Yes you are rght, but once Newmarket moved into their new pitch I think it was something like 7 wins on the bounce, that must say something.
Yep it says the novelty of having a flat pitch with grass on it inspired them to victory. :D
And for all their struggling they only finished 3 points behind Newtown, this must also tell you something.
yep it tells me that newtown finished 3 points ahead of them:p

I have edited my post but I still say that I would be as slow as Jay and no not many got passed him last year, but its hard when he is defending on the 6 yard line with the other 2 old codgers standing either side of him.:p

99 years of combined experience can compensate for this perceived lack of pace that you speak of. This tinternet is making me tired, must get my cardigan, slippers , pipe and have a chat about the good old days when men where men and a pint was 80 pence, fags were 70p.......zzzzzzzzzz:D

Any results from the first round of games?
Lifford-Newmarket postponed Friday night due to Lifford having an Under 21 game today. Fixed now for tomorrow night causing a complete reshuffle of the mid-week fixtures as well as compromising lads working shifts/going on holidays. Bit of a joke that the Ennis men didn't realise their game was Sunday, looks like Clare League accomodating them at the expense of other teams. What are the thoughts on this?

Any reports from Yesterday's games?
Both high scoring games, good start for Avenue.
As for Newmarket V Lifford what time is this match on this evening.
Anyone from Lifford confirm if this was the case? Did they win their Under 21 match

Bridge Celtic led 0-3 after 25 mins. Scales scored a penalty before half time to make it 1-3. Richie Lillis got it to 2-3 and Brian Keane got the equalizer with just over 10 mins to go.

MATCH IS ON THIS EVENING AT 1830 IN NEWMARKET..
AS FOR LIFFORD..AFTER ADVISING THE CLARE LEAGUE THAT THEY ONLY FOUND OUT ON FRI THAT THEY HAD AN U21 GAME ON SUNDAY (WHICH IS AMAZING THAT THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION ONLY NOTIFY CLUBS 2 DAYS BEFORE THAT THEY HAVE A MATCH IN A NATIONAL COMPETITION!!) THEY THEN FAILED TO TURN UP FOR THIS EIRCOM LEAGUE MATCH AS THEY COULDNT FIELD A TEAM.....
THIS LEADS ME TO ASK A NUMBER OF QUESTIONS..1> ARE THE CLARE LEAGUE GOING TO BOW TO PRESSURE EVERY WEEK THAT A LIFFORD LEAGUE MATCH CLASHES WITH AN EIRCOM U21 MATCH AND EVERY OTHER TEAM IN THE CLARE LEAGUE SUFFERS BECAUSE OF IT?
2> WHY DIDNT THE CLARE LEAGUE JUST TELL LIFFORD LIKE THEY WOULD ANY OTHER CLUB TO CALL UP THEIR B TEAM PLAYERS OR YOUTHS?
LIFFORD SHOULD BE SERIOUSLY SANCTIONED FOR THEIR INABILITY TO FIELD TEAMS IN A NATIONAL COMPETITION NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT THE TELL THE CLARE LEAGUE THAT THEY ONLY FIND OUT 2 DAYS BEFORE THAT THEY HAVE A MATCH. TOTAL BULLS**T FROM THEM.

Saw the first hour of this game and then had to leave but was shocked when heard the final result. When I left it was 2 each with Newtown looking the more likely to win it. Didn't look like any of the old heads were there a very young team. No leaders at the back for newtown looked very suspect from set plays. Avenue didn't impress me too much either. I know it's only 1st game of the season but none of the teams on show yesterday looked like pushing for a league. Who made Newtown favourites other than yourself by the way:confused: Surely Bridge Celtic are fav with Moher and Avenue close by after last season.

Newtown had about 10 players missing yesterday due to holidays and weekends away that were arranged well in advance of the fixtures being published. Players missing included Noel Donnellan, Jason Stretton, Glen Coyle,Ryan Kelly, Kieran Kissane, Jamie Cullen, Greg Deegan, Eamon o Neil.
The league absolutely refused to call off the match and yet only two games went ahead yesterday.

Why did Lifford not request a free if they had a clashing u21 match.THey cant have not known about it??Im all for supporting their U21 venture but not if they cant organise themselves to avoid fixture clashes. The fact that they didnt field in the u21 is a different matter altogether.
If clubs are not happy with this they should get their delegates to raise the matter at the next meeting and demand a vote.If it is carried then the committee have to enforce it.

Are you joiking? What you outline there is far too logical, practical and fair.
The league is far too busy suiting the GAA based clubs and shows absolutely no support for genuine football clubs whose priority is football first and not helping these lame ducks to bring down the overall standard in the county.

Was at the Bunratty Bridge celtic game. Tough uncomprimising game, no quarter asked or given, Bunratty 3-0 down despite playing all the football, Bunratty owned the second half and deservedly claimed a point.
I was very impressed with Bunratty, they play good football and when the going got rough they stood up to bridge celtic.
16/1 is a good bet, Bunratty were down 6/7 players yesterday and the players deputising looked comfortable enough.

finally somebody with a educated post.
it seems very easy that some people on this site are very quick to throw untrue accusations at both lifford and Michael Lydon.
Lifford are an ambitious club and want better things both for its members and for clare soccer. at the moment there is a period of transition in the management of the u-21's so the setup is not as good as last year.
our club has requested at most 3 matches off in the last 5 years.
i'm not sure where all the agro is coming from on this issue..... but seriously some guys on this thread would want to take a look at themselves and think before they post

fair play to lifford for entering a 21's team..it's good to see a clare team at that level..
but do you think its fair newmarket had to play 2nite cause lifford couldn't field a team yesterday..newmarket were only told at 4pm on saturday...[/QUOTE]
No i dont think it's fair . I think it would have been ideal if newtown were given the sunday they wanted off and newmarket played avenue.
but i don't make these choices. on 1 hand i commend the clare league for been flexible with lifford and on the other i pull my hair out because they don't use common sense for the newtown situation

I heard Eduardo (Eddie) formally of Park has asked to sign for Newtown..more depth added to the squad makes you think, when you can only start 11 players there are going to be unhappy subs. May become a problem for Newtown in the near future. Its a nice problem to have until the players not starting grow impatient.. As for claiming that Park are Newtown rejects..Thats absolute rubbish talk! Does this mean that the subs down at Newtown now are future rejects?
Rejects , thats a bit harsh. I think you are stirring:p
