well pats are through to the next round. When is the draw, and what kind of opposition will they be facing?
I believe that is now 1.499 co-efficient points now.

Childish post, to actually think you are in with a chance of beating Kiev is in itself laughable after being happy to to lose by goal at home.I never said we'd beat Kiev, nor do I expect us to. Nor was I happy to be beaten by them.
I said that after July there would still be 2 Irish teams in Europe. And there are. Just proving you wrong.
Do keep up.

Rosenborg BK Nor 35.400
Manchester City Eng 30.996
FC København Den 23.748
Brøndby IF Den 18.748
Aston Villa Eng 24.996
Viking Stavanger Nor 12.400
Queen of the South Sco 11.013
AA Gent Bel 8.810
IF Elfsborg Swe 8.518
Lillestrøm SK Nor 7.400
They are teams Pats could get. Fingers crossed for Queen of the South and do a Gretna on them. Most teams will probably be hoping for Pats as they are the lowest ranked of the teams in the draw.

The final list isn't set yet, as there is an odd amount of teams in our region and the central. ONe team will have to move.
Some very tough prospects in there. Rosenberg being the worst in most areas (expensive to get to, club won't make money, likely to be thrashed)/ QOTS being probably the best we could hope for. Draw complicated by 2 Danish sides being seeded, and 2 unseeded. 1 Swedish team seeded, 2 unseeded. I'm going to say Copenhagen

One of the Central-East teams could be placed in the section, on a previous list it was Hertha.

The draw decides home & away
oh and the Irish co-eff this year is 1.5, not 1.499 (could be the difference)
Draw groups decided. Pats will get one of Aston Villa, Stade Rennais, Copenhagn, Brondby or Elfsborg
Pretty tough oppenents all round

Yeah very tough draw. Reasonable chance against Brondby or Elfsborg (if drawn away first) but otherwise chances of advancing look very slim. I suppose drawing Aston Villa would be preferable - money-earner.

Please NOT Aston Villa anyway - I do not want to have to listen to RTE & the media patronising Pats while really supporting the foreign team.
It'd be interesting to have a go at Swedish opposition again, but, there is no such thing as an easy draw in those 5.

I'm a villa fan and no - dont want ye to get Pats, get one of the swedish teams - have a chance to progress then.
Cork are a disgrace in Europe  - what the hell is going on there! ppl were on here complaining about Drogs the last night! no offence but they were brillant compare to Cork last night and Drogs was playing better opposition!

Lads,
Bosnia - Herzegovina are gone ahead of us in the Co-efficient but more importantly they still have 3 teams in the competition. Also Hungary who are just one win behind us also have 3 teams left in the competition so they will get by us too you see.
cheers Cork - great showing last night  hope Drogs overtake ye in the league and get into the UEFA cup next! - at least they put up a fight! :o

I can't help but be a little cheesed off by all the negativity floating around.
Reading some of the posts, you'd think that some of you got pleasure by seeing Cork go out and Drogheda beaten the other night. Gives you something to bitch about.
Sure, Cork's result was lousy and there's no excuse for it , but don't go blaming the league or summer football or Delaney for it. The answer is closer to home, imo.
It's time all the cynics got off their high horses and be a little more supportive and constructive in their comments and critism.
By the way, well done Pat's, that poster campaign must have worked a treat.
Best of luck in the next round.

happens every year. One club gets blamed for everything. Simple fact is we are we are in the co-eff table for a reason. Cork got well beaten by one of the seeds. As we did last year.
EDIT; actually Derry were seeded last year and still lost. Lets blame them for last year instead! :D

I still can't get over the fact that the strongest critics are frequently from fans of clubs who get into Europe once in every couple of generations.

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure the list at the end of one (European) season is the basis for everything (access and seeding) the following season. So how we do at the end of next year (2009/10 - currently 27th) will determine where we start the following one (2010/11).
Just checked it out and I was a year out. The current access list (season 08/09) was sent out from Uefa to the individual associations on the 25th of September 2007. The country rankings were included in this so the most up to date ranking available would have been the ranking after season 06/07. It still means that the access list and the seeding list are effectively one year separated though because the seedings are taken from the 07/08 season.
Looks like you're right about the league not really knowing how many European spots they'll have when it kicks off though.

I know its a big if, but if Drogheda did manage to get past Kiev, and rangers lost out to Kaunas Drogs could draw them as Kaunas would take Rangers seed. What a chance that would be to get into the Champions league proper. I think its gonna take freak results like that for an Irish club to get into the Champions league

Ouch
But, in a few seasons, you could be a lot more confident/realistic using that 'WHEN'
I suppose all i'm saying is, dont knock it - we are getting better - it takes time.

That best possible outcome for Pats, they have a chance if they play their best football.
Very do-able. I like that the 2nd leg is in Dublin. Borås is quite close to Gothenburg, reminds me of 2 years ago.
Best of luck Pats.

Helsingborgs hammered Drogheda and Elfsborg are above them on the table.
Agreed that its the best draw for Pats but its not easy. Swedish football is a notch above Irish football and this side seem to be a lot better than the side Derry played

Elfsborg are 2nd in league and beat Hibs easily 2-0 away from home.
I reckon they are better than Odense and look how that turned out for Pats.
Best of luck anyway, i give them 1 in 10 chance of going through.

They won't be better than Odense. And for their result v Hibs is cancelled by barely beating Riga, who Bohs should've beaten

OK, Here's a quick summary of the draw for the teams from the countries around us in the coefficient table.
Metalurgs (Lat) V FC Vaslui (Rom)
Suduva Marijampole (Lit) V Salzburg (Aus)
Poznan (Pol) V Grasshoppers (Swi)
Warsaw (Pol) V FK Moscow (Rus)
Gyor (Hun) V Stuttgart (Ger)
Debrecen (Hun) V Young Boys (Swi)
Brijeg (Bos) V Besiktas (Tur)
Mostar (Bos) V Braga (Por)
Ljubljana (Slo) V Hertha Berlin (Ger)
They look like fairly difficult draws for most of the teams so fingers crossed that they don't pick up any results. I don't know anything about Vaslui, but hopefully they'll be a similar standard to the Bucharest teams.

Just in general terms mind.
This is the Central/East draw and I believe Suduva (Lithuania) and Metalurgs (Latvia) got the short straw by been sent to this region for seeding/balance purposes. I think Mittel Europe are very good at being Mid-table.
(The resort town of Koper didn't make it. Liberac play Zilina of Slovakia (SVK))
Good draw for Pats given the alternatives.
Elfsborg are favourites but Pats have a chance. The league has good track record against Swedes in recent years but I am sure the Swedes will be as arrogant as always.

Definitely agree with you on the short straw point.
By the way, to put the UEFA cup progress into perspective, of 51 ties in Europe so far this year the unseeded team has only knocked out the seeded team on 4 occasions.

yeah this proves the importance of seeding, so well done to St Pats.
by the way Bigmac just wondering what would the most co effieicents any team ever got in one season? hard to answer, but i reckon St Petersburg would have picked up a huge amount from last seasons run, considering they went through something like 7 rounds and won the final

its the truth. hibs are brutal and aparently will struggle this season. its the best draw we could have hoped for but not that confident of getting throu.
