Why? I'm playing devil's advocate in a sense. If Dundalk (somehow) escape relegation this year I'd hate to think of some other system that would relegate them. Likewise if they won the league (might as well dream awake as asleep) I'd be disgusted if they had to play off for the title. But I don't get the reason why we couldn't have 1 division with 20 clubs, top 8 play off for the title. Right now what we have is not working, how bad would an alternative be - christ, if economics get worse Dundalk might be 8th and get a run to the CL :-)

From 92-94, we had the Top 6 play-off to win the league and the Bottom 6 play-off to be relegated. The top 6 soon developed into a top 2 or 3, while the race to finish 7th was no motivation for those who were not in relegation trouble. It failed.

Only because the rules didn't have any tie-breaking rule in place for teams finishing level on points.

I wouldn't be in favour of a playoff to decide the league but it wouldn't be the worst idea to have one for the Europa League spot. 2 v 5 and 3 v 4 in one-off matches and highest placed qualifier having home advantage for final.

As I said, the league should be decided over how many games are in the regulation season. If you finish 5th as we did in 2007, you finish 5th. There should not be a reward for it, in normal circumstances.

Same as Extratime have given so I'll take that.

Incidentally, that's Corks worst crowd of the season by almost 300. Monday night obviously didn't suit a lot of people. Average has dipped under 3,000 for the first time this season.

Seemed to more than 3500 at Tallaght.

On the issue of an issue extended premier league it would be bad news for the better clubs since the shtie teams would remain that way and would push down crowds in the division anyway.

If you you want to rid of of the first division then do so but replace it with 12 or 14 team a Premier league established by election.

Tallaght Stadium is the toughest place to estimate a crowd, way too hard to see how many is in the stand that you're in, so any estimate is unlikely to be very accurate.

Definitely around the 5,000 mark. One of the biggest crowds this season. And I arrived just before kick off so got a good look at how full both stands were.

The clock recorded just over 5,200.
The east stand was full (2 to a seat in 2 sections) and the main stand was jam packed aswell. Sligo had a great crowd alsol.

Extratime report from the Rovers press box where there is a cement wall to each side of you so you can't see the crowd in your stand. I'm starting to think they only estimate what they actually see. 3,500 was right if they just counted the east stand across and the 2 sections they could see in front of them :)

They have to submit the official attendance the next day to the FAI. Everyone in the press box are given the attendance should they enquire..

Maybe they should just announce the official attendance 5-10 minutes before the end of the game? A nice gesture I always think to thank the fans for their support. Don't know why more clubs don't do it.

Edit: found this on extratime ''Longford Town 2 - 0 Mervue United
30' - Well we've done a quick count of the disappointing crowd here and the attendance is 241.''

''Longford Town 2 - 0 Mervue United
37' - We've spotted a few more here so there's 254 in attendance. Very poor but Longford's a GAA county and there are a number of championship games on this evening.''

We say that pretty much every week, "another poor crowd" is commonly said around Finn Park these days. But jesus, someone saying 150 people would need their head examined. There was 150 people watching the under 19 team yesterday.
There was more than that sitting in the seats alone.

These Monday night games are killing us, seriously need to avoid these. Clubs find it hard to survive week to week with this craic.

And for all the noise the FAI make about RTE having exclusive access to footage for MNS, then then go and take about 50% of the viewership away from actually watching the damn thing by putting the games on a Monday night, stooopid or what !!!
