Cracking goal and Reid looks like a man with a new lease on life.

At this point, that is after the debacle which was the Euros and with Reid having learned his lesson if indeed there was one to be learned, why doesn't Trap bury the hatchet? It could only beneift the Irish team. And for that matter what about Stephen Ireland. An awful lot of talent to be available to a manager and leave on the bench.

Reid might have a way to go yet before making a case - a month of good form doesn't erase a couple of years in the wilderness.

Ireland would have to be interested, fit and playing well to be considered. He's zero for three in that regard. His form was no more than ok for Villa and, more importantly, I think it sends out all the wrong signals to people like McClean, Brady, Carruthers etc that you can be talented and expect the national manager to come knocking, cap in hand.

Yip. I'd have him in the squad but you're right, a month of good form is not enough.
He needs to have a cracking season, injury free, for calls for his inclusion to be taken seriously.

When Trap confused Wilson for another misbehaving squad member, I think I recall he mentioned that an apology to Trap and the squad would be required before the mystery player would be considered again. It's likely that the player with whom Trap had confused Wilson was Reid.

From what I heard about the incident, and I know people close to Reid, it is something neither will apologise about.
And also, it sounds like there was a bit lost in translation with the incident.
SO I think it could be safe to say, as long as Trap is involved, we won't be seeing Reidy pull on the green jersey

Neither Reid nor Trap? Can you reveal any more? Does Reid expect an apology from Trap?

No not at all at this stage.
Last I spoke to my source about it was a couple of years ago.
But it was very much Trap losing the rag in Italian and neither believing they were in the wrong.

Any time from now on that anyone mentions or promotes the idea of Stephen Ireland in a green shirt, I'm re-posting this.

"National teams don't interest me. I have more to do than go off for three days to play Andorra. And when you are Irish, you are well aware you'll never win the World Cup.

"I feel nothing for the team. I absolutely don't feel guilty when they lose and, when they win, at no time do I think I could have been there.

"Even if Ireland had qualified for the World Cup, I wouldn't have gone. People call for my return, but I have only played five times for them. The national team and me are ancient history."

I get a touch of the "lady doth protest too much" from Ireland's comments about the national team. I think he's gone a bit out of his way to show he doesn't care because he's still hurt by the way he thinks he was treated. He's a delicate little flower.

Quotes taken from an article he strenuously distanced himself from including threatening legal action through his club and going live on Irish radio to discuss and clear up.

If people are willing to give him another go after the grannygate scenario I don't think the "quotes" above will change their mind.

Are you suggesting France Football concocted the quotes attributed to Ireland? Is that what Ireland was suggesting himself?

Andy Reid interview just on 5 Live. I happened to be awake at 7.30am and Mark Pougatch said it was worth listening to. Not really - didn't touch on his international career. Was just about three minutes long, with Reid talking about how he feels he's fitter than ever before chat swung into Reid's admiration of Oscar Wilde and Brendan Behan.

Hopefully he's really learnt about the importance of being earnest in his fitness efforts and will get back in favour with the quare fellow in charge of the national team..

Andy talked about his fitness levels never being better than now (at the age of 30) and that he had a good pre-season. A post interview jibe was added by a studio guest (whatshisname who managed Spurs on odd occasions), 'if only Andy had taken his fitness so serious when he had a great chance after he was signed by Spurs'.

"'He has been terrific all season' - Nottingham Forest manager Sean O'Driscoll hails Andy Reid": http://www.goal.com/en-ie/news/3942/ireland/2012/12/11/3594558/he-has-been-terrific-all-season-nottingham-forest-manager

"He has been terrific all season," he said. "Andy is a difficult player to pin down because he doesn’t play really as a wide man and he’s not really a central midfielder.

"As people get older, they get more mature. He has not had a bad career, that's for sure," added O'Driscoll. "But he still wants to achieve something at Forest. He lost a lot of weight in the summer. He trains really well."

He continued: "When he wasn't in the team last season, I still always thought to myself that he was one of the better players. It was just a case of trying to get him into the team."

"He is reliable, he is a good bloke in the dressing-room and he always has an opinion. You can talk to him. He is captain material," added the Forest boss.

When he wasn't in the team last season, I still always thought to myself that he was one of the better players.

The name sounded familiar enough but that quote convinced me Mr. O'Driscoll had to be Irish. I'll bet he's posted in many an Andy Reid thread in his time too.

I only saw the first 20 mins of the second half of Forest v Leeds today and Reid looked class as a wide left midfielder. His passing was good, he was always available to receive the ball and looked comfortable receiving it in tight situations. Great awareness. He put in some top quality deliveries from right sided corners. One Forest attack came from a really good Reid tackle from which he developed a great move afterwards.

He might have been muck in the other 70 mins but on basis of what I saw I'd have him in the squad any day of the week.

Well you may have your chance Stutts if you decide to apply for the vacant Notts Forest job. O'Driscoll sacked after the 4-2 win and in great position to push for promotion spots. Bizarro.

tricky_colour
27/12/2012, 4:30 PM
The sacking seem a bit harsh but I think they had just dropped off the pace a little, 9 points off automatic promotion
was probably too far short of expectation. Inconsistency seems to be the problem. 'Big money' signing Simon Cox
started on the bench. The owners have apparently spoken to a "Premier League manager", not sure who that would be.
But.... a bit of googling brings up some interesting names...Roberto Di Matteo and our old mate Roy Keane :)

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/nottingham-forest/9766755/Roberto-Di-Matteo-and-Roy-Keane-in-frame-after-Nottingham-Forest-axe-manager-Sean-ODriscoll.html

It would be a bit of a drop in class for Di Matteo but possibly an ideal job for Keane, I think he woudl bring back some consistency.
Whether it woudl be good or bad consistency is an entirely different matter.

Having said that Alex Mcleish is odds on favourite (6-1 on)

The Forest fans seem to have and are not too happy about his appointment.

Keane was spotted at the Forest Leeds match so he must have been interested.

One Forest fans describes the appointment as an accident waiting to happen, he may well be right.

He has a tough first match against 4th placed Palace tomorrow.

He has a tough first match against 4th placed Palace tomorrow. He will be right. McLeish has done nothing since he got Birmingham promoted. He got them relegated again and somehow got the Villa job and fupped them up.

He will fupp this up too and next summer Forest will be looking for a new manager.

Well Forest got off to the disaster waiting to happen start and went a goal down early one,
Fortunately slimmed down superhero Andy Reid came to McLeish's rescue on the stroke of
half-time with a strike from 25 yards out if the man on the radio is to be believed.

At that rate they could interview every player who played for Sunderland and ask for a comment and make a news story out of it if they don't comment. Bizarre journalism. In fact it's not even Andy who makes no comment. It's a family member!

Journalist in taxi: "Hey, you're Andy Reid's dad"
Driver: "That's right"
J: "What does he make of di Canio being appointed at Sunderland"
D: "not much"
J: "Great, thanks"

(in case you don't know, Andy's dad does drive a taxi in Dublin)
