Lads its a fact of life that soccer in Clare will always be affected by GAA. This is because every club is either from a village or a town where clubs are competing for the same players. I would think that the cities are the only leagues that dont have this problem. Now can we move on to more interesting issues like the cup this weekend..
:D Very good

As far as i know the only game called off so far is Newtown and Kildysert back in Cahercon.
Bunrattys pitch should be ok for our game and Id say Rineanna will be out with hairdryers all night to make sure they dont lose home advantage. Id fancy them at home so hopefully it goes ahead.

corofin harps A through to cup qtr finals after penalty shootout win over kilrush. feisty game with alot of yellows two reds one player from each side and kilrush manager sent from field. Martin O Brien very card happy today and sending offs were for handbags stuff, harsh in my opinion

i had the misfortune to see the corofin v kilrush game today, very poor overall.pitch did not help things, lack of discipline on both sides also.corofin can forget bout another cup this year,as soon as they meet the avenues or newmarkets of this world it will be all over for them...i understand that these two play in the first div and are going for promotion by all accounts........god help us all!!!!!!:(

I wouldn't make a judgement based on one game. This isn't the first cup game over the last couple of years we had to slog it out to get a victory. I know yesterdays game was very poor but a win is a win.

Agreed. Give the lower divisions a break. I didnt see the game but both teams gave it a go in very difficult conditions when most premier teams didnt play at all. There are plenty of good games in the first division. Ive seen plenty of terrible ones in the premier too so dont judge a whole division based on one game in poor conditions.

Have to agree with you as well mlf. I've seen enough scrappy Premier games also this year to back you up on that one. I don't think its just the conditions however as the standard overall seems to be going backwards from a few years ago or maybe its just age, (mine).

When are the evening games back on? Is it next week or the week after. How are teams fixed for players working away and students at college and who will be most affected?

I think that it will be early April. it's a good point about midweek fixtures because it is unlikely that any team will have their strongest squad available for mid week games.
It could give some teams the edge in the fight for honours / relegation if they come across a team hampered by players working or in college.
Playing 3 games a week is a possibility in April and squad size / rotation could be a big factor.
Avenue / Lifford and Newmarket seem to have big squads but below them it's the strength of the squad that may keep teams up or send them down.

Mid-Week games are due to start in the 1st week of April according to a reliable source.
Most teams will be affected by work/College commitments, not to mention having to try and play 2 or maybe 3 games in a week, injuries, tired limbs etc but these wont come into play if teams are winning and fighting for honours they only seem to affect you when you are struggling to stay up.

Rineanna 1-0 Newmarket... Few of Newmarkets big name players left on the bench I hear. Jocks header was the goal.
Bunratty 2-2 Avenue (Rats win 4-2 on penalties)... Rats led 2-0 but let Avenue back in. Held on for Penalties and got the result.

Is this weekend the Clare leagues version of grand slam sunday!! It will make great viewing anyway. our game against newmarket will be a cracker. although Newmarket are where they are on merit i think we have the better team but who knows on the day anything can happen.

While there is no doubt that there is very little between the teams in terms of points i think avenue will have too much for the men in red.it is quite clear that Avenue need a win as anything less will dent their hopes of winning their title.while we will be none the wiser as to who will win the league after sunday we will know who has the greater chance

Predictions for the weekend
Avenue United A V Newmarket Celtic A ( draw ) Big game for the 2 teams. I saw most of the Bunratty game last weekend and Avenue only seemed to get going after they were 2 nil down. Both teams looked impressive but Avenue look strong in most positions. Newmarket will be looking to bounce back after losing last week so it's set up to be a cracking match.
Bridge Celtic A V Moher Celtic A ( Home win ) 2 teams surprisingly struggling this year. A draw is not much good to either team and I expect home advantage to work in Bridge's favour.
Burren United V Newtown A ( Away win ) Burren have moved up the table with 2 good wins and another win at home might see them with a great chance of survival. Newtown should be too strong for them though.
Bunratty A V Kildysart Celtic ( Home win ) Bunratty should win this. Played well last week and should carry that form forward to sunday. Kildysart look like they are doomed.
Rinnanna Rovers V Lifford A ( Draw ) Great result last week for Rineanna and home advantage is the key to their survival hopes. A win would be a massive 3 points for them but Lifford are going for the double and might fancy their chances of catching the teams above them with a result this weekend.

Youths League Playoff abandoned 15 mins into the game. An absolute joke, ref had no interest whatsover in reffin this match. Lifford's pitch was in great condition and wasn't even cuttin up any bit. ref out with his umbrella before the strange 10.30 kick-off time(put in place to facilitate the moher players who were goin playin with the clare minor footballers at 3pm) in the drizzlin rain sayin the game will go ahead but if theres a heavy shower its off. and so came a heavy 90 seconds rain and he blows it up.sun out for a few hours around 12.crazy stuff, one newmarket player stayed to play this game instead of goin to Utd Villa game which had cost him a fair few euro

CDSL meeting should be interesting tonight. The decision on the reserve lg will have to be made soon. It was kind of fobbed off at the last meeting despite 2 clubs there eager to debate it.
Anyone any thoughts on the proposal from the lg. I'm not sure will delegates be asked to vote for or against it tonight or will the lg just tell us what decision they have come to.
Draw for the cup quarter finals to be made too. Will the premier teams clash as has been the norm so far this year. 4 teams from outside the Premier in the last 4.

Would be against the reserve league so much so that it is possible that we will form a break away club which we dont want to do but the squad want to play competitive soccer not just a glorified friendly league. What is Bunratty's stance on it as ye also have a B team?

Bunratty as a club need to know the structure proposed before making a decision. Nobody seems to know the precise details of whats proposed.
From what I know I personally do not see the benefits of a reserve lg.
It may not matter what clubs think if the lg go and make a decision. Its not necessarily a delegate decision.
Wexford ran a reserve lg a few years back and its was disbanded. I could see the same happening in Clare and for us that means losing players to the Limerick Lg.

I think the clare league would be better off concentrating on more important issues like a change to summer soccer rather than wasting time over a proposal where they are going to destroy some good B teams whose players train every week in order to tog out on a sunday and have a laugh and a few pints afterwards and not just so they can be primarily a feeder for their clubs A team. I mean under the current system if a player is doing well for a clubs b team then he can play some games for the a team. So why all the fuss??
The clare league need to make the change to summer soccer once and for all. The league will be run off on time and then clubs can concentrate on fai's and munster competitions for the winter as the chairman has stated this is where clubs should be making their mark. They should not be worried how Gaa clubs will react. Its none of their business. The GAA in clare would not think twice about soccer in clare if the shoe was on the other foot..
