Little piece on the FIFPro tournament from the Times: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/sport/2013/0110/1224328631640.html

FC Haka on the prowl again.

Except Haka didn't sign anybody from these tournaments. In fact no player who's played for the irish team has signed for a non Irish club folllowing their appearance in the tournament

Don't think he did. I haven't them to hand but fairly certain he wasn't listed on any of the 2 squads before this one

Are we the only country to run something like this? Its just i dont hear of it anywhere else, obviously could very well be standard practice. I would think that it would always take a few years for something like this to get going. Or for some club to unearth a gem from it and then everyone else follows suit the next year.

Obviously not if there's a team from three other countries participating.

We don't run anything. The Norwegian PFA organise it and ourselves, Finland and Sweden participate. This is the 3rd year of the winter tournament. Apparently some of the summer leagues hold a simialr tournament

I'm not knocking the tournament BTW, I was just pointing out most of the players involved will want to stay at home so if they get an offer, they're more likely to do that.

In many east european leagues they run (organised by the league body) a triallists match. Last year the 3rd division (4th tier) Moscow Oblast league had one out in Scholkovo, a few young lads cut from big Moscow clubs lined out. Dalmatia had one (at least until 2009).

A LOI team could do wonders for our players and the league, not just for promoting the game in Ireland but also giving players an outlet. The experiment for the aviva was going to fail as you need a full selection of players. It would be great to see the LOI go up against Serie B or 2. Bundesliga.

If the FA's took it, in conjunction with the PFA's it would be great.

I wonder what Ciaran McGuigan is at now. Is he still in Sweden?
Was Dundalk's youth captain for a while and then progressed onto the main team and done well for a young chap.

Limerick supposedly talking to Davin O'Neill.

Can't see that happening. He won't move far from Cork. He really likes his job working for the Navy. Turned down Ipswich when Roy Keane wanted to sign him.

Why is he leaving Cork?

Tommy Dunne said his job is very physically demanding which causes him to pick up more injuries than normal with not much recovery time, that and he can't really commit training wise.

Cobh would be a decent move for him if they are in the first division, back to his old club also.

So who's decision was it, his or the club's? Even on one leg he was still banging in plenty of goals so presumably his.

I'd say his too or at least mutual.

Think he is linked to Waterford United also.

I'd say it was Tommy mostly, though I don't know how upset he would be about it.

From what I've been hearing it sounds like Cobh will be back and hed be a very good player for them to have.

If Cobh are back, it means an 8 Div 1 again this year. Anyone know the story with the two Galway clubs from last season ? Will Salthill still play in Terryland under the strange name and in Galway maroon colours and have they and Mervue started pre-season yet ?

Oh right, i thought it was something the PFAI were running to promote LOI players. So it was probably an invite, it actually makes sense though, the other leagues are a good match for ours so its a good exercise imo.

Far as I know, Salthill are going back to being Salthill Devon FC and playing out of Drom. Mervue will be as they were.

Davin O'Neill was IMO a victim of the Irish navy. He had all the attributes to make it big, but he may have taken the sensible option and fair play to him for that. He was always good for a goal, but last year just seemed to prove that the Premier was too far out of his reach.....not ability-wise, but in terms of committment. He became very frustrating for the 2nd half of the season. I'd hate to see the fans get on his back too much as he came across as a nice guy and a very honest player.

Unless Cobh are going down the amateur route then it is unlikely they will be back. It will be 7 teams.

Reliably informed that they will be going down the amateur road next season that's if they're successful with their license application.

If the playing staff is amateur it won't stop them going into the first division surely.

If they come to an arrangement with the PFAI and their former players then I'd imagine they'll be let back in with an amateur set up. The Revenue were paid weren't they?

TAYLOR UNVEILED AS MANAGER

Friday 11 January 2013

Limerick FC have unveiled their new manager. Stuart Taylor arrived late last night and will begin pre season work from Monday. The manager will have to sign a number of players with the majority of last seasons squad still out of contract.

Locally meanwhile the FAI Junior Cup takes centre stage this weekend. Pike Rovers are on the road as they face Villa FC, while Carew Park have home advantage as they meet Clonmel Town and Regional Utd also have home advantage on Sunday afternoon.

Only been in the league a few years and this will be his fifth club...journeyman ;)

Thought he was decent at the start when we had him to be honest, very good left foot, but hard to handle by all means.

Possibly the amount owing to former players but I think they're hopeful of an agreement there?, As far as I know revenue have been paid.

agreed to sign to play on the wing, then on the first day of training told Tommy he wanted to play in the middle.

Was barely involved with us. 3 or 4 sub appearances at best. Better to ask any Monaghan or Waterford fans. We won't miss him.
