If that's what happened at all.... But you're right it makes no sense

My current conspiracy theory is that the previous owners thought that the fans wouldn't approve of a new owner who didn't have a significant cash reserve coming in board. To work around that they played the poor card and said to Hoban we cannot fulfill your contract and he went public with that spinning long term Dundalk fans into a frenzy. This cleared the way for literally any other owner to come on board with little to no resistance in spite of the fact they have no real cash reserves to pump up the playing budget for next year

Ollie is actually a Worzel Gummidge lookalike!

The latest on the rumour mill as per Dan McDonnell on Twitter is, Andrew Quinn is on his way to Drogheda, Dundalk have made an offer for Evan Weir of Drogs, Bohs and Waterford are competing for Rob Cornwall, while Shels are in for John Martin of Dundalk and John O’Sullivan of Bohs (which Bohs fans will be genuinely over the moon with)

Heard last night that we are linked with Dean George and a return for Enda Curran from Treaty Utd.

According to Dan McDonnell, Shels are in for John Martin and more perplexing, John O'Sullivan for some reason. Andrew Quinn is going back to Drogheda who are trying to hold onto Evan Weir. Dundalk want to sign him. Bohs & Waterford both want Rob Cornwall unsurprisingly.

Its no surprise that a local paper hasn't got Walt Whitman writing a column. The readership wouldn't want it anyway. Id file that piece under paper doesn't refuse ink.

Extratime.ie reporting that O'Sullivan to Shels is happening as he has negotiated early termination of his Bohs contract. Puzzler of a signing as he has done absolutely nothing at Bohs in 1.5 seasons. While I like Gannon and Ward I'm not sure about Duff's shift to 30+ Y.O. signings who all made very few starts last season if these guys are being signed with an intention to be starting XI players

At least with Gannon the coaching staff know a bit about him and he has vast experience in the league so can be a bit of a mentor in the dressing room. John O'Sullivan is just a strange signing if it goes through. Relatively new to the league and limited game time for the last year and a bit due to injury and just not being fit enough/good enough. I'm sure his signing interview with Shels will be all bluster of I'm here to prove myself and play every week but that was said at the start of this season at Bohs and ultimately nothing changed. Glad to see the back of him tbh as he was one of the worst signings Long ever made and there were some stinkers in there!

Huddersfield is where Ronan Teahan is having a trial - he's only just turned 19, so would benefit from another season in the League before making a long-term move, but certainly couldn't begrudge him the opportunity if an offer is made.

Pats and Bohs is the chat about Keeley, I'd heard that we'd spoken to him weeks ago but all went quiet until the last couple of days. Would love to get him in as himself and Redmond sounds formidable to say the least, but not sure how optimistic I am about it. Wouldn't be surprised if he ended up across the water considering Notts County had bids turned down in the summer.

Ben McCormack linked with a move to Dundalk again this year. Can see it going through this time given his lack of minutes. He only started 8 games this year, with the only start he’s had since July being a dead rubber against Derry in the last game of the season. He’s got ability on the ball but work rate off the ball and end product in the final third let him down too much to be relied upon as a regular starter at a top 3 club. If he can improve those areas of his game he'll be a fine player wherever he’s playing

Was calling for him to play more in seasons gone by but he really hasn't kicked on as you'd have hoped. This year in particular his minutes dropped off a cliff and we now have Forrester, Kavanagh and Leavy that can play in his position, none of whom he has shown he is or will be better than so it makes sense that he moves on really. Could be a good signing for another side though, O'Donnell obviously fancies him. There's definitely ability there anyway, just a matter of actually getting it consistently out of him.

Harry Brockbank, Thijs Timmermans and Serge Atakayi all confirmed to have left the club. Serge scored the winner for us in Sofia and had a successful half season for us in 2022. Didn't get going at all for us this season and went on loan to Waterford where I don't think he did very much. Timmermans was a reasonable midfielder but wasn't good enough to get ahead of Lennon, Forrester, Murphy and Leavy. Brockbank wasn't great either at right back or centre back. He's no loss really.

With regards to the McCormack to Dundalk rumours it's probably time for him to leave as he doesn't look like getting a regular starting place for us at this stage. At his best he's a very good player with a great setpiece delivery but he never really kicked on enough to nail down his place in the first 11. There was questions with regards to his workrate and his performance levels could be erratic. Still with regular gametime he could be a very good signing for Dundalk although I'd have thought somewhere like Drogheda might suit him better. Dundalk have a strongish midfield when they're all fit.

Pity about Serge there is a player in there but never pushed on after a good start at the club last season. I’d say McCormack will move on , not sure Daly rates him. I’d say he could improve with regular football.

Frantz Pierrot signs for Drogheda from Athlone. Potentially a good signing. Big, strong, and can finish. Work rate probably the only thing lets him down, from what I saw of him, but potentially the difference in Drogheda getting sucked into a relegation fight.

Big signing for them that is. One of the papers was linking him with Bohs a few weeks ago and I’d have thought he’d be a decent replacement for Afolabi if he goes given the lack of available strikers with LOI experience

Any fee mentioned as I'm sure Valeo FCwill be looking for a returnon their investment.

During last transfer window Reading were in for him but it didn't go through possibly due to personal terms.

No idea. He’s 24 so they wouldn’t be due any compensation fee, meaning if he was out of contract there’d be no fee but I’ve no info on what his contract was. On the Reading thing, I’d imagine that was down to a work permit which are very difficult to get in the UK these days outside of international level players, even more so for players from nations low in the fifa rankings like Haiti

This is fair, Dundalk absolutely no longer top 3 merchants so a move like this would be good for both player and club, looking like it will go through.

Def a live wire and has potential, scored a bag full for Athlone, but as has been seen many times in the past, different story up against mainly part time FD defenders v mostly full time PD quality.

Axel Sjoberg has resigned for another season. When he played he was a good right back and he's definitely a good player. But he was injured for large chunks of the season and got injured against Dundalk in September on his comeback match after getting injured against the same opposition in May. Seems to have hamstrings made of glass I think.

He had surgery after the September injury and hopefully that has sorted the issue. In his few appearances he looked like a very good attacking right back and while nobody can replace Sam Curtis this lad could do a decent job in that role.

Enjoyed this interview with Jon Daly about his struggles to sign players who have extra responsibilities in their private life. A fact that very few fans of clubs around the league ever seem to realise when complaining about the lack of experience their club sign.

Interesting that Daly himself is in the same position, with his family in Scotland. Not sure how sustainable that is long term, but on the other hand management is a precarious business, so you can understand the reluctance to uproot your family, when a run of say 5 or 6 defeats would have most managers in this league in severe danger of losing their job.

Who knows, that may well turn out to happen but he did sign a contract until the end of 2025 in May. Working away from his family isn’t a new thing to him either, he’s worked in Finland in 2020 and 2021 until coming to Pats for the last 2 seasons so he’s not had a prolonged spell at home in Scotland in a good few years now
