:
Rogers
Conneely, Peers, McGuinness, Gaynor
Cretaro, Ventre, Lynch, Millien
Quigley, North
1st Division Team:
Murphy
O'Brien, Browne, Kenna, Bermingham
O'Connor, Russell, Chambers, Forrester
Faherty, Fagan
Should be decent in fairness.
The LSL side should be handy with the likes of Pat Sullivan, Conor McCormick and Ciaran Kilduff in there.

In Ian Berminghams case, Shams have offered him a 2 year contract and Pats aren't willing to do the same, so he will most likely be going.

Id hazard a guess and say its not the extra cash that Shams are offering (if any) but the length of the contract he was offered that he couldnt refuse. Heard 3 years!

I would love if we were able to sign someone as good as Madden but just because its in some paper doesn't make it true.

Limerick aren't paying high wages and Limerick don't sign anyone until after Christmas.
This Limerick high wages thing is gone screwball in a few peoples heads at this stage:
Ryan
Kelly
Treacy
Purcell
Tracy
O'Brien
Gamble
O'Leary
Bradley
Collins
Behan
There's the team that won the league in Longford. Subs used were McGann, Coughlan and Brosnan.
It aint exactly Bucko era Fingal is it.
And Limerick certainly aren't in talks with Simon Madden.
As for "chatting" he probably bought Pat O'Sullivan a drink at the PFAI awards like every other player

The only way Madden is going to Limerick is if he's committed himself to some bizarre anti-clockwise tour of Ireland via Dundalk and Derry.
