Yeah! What in the invisible stand?! How could it possibly hold 8,500 ppl?!!!
1997 Cup semi against Shels, highest attendance recorded at the venue, just under the figure I gave you.

2791 or 3791 at Pats v Rovers. Couldn't hear the announcer right.
Considering the early kickoff, even the lower of those figures would be fair going, but I'd say 3791 is the right one. Rovers looked absolutely rammed into their end of the stand, talking to a Hooped mate afterwards he said it was downright dangerous.

I sat in the middle just behind Roddy's dug out and there was still the very odd empty seat. No crushing for sure. Dunno about the rest of the stand towards the Shed. I did notice as I was coming in people standing at the back of the Rovers end and it looking awfully uncomfortable. Surely the Stand has so many seats and therefore only so many tickets? How many seats are there?

The stand has around 2,000 seats in it i think... half was for rovers so thats 1,000 seats for each set of fans... thats not enough... 2791 people were at the game!!!

The stand only has seating for 1800. At a guess I'd say there was at least 300 more than that in it last night

1,800 was the guesstimate for the crowd at Drogheda v Shels given in the live updates.
There was defo more than that. Probably our best crowd of the season so far. About 2,500 I'd say. Also biggest Shels crowd seen in United Park for some time. There was no gaps in the away terrace, usually there are with Shels

If the tiniest clubs there can publish official attendances, why do we have to try to guess some of the ones here?
isthmian (about division 11) teams average attendances that EL teams would be happy with

I would've said closer to 4,000. The away terrace was full (first time we've done that in ages) and under the roof of the home terrace was packed.

Drogheda's capacity is smaller than it looks though. Is that you anto_eile's on about? ;)
Derry-Waterford (last week) apparently 1921.
About 900 at Harps-UCD.
Have 600 and 900 for the Galway game - which one is better? Will put in the 600 for the moment.

last years cup semi replay with longford had around 3500, you could probably squeeze 200 or 300 more, but that would be absolute max. the terrace steps are quite wide, and not steep - it makes the crowd look bigger than it actually is.
wasn't at fridays game, but if stand, away terrace and home terrace under the roof were packed your probably talking anywhere from 2200 to 2600, i'd be very surprised if there was any more than that

Dublin City v. Kilkenny
Impossible to post a figure, as no-one actually attended this game.
Nah, it was around 100. Eeriest atmosphere I've ever witnessed at a football match. On one occasion in the second half, Pat Scully was being treated for a (non-existent) injury and the ground was completely silent. Not a word was spoken on or off the pitch for fully 90 seconds. Then Scully rose to his feet and started whingeing to the ref about something or other, which naturally resulted in a volley of abuse from the stand.

When you were in Tolka the crescendo of noise and emotion from the baying masses got so highly charged, I sometimes had to seek refuge in the toilets until my pulse dropped..........

Okay, I admit its a cheap shot.
I can only comment on my experience as a Derry City fan attending both our games against you in Tolka and I counted as best I could the attendance at one of the games and I'm fairly sure it was below 200, at least 40 of whom were from Derry.
My point was that complaining about a drop in crowds from 250-100 odd is akin to re-arranging the deckchairs on the Titanic.
Only my point of view and I'm open to being proved wrong.

The salient comparison is with our last season in the First Division. Last time we played Kilkenny at home (Whitehall) the crowd numbered around 250. And since a home game against Kilkenny is essentially the lowest unit of currency for any team in the league, such a precipitous drop in the attendance for this fixture is an obvious cause for concern.

First of all, it wasn't a full house, it was majority full alright, but not a full house, we get pretty big crowds for derby games and when you lot come!

The official capacity of Tolka is probably more then any other ground in the league so to use the example of a ' Full House ' is very unfair.
you would be better off talking in terms of how many were at these games

If capcity is close to 11k does "majority full" mean 51%?
I'm not going to harp on about for ever but i'd be surprised if shels have had over 5k for any dublin derby in recent years.
I'd guess shels core support is 2k & able to increase to 3k for last game of the season in 2004.

Then you obviously haven't been paying close attention. The Shels Bohs title decider had more people than the capacity of Turners Cross, the majority would be around or over the 5k mark.

Pete can you stop going on and ON and ON about this ??
Shels have poor crowds and YES Shels people know we have poor crowds but why cant you go look at the average attendance list and see what crowds we get
You go on about this many and that many and highest and lowest and bla bla bla !! The figures are there for you to see. I would think you are hardly ever in tolka outside of a Cork game so where do you get these ideas from?
Yourself and about another 10 posters on here are always on about the low figures. At least if you want to moan then use the correct (or best guessed) numbers.
Slash/ED
18/05/2005, 1:01 PM
I wouldn't mind but our crowds are pretty much second only to Cork. Last year we got the third highest crowds, a tiny number seperating us and Bohs, Bohs crowds have since gone down and ours up so we'll probably finish second, yet it's always us they harp on about. Basically I figured out along time ago that it's all they have, they can't mention the football side of things to get their petty digs in so they have to go for this. It's fairly pathetic really.
Pete can you stop going on and ON and ON about this ??
I rarely comment on shels crowds.
Still doesn't change fact shels can only top 3k if subsidies with away support from dublin rivals.

There was somewhere around 9000 in Tolka for a Shels-Pats cup quarter-final match a few years back, when the capacity was smaller cos the Subbuteo Stand hadn't been built yet. Think it was 1999, that'd make it recent. As far as I can remember, it was the first replay, we played them about four times in a fortnight (cup, replay, league, second replay) so it was all a bit of a blur.
Interesting thread in the cork forum, where Lennox gives the average attendance for Cork games at 3000, and that they'll be publishing attendance figures from now on...

Capacity is 6,700 - didn't know that. I know the actual capacity is higher than the official one, but it kind of knocks on the head the 9000 for the Bohs match at the end of last season! And that was me deliberately putting in one of the more conservative guesstimates!
Only official attendance we got for Cork was 6,224 v. Bray, when 7000 minimum was mentioned here...think the Cork figures are going to take a bit of a dip! I blame teams going down and playing for the draw personally! :p
