As it stands, 11 of the clubs have seen a rise in average attendances from last season, albeit in some cases, very marginal.

1,057 announced as the attendance in Tolka, seemed a bit high. More Pats fans than Shels fans.

Laughable. No more than 700 at the game I'd have thought

Shels crowd as teams came out. About 40/50 came out of bars after this

And a mere 25 days to our next home game.

25 days coming to the end of the season is absolutely screaming mismanagement in my book. We weren't far off that kind of gap between home games when the Euros were on. The FAI haven't a leg to stand on.

Drogs v Derry 486. I wonder was there ever a lower league crowd for a side in 2nd place & with a reasonable chance of finishing runners up ?

I'm not sure if we would have got over 2,000 if this was a home game (bottom of league, havent won at home for months), but I recall a QF match away to Finn Harps in 2002, there was just under 5,000 at it. I know Season tickets are not valid for cup games, but I cant help thinking the crowds at this seasons matches have been most disappointing all over the country.

Hopefully these will improve for the semi's, and the final.

Maybe it's because I'm a Galway United fan but this has been one of the worst League of Ireland seasons I remember, the title race has been non-existant, the relegation battle was gone once Monaghan pulled out. The First Division was always going to be a 3-horse race with Limerick coming out on top.
As a neutral there hasn't really been anything to get excited about - the cup should be different but I guess the general apathy has taken over.

In fairness, it was Finn Harps after all. Always bring out the sunshine supporters.

It's definitely just because you're a Galway fan.

I find this season very intriguing, it's not been of the highest standard, but the run in for the Premier is going to get very interesting yet. The run in for the First division is very tight too, don't expect Limerick to run away with anything.

And Dundalk aren't totally gone yet, at least they're better to watch than Galway last season.

For all of the rather poor quality and lack of variety, at least the First Division has a run-in worth talking about, which is more than a lot of people expected.

No but what I meant was that for only a handful of clubs has this season actually really had anything special. A lot of the Premier clubs have been in mid-table for virtually the whole season - Bohs, Shels, Bray, Cork and Derry. There are 4 clubs who have been in the title race but going by crowds it doesn't look as if anyone was jumping on the bandwagon at Pat's and Drogheda as it's looked from a long way out that Sligo were going to win the league.
At the other end UCD and Dundalk were in their own battle to avoid the playoff (Bray slipping in to it now) but when there's even a doubt over whether the playoff will happen it's hard too get too excited about it.

In Division 1 the top 3 have been away for the whole season - so outside of those the other teams have been playing out the season and presumably building for the future.

id say a season where 1/3rd of the league are in the running of the title for a large part of the season is pretty decent. Simiarly, to have three out of 8 teams (37.5%) in with a shout for the title with just a few weeks remaining is a fairly exciting season.

4 - Brian Laws could still yet guide his Shelbourne side to the title.

Have to say I'm delighted with our attendances this season given that 5th is the highest we've been all season and the highest we can realistically finish.

I think if we push on and can challenge for the top 3 next season the crowds should go up again.

I think for the league it would be fantastic to see Cork push for title honours next season.

With Cork, Shamrock Rovers, and Sligo all hitting attendances over 3000/4000 each game it can only make the game here healthier.

Imagine seeing regular crowds over 4000 in Turners Cross each week. That would be fantastic.

Good match with each side dominating in one half and getting pumelled in the other. Another atrocious Robbery Rogers performance in the middle.

I wouldn't expect a massive increase personally. If we've averaged 600+ this year I think somewhere in around 900ish might be as good as it gets in a first year up (an increase of 50% to be fair which is not to be sniffed at). Two factors which could impact on that figure will be how we do (obviously) and where we're playing. If we are back in the Market's Field we'd be higher I think, particularly in the first few games. At that point I think a lot of it would come down to results. If we were to stay up I could see bigger crowds, after all the years in the doldrums the club will have to prove to the general sporting public in the city that they're the real deal so to speak.

A lot depends on where we're playing and how we're playing!

I'd say you'll roughly be looking at the following:

1200-1500 games: Sligo, Shamrock, Cork.
800-1200 games: Bohs, Pats, Derry.
500-800 games: Bray, UCD.

Outside Shamrock and Sligo does anyone in the Premier bring crowds anymore?? Obviusly Cork would bring a lot to Limerick.

The big factor will be form. We can have all the top tier games we want, but if we're losing most of them the crowds will stop turning up. Just like Mons.

Exactly, if we can hit the ground running with good results the crowds will be strong. As usual though Irish sports fans are very very fickle. The Markets Field will have a big part to play in drawing the crowds also, if the club fail to deliver on that promise it will bring back a lot of negativity towards the club and crowds will deteriorate.
